Colin Powell takes on Ellen with awesome selfie

(CNN) – Watch out, Ellen.

Colin Powell is starting his own selfie sensation.

The former secretary of state posted a photo on Facebook for what's become a social media tradition known as "Throwback Thursday," where people post photos from their past.

The retired four star general uploaded a black-and-white photo of a young Powell taking a picture of himself in front of a mirror.

"I was doing selfies 60 years before you Facebook folks. Eat your heart out Ellen!" he wrote in the caption.

As of 1:45 p.m. ET, his photo had more than 46,000 "likes" and 11,000 shares on Facebook.

Ellen DeGeneres blew up Twitter earlier this month when the 2014 Oscars host squeezed in a number of A-list celebrities for an epic selfie at the Academy Awards.

It was re-tweeted more than 3.3 million times.

Are those antique gas lamp fixtures on the wall? At lot of older homes that were finally updated with electricity just abandoned them in place....after disconnecting the gas and purging the lines, of course. My grandmother's house had them.

Good ol Collin....I remember when he was a frontrunner to run for president. Would've won too. However, he made the mistake of siding with Obama.

The fallout was saddening. Here we had a 4 star general ( I think), who sever with honor, steadfast republican who served under Bush. being screamed upon by conservatives for daring to not follow the hivemind. And to make it worse, even though he laid out specific and logical reasons for supporting Obama, conservatives said he did so simply because of race.

It would seem that the first Bush term was a life alterilng, wake-up call. for him Wouldn't you say? He seemed to realize that he was operating in a black and white environment, and got out with some dignity.

@Reggie53: "Who cares????? Cannot trust him......he says he is a republican but still supporting Obama because he is black."

See, that's the problem with all you goose-stepping righties: You say you believe in freedom, but once someone from your own party expresses an opinion that isn't sanctioned by Limbaugh and the other powers-that-be, you call them traitors.

See why people with brains think you're hypocritical nuts?

Basically, you're saying the only reason Powell supports President Obama is because they are both black. You are a racist, Chris.

    -------------------------------------------------
I would certainly say so even though I am not fully aware of the particulars of how he was used or not in that whole WMD and Iraq war deal.
Certainly his open endorsement of then-Senator Obama sent a tidal wave through the Republican Party.
I wonder how much of that endorsement may have been poltical paybackof sorts Rudy?
It cetainly looked to us then-political neophytes like a deathblow to McCain.

Facts aren't welcome in Conservative land because they get in the way of their ideological rants.
