President at 42% on Presidents Day

Washington (CNN) - As President Barack Obama marks his sixth Presidents Day in office, his approval ratings remain near the lowest of his presidency.

According to a CNN Poll of Polls compiled Monday, which averages the most recent non-partisan, live operator national surveys, the President's approval rating stands at 42%, with 53% of Americans giving a thumbs down to Obama's performance in the White House.

While the President's approval rating has slightly edged up since November and early December when it was at or near all time lows in many national surveys, it's still far below where it stood a year ago. In February 2013, soon after his second inaugural and just two months removed from his 2012 re-election victory, Obama's approval rating stood at 52% in a CNN Poll of Polls.

The President's numbers tumbled after late spring and summer following controversies over the Edward Snowden intelligence leaks and congressional investigations into IRS targeting of conservative political groups. Then came October and the politically charged botched rollout of Obamacare, his signature domestic policy achievement.

Coupled with legislative setbacks, many pundits labeled 2013 the worst year of Obama's presidency. And for the first time since taking over at the White House in 2009, a majority of the public surveyed disapproved of his job performance.

The silver lining for the President in all these polls: While his numbers are anything but impressive, the approval ratings for Congress overall, and specifically for congressional Republicans and Democrats, are much lower.

The approval rating is considered one of the best gauges of a president's standing with Americans and of his clout with lawmakers here in Washington.

The CNN Poll of Polls is an average of the three non-partisan, live operator, national surveys of the president's approval rating conducted over the past two weeks: Gallup daily tracking poll (Feb. 13-15); Fox News (Feb. 9-11); and Marist-McClatchy (Feb. 4-9). Since it is an average of multiple surveys, the Poll of Polls does not have a sampling error.

And what's Congress' approval rating right now? The President isn't up for reelection so I can care less about what his approval rating is.

It amazes me that it's even that high. Even far-Lefties should have figured out by now that man is a great synthesis of dishonesty and incompetence. He's in way over his head.

King George V of England never wanted to be king. All he really wanted to do was collect stamps. And all Obama really wants to do is play basketball.

I wonder why CNN forgot to mention the REAL reason why Obama's poll numbers have tanked? He was voted LIAR OF THE YEAR! Millions of Americans lost the healthcare plan they were promised by Obama and his other lying Democrats, that they could keep.

And now he has acted lawlessly over and over, changing Obamacare without Congressional approval in order to delay the real disaster that Obamacare is from the American people. A majority of the American people don't trust him and they believe he is dishonest. He told far too many lies at this point to regain their trust.

The only people still supporting Obama are those that have no problem with seeing this country destroyed and our Constitution trampled and torn up so that Obama can just issue dictates from the White House.

Why is his approval rating so low? I thought the majority (i.e. 51% or more) worships him.

Still better than the Congressional GOPpers at 21%. The politics of destruction they practice does work, but there are unfortunate side effects for them.

People don't wonder why his polling numbers are so low, but cause they don't feel they can trust the President or his administration. His policies have not helped the middle class working tax payer, they have hurt them. People want full time jobs with benefits like they had before 2008, but the policies and mandates of this President and administration have failed them. The ACA has provided more Medicaid for individuals than private paying Americans. More than 8 million have lost their healthcare insurance, that they wanted , at a cost they could afford. Over 5 million Americans aren't even looking for word, why? because subsides of the government makes it easy not too. Something is got to happen to change things around, maybe its time for REAL CHANGE in Congress 2014.

The Reality is that when the big Government Policies were put in place by Liberal's with the best of intentions everything was supposed to get better. After 100 years of these Policies how much better are things? Not much. I would say this poll describes the populous of the last 100 years. People voted for all this. Now they don't like the results but can't see where the problem is. Look up POGO to see who the enemy is.

I think Obama has done a very good job, considering the fact that republicans have said "no" to anything he is for. Republicans have set records (in the entire history of this country) for blocking, stalling, filibusters, etc. including shutting down the government. They only say what they are against, not what they are for.

No, just the Harvard Law Review. As a Boy Scout leader, I can tell you he's more than capable of running a troop, and it would be more enjoyable than dealing with the bait-and-switch GOP leadership. His signature is on my son's Eagle certificate, btw,
