(CNN) - President Barack Obama will meet with the Dalai Lama at the White House on Friday.
Obama has met with the Dalai Lama twice before, in February 2010 and July 2011, according to National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden.
The White House said the administration supports his "Middle Way" approach to the political tension between China and Tibet over protests for Tibetan independence.
"The United States recognizes Tibet to be a part of the People’s Republic of China and we do not support Tibetan independence. The United States strongly supports human rights and religious freedom in China," Hayden said.
"We are concerned about continuing tensions and the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibetan areas of China. We will continue to urge the Chinese government to resume dialogue with the Dalai Lama or his representatives, without preconditions, as a means to reduce tensions."
I thought the Dalai Lama had more self respect than that.
THe Holy Roman Empire trip is next i heard in the news ? Thats Great he will be more comfortable there .
A true G2 of equals is the only peaceful way for the world to develop in the next 50 years.
EQUALS means that each party must RESPECT the fundamental interest of the other. Burying your head in the sand and brushing aside China's interests guarantees that action begets reaction.
This 2014 China is already beginning to wind down the Treasury holdings. The $56 Billion is only a test case, and probably needed to fund the various infrastructure projects in developing nations. If the conditions do not improve, there really is no need for China to continue to hold GSEs. Most other investments, even US$ based ones, pay much higher returns.
Makes sense... our socialist president and self-professed Marxist Dalai Lama whould get along quite well!
China is acting dictatorial. Watch out.
