Palin backs Abbott after Nugent appearance, endorses Sessions' challenger

(CNN) – Sarah Palin rallied Wednesday behind Texas attorney general Greg Abbott, endorsing the Republican gubernatorial hopeful and defending Abbott for appearing on the campaign trail this week with controversial rocker Ted Nugent.

"If he is good enough for Ted Nugent, he is good enough for me!" the former Alaska governor wrote on Facebook.

Nugent, a fierce gun rights activist who's known for making outlandish comments about President Obama, campaigned with Abbott at two events Monday. Democrats pointed to some of Nugent's past controversial remarks in an effort to discredit Abbott.

The campaign for Abbott, however, acknowledged it was simply inviting Nugent to help turn out the base during early voting, which began Monday.

Abbott lacks a major GOP opponent in the March 4 primary.

In the same Facebook post, which marked her first endorsements for 2014 GOP primaries, she encouraged voters to support Katrina Pierson, who's challenging nine-term Republican Rep. Pete Sessions.

"Katrina Pierson is an emerging leader and important voice for the future of the grassroots conservative movement," the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee wrote.

Pierson, a conservative activist with tea party support, is a strong backer of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, has helped campaign for Pierson, who lags far behind Sessions in campaign cash.

The congressman appeared to brush off Pierson's primary challenge, telling CNN earlier this month on Capitol Hill that "these things happen."

Asked if he was worried about the challenge, Sessions repeated that "these things happen."

Sessions represents the Lone Star State's 32nd congressional district, a solidly Republican district located around North Dallas.

CNN's Deirdre Walsh, Paul Steinhauser, Peter Hamby and Dana Bash contributed to this report.

Darrel...Ted has said absolutely nothing racist about Resident Obama.

Dude....it's on tape...live....him calling him a "sub-human mongrel"....I mean really, let's put all politics aside, do you not even think Barack Obama as a man deserves more respect than that?

And let me just say this about Nugent. I actually don't think he is that much of a racist. No rational person could be. I think he's just an over the hill rock star who has realized that his only method to stay famous is to be more and more outrageous. The more extreme stuff he says, the more publicity he gets. I understand that. The politicians who think it's a good idea to associate themselves with him...that is more disturbing.

Republicans admire Ted Nugent because they wish they had thought of crapping their pants to get out of serving their country (that or go on a Mormon mission to Paris).

Is this a surprise to anyone? Ted Nugent speaks for many a "right-winger". Him and Phil 'whats-his-name' who insisits that his family's impoverished black workers were "happy and singing".

Anything or anyone endorsed by Palin has to be bad. Nugent may be able to sing, but he is a poor excuse for a human being, sets a bad example for our youth and is a public discrace. The only thing more dispicable than a White Supremist running for office, are those that wink and act like it is just a political statement not a moral and ethical issue. This man is not projecting American values or Christian Values. He is projecting division, hate, bigotry and evil.

If this is the future of the GOP, then the Party is doomed. Patriots who have fought to protect the highest ideals of this Great Country oppose everything this Racist stands for.

I'm so hoping that the likes of Abbott, Cruz, Stockman, and too many others to count. Keep the repulsive folks like Nugent, and Palin close during their campaigns. Just Ted Nugent alone caused me to send Wendy Davis a check! After the apparent dismal job these Texas Tea Party members have caused not only in our State, but in the Country? They need to go in 2014, and 2016. Get out and Vote these rascals out of office for not doing their jobs. They've done nothing but hurt Women, Children, the Elderly, the Disabled, the Veterans, and many Minorities, and I believe folks here in Texas just might be waking up! Especially Women, and Minorities! Please Vote!

Mr Nugent deficated in his pants for 30 days and didn't shower once so he could avoid serving his country – now he is all american and supports the war effort and the troops – just like a good republican now that his chance of ever having to carry a weapon in battle and risk his life is ZERO he has no problem having the troops be killed

She resigned to make the TV show, and let's face it, her administration wasn't fairing much better than Christie's is right now. She had several investigations into her actions as governor, none true though, of course, she is beyond reproach, lmfao. How delusional must one be seriously think she is capable of running a McDonald's, let alone s state.

Resisting the draft during Vietnam is one thing; being totally hypocritical about it later in life by talking about how many hippies he would have killed in the foxholes (had he not resisted the draft) is another. True resisters deserve recognition; Nugent deserves what he says he filled his pants with way back then.

Bassman says that Sarah Palin in an American hero.
    .........................................................................................................................................................................................
Sarah Palin is NOT an American hero. Has she served in the military? Has she done any meaningful charity work to help the poor in this country? Has she done ANYTHING useful in her vain life? Please don't cheapen the word hero by calling her one. She is an attention addict.

I'm surprised the NAACP hasn't sued this low life Nugent..calling the President a 'subhuman mongrel'..don't white surpremisists like him consider black people 'subhuman'..Obama has a black father and a white mother..a mix of races..that's what 'mongrel' stands for..he chose those words knowing full well the meaning..as for Palin..no comment is too much

Just like always. The teabag bobble heads start moving and "the world is a changin". Ha. Nothing, and I mean nothing, that the Tea Party or the GOP has been saying for the last 3 year's has made me think of voting for them. And Ted is so out of touch lately. He needs to go back to the 80's and play his music. That's all he is good at.
