Judge deems Virginia's same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional

(CNN) - A federal judge in Virginia has struck down the commonwealth's ban on same-sex marriage as unconstitutional, according to court documents.

"These laws deny Plaintiffs their rights to due process and equal protection guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution," U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen wrote in her opinion.

Which Party wants to (and does) pass laws to have ordinary Americans be required to present 'their papers' to the 'authorities' to 'prove' they have a right to walk down the friggin' street?
    -------------------------------------------------
Yes indeed, and we're not talking about this occurring somewhere near broder towns out in the West.
Nu-uh. This is happenning right here in the East also.
Prince Williams county in the state of Virginia saw a huge emmigration of it's Latino community and Latino owned businesses closing because of these "stop and show" laws.
Embarrassing in the year of our Lord 2014.

    The avalanche has started.

Nevada is next, followed by Idaho, Michigan, Texas, and so on.

As long as the lower courts are consistent, SCOTUS won't touch it.

I would like for CNN to find out how much of the tax payer money has been wasted from the Governors on law suits about this subject.

By all appearances rational, civic-minded, reasonable Republicans who are sick and tired of the terroristic nonsense that their Party has chosen to embrace are too scared to make their vote known to those in their Party lest they be outcasted and have their funds cut off if they're up for re-election.
Why aren't the usual suspects on this board up in arms about the fact that Conservatives in government have to vote in secrecy for fear of reprisals from their own Party.
We are a democracy, last time I checked.
People should'nt fear reprisals for their vote.
Oh Chris Christie where art thou?........

But the Supreme Court SHOULD touch it and put the issue to bed once and for all.

This must sting the Righties- after all, their mantra is "we're under attack", and that is how they rally their base. Unfortunately none of then can articulate how allowing consenting same-sex adults to marry (and have the same rights as the rest of us) affects in any way their marriage or their lives. This is about privilege, pure and simple. The re-tread of this argument are those poor, poor millionaires and billionaires who feel that they too are under attack (for paying the lowest tax rates in history) because our nation suffers the greatest disparity of wealth in more than a century.
The GOP is demonstrating their delusion by supporting the nonsensical policies they do

Why do conservatives get so upset about freedom for all people. They don't understand that freedom and tolerance for people that look and believe like them is not really tolerance at all.

“Knowledge and liberty are so prevalent in this country, that I do not believe that the United States would ever be disposed to establish one religious sect, and lay all others under legal disabilities. But as we know not what may take place hereafter, and any such test would be exceedingly injurious to the rights of free citizens, I cannot think it altogether superfluous to have added a clause, which secures us from the possibility of such oppression.”
~Oliver Wolcott, Connecticut Ratifying Convention, 9 January 1788

"These laws deny Plaintiffs their rights to due process and equal protection guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution,"

Indeed they do. But the SCOTUS has very carefully avoided having to make that particular ruling thus far. Hopefully, an appeal of this ruling will force their hand.

Painting with broad brushes, Lynda? There are conservatives with different views on this and other topics as well, just as there are liberals with different views on this and other topics. This country is far too polarized as it is, thank you very much.

I'm one of those RIGHTIES- and I'm tired of the trickeling on this subject– As a Libertarian- I want smaller government and could give a flying fudgecicle about this topic- I'm fine with same sex marriage- I believe we should all have access to the same happiness and or misery– I do expect that when Same sex marriage become accepted law, that we all must agree to 1 very basic stipulation– define a sex– CHOOSE 1– to the LGBT activists and community- If you are a lesbian GREAT- you are a WOMAN– If you are GAY- FANTASTIC- then YOU ARE A MAN– IF you are BI-SEXUAL- LOOK DOWN and identify yourself as MALE or FEMALE– and if you are TRANS- CHOOSE~BUT make a decision– with that said– get your prenups ready and enjoy or destroy your lives–

When did leaving people alone to marry who they want and have ""Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"" become "socialism"? Just leave people alone Rick. That is actually libertarian-ism.

You don't have to convince us. You have to convince the religio-fascist folks in the GOP/Teatrolls that what they believe is a useful wedge issue for securing voters has now turned into very damaging self-flagellation.

"Voters and citizens have no rights anymore. "

Voters and citizens never had the right to vote away the civil rights of others in this country. This isn't taking anything away. This is just reminding you that you don't have and can't have what you desperately think you're entitled to.

    I know, right?!
But I do believe that some are still left lurking in the shadows, living "in the closet" (so to speak) that they've had to hide in in order not to be booted bodily by the cray-crays that have taken over.
And I will tell you something else that I believe, Boehner is one of them. Yet with that group of psychopaths that he presides over, he'd be eaten alive if they caught a whiff of common sense and compromise from him.
They are vampires I tell you, sucking the blood and life out of this country any way they can.
