Senate blocks military sexual assault bill

(CNN) - The U.S. Senate on Thursday defeated an impassioned legislative push to reduce the growing problem of sex assault in the armed forces by overhauling the way the military prosecutes serious crimes.

By a vote of 55 to 45, a bill championed by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand failed to get the 60 votes needed for passage.

The measure would have removed military commanders from deciding whether most serious allegations of wrongdoing by their subordinates should be prosecuted.

Gillibrand, a New York Democrat, said the change was needed because bias can creep into the decisions of commanders and that has led to many sex assaults not being prosecuted.

I don't care who runs. I'd vote for the Easter Bunny before I'd vote for another Democrat. At least I would know the Easter Bunny isn't knowingly trying to wreck the country and our healthcare system like the Democrats are.

Stupid. For once in his miserable life, Grassley hit the nail on the head: the military has been promising to deal with this and fix it for ages and they have FAILED miserably. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. GOPers like Graham who think the military is infallible and idiot weakling cowardly Dems who are afraid to vote correctly on things because it's a mid-term should all be kicked in the back of the head on this one.

And so the Senate minority once again blocks progress in solving a difficult and persistent social and legal problem. And once again those who seek justice are thwarted in the name of politics and blind allegiance to a short-sighted ideology that undermines the very thing it claims to prize. Such a situation cannot stand. The Senate Old Boys' Club needs to be tossed out come November.

Yet another GOP filibuster, that places then squarely against the wishes of the American population, supporting rapists. The GOP war on women rages on.

What a worthless group of people congress has become. Time for MAJOR changes. If the GOTP has done anything correctly in the last decade it has been to show us how broken our government is. Of course, isn't that also called suicide?
Not that most Americans would care.

I love it when symbology can stir up irrational fear among those so sheltered by modern life they don't know how anything works behind the scenes of the grocery store that sustains them. Mitch McConnel is holding a black powder muzzle loading rifle, an ancient, antique symbol of pioneering American spirit and independence. Muzzle loaders are so difficult to use as weapons they are legal to send through the mail except to urban fear zones like Chicago and Washington D.C. In the sane parts of America they remain quaint symbols of freedom and toys for those who fancy them. Charlton Heston raised a similar weapon over his head and dared tyrants to pry it from his "cold, dead hands". From reading this "news" report and the responses of outraged gentry one would think Mitch had threatened to hose down the audience with an assault weapon. Most of grown up America knows better and is quite comfortable being amused at ignorant liberal progressive intolerance. Do you think Charlton Heston or Ronald Reagan would obfuscate and back down from Bashar al Assad or Vladimir Putin?

There should be a large banner posted behind the podium at this years CPAC meeting stating:

We are the party that with lies and deception tricked the country into going to war in Iraq. Because of our lies and deception there are over 4,000 young Americans who are lying in their graves, and tens of thousands more who will live out the rest of their lives without arms or legs or worse.

And all done at the cost of hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars. So stand up and be proud Republicans, and tell the American people why we should be elected this November.

You need to be tired of the nonsense of our governing bodies then, both sides are ridiculous at times but nothing beats the tea party group who would reduce us to returning the clock backwards by a hundred years or maybe more. Full of opportunists, racists, power hungry individuals and sadly for those decent members of this group who are outnumbered it is not going to change. Overlook the partisan foolishness of others such as CNN including FOX as they both have their continuing mis informing of joe public and insulting ones intelligence by always leaving out the truth by eliminating to mention the whole wording or whatever! Yellow journalism is in the forefront SIFTO.
