At Dem retreat, Biden slams divided GOP

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden jabbed Republicans Friday over factions within the GOP, while also rallying members of his caucus to "aggressively push" the Democratic agenda ahead of this year's midterm elections.

"There isn't a Republican Party. I wish there were. I wish there was a Republican Party. I wish there was one person you could sit across the table from, make a deal, make a compromise, and know when you got up from that table it was done," Biden said Friday morning at the House Democrats' issues conference on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

"All you had to do was look at the response to the State of the Union,” he added. “What were there, three or four?"

Is Joe Biden ready for 2016?

Democrats need to pick up 17 seats to regain the majority in the House. Most political handicappers say that with such a narrow list of competitive congressional districts this year, the odds are long that they can reach that goal.

Democrats appeared stronger in the poll last autumn during the government shutdown, which Americans largely blamed on congressional Republicans. But the botched rollout of a key component of President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act has essentially evened the score with the GOP.

Biden acknowledged the political hurdle Obamacare could cause Democrats this year, but insisted a majority of Americans want to see the health care law stay in place.

The vice president said the American people "are already where we want them to be" on the big issues, rattling off poll numbers favoring Democrats on marriage equality, women's issues and the economy.

"Between now and November is three political lifetimes. A lot's going to happen. A lot can change," he said. "Keep your eye on the ball. The American people are where we are."

Biden says presidential decision will come next summer

Pivoting to the deal reached on Capitol Hill earlier this week raising debt ceiling, Biden warned that GOP pick-ups in House and Senate would mean continued fights over fiscal matters.

Biden's remarks focused largely on America's pivotal spot in the world, attributing the United States' robust international standing to a strong middle class. He cautioned, however, of a closing opportunity gap for citizens hoping to join the middle class.

"They talk about the fact that we shouldn't be talking about income inequality,” the vice president said. “I think it would be a sin if we didn't' talk about income inequality. … The single greatest obligation we have as a party is to widen that aperture so more people can get in and stay in."

Decoding Biden's words: If Hillary runs, he won't

Biden was also scheduled to host a closed press question and answer session with House Democrats on Friday.

President Obama will also meet with the House Democrats Friday morning before departing to California for a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah.

From what the far left is saying about Hillary I would say there is a divide in the Democratic party as well. Of course no major main stream media will report on that . They'll just keep saying how wonderful everything is for the Democrats and how terrible the Republicans are. Unfortunately the media has got most of the Americans brain washed. Doesn't matter though. If the Democrats stay in office we'll be shutting the doors and turning out the lights in American.

Does Joe Biden realize he is the buffoon of the Democrat Party? Who in their right mind would vote for this senile old fart?

John in Illinois, you hit the nail on the head. PEOPLE NEED TO THINK ABOUT WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY (and vote accordingly) and not necessarily what is good for them as individuals. What is good for the country will automatically be good for the people and their generations to come and rather than focus on what is good for you, focus on what will make our country strong once again.

People really need to look at track records rather than mere words from a perspective candidate.

Unfortunately many in this country hate it so much they want to see it destroyed, or fundamentally transformed into a third world back water.

"Is Joe Biden ready for 2016?"

Is Joe Biden ready for 2015, in case the newly elected Senate impeaches Obama and he has to serve as President for the remaining 20 or so months?

Vice President Biden is right. I have known the Republican Party for decades and it has nothing in common with the crazy mob that has hijacked the name.

We need a RESPONSIBLE Republican Party. Right now it is a loose group of anti whatever who will not be able to win a National election.

Typical Marxist ... tells it backasswards. The once proud democratic party was long ago hijacked by the liberal Marxist socialist progressives (communists). They hide behind the name, just like jihadists hide behind women and children.

There isn't unity in either party. But the divide in the Republican party is much more significant than anything going on with the Democrats, and it's a handicap heading into the next presidential election. But I'm not assuming anything. The Democrats are perfectly capable of squandering any advantages they might have right now.

This man is a PITA. Shoulda stayed in the Senate, Joe – you are not presidential. Although – admittedly, I'd rather you were president than Barack Obama.

I did not say there was no Republican party – I said that it appears that the Democratic-Republican party never split in 1791. All a bunch of liars, cheaters, stealers, corrupt fools. Party of Herbert Hoovers – ya are! Disconnected and this nation needs someone strong and good looking to take the helm of the White House – not ol' Dumbo Ears whose flight was delayed because the first lady needed to return to the White House on Air Force 1!

"Does Joe Biden realize he is the buffoon of the Democrat Party?" If he realized, he would have become a stand-up comic instead of a politician. He is without a doubt the biggest m o r o n in today's government.

0-Bama's mouthpiece for sure. And, this 0-Bama trained divider wants to be president of the USA?!

América would have to be "loco" to support his candidacy; or Hillary's for that matter.

Look at what América ended up with when 0-Bama was elected!!!
