Obama announces more Russian sanctions

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama on Thursday announced more sanctions on individuals and one bank in response to Russia's moves to annex the Crimean Peninsula, as well as a new executive order that authorizes possible further sanctions on what he called "key sectors" of the Russian economy.

"We want the Ukrainian people to determine their own destiny and have good relations with the United States, Russia, Europe - anyone they choose," the President  said in calling for continued diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis over Russia's moves to annex the Crimean Peninsula.

So do you really think that anybody will care what Obama does? He is so timid in his reaction that what he does seems so non consequential. America is no longer that strong country that it was once known for years ago. We have a weak president so it shows how placid we have become and therefore we are no longer taken seriously by any of the other leading countries.

Another strongly worded memo.....Mr President, the Russians already took the money and ran. These sanctions are meaningless.

So, what's the solution? Bush's "shoot first" philosophy isolated America. What's your fix?

RS: The solution is that we get a president who is a strong leader which we do not have in Obama. He is weak and beyond his capabilities. At least Bush did something....this one is just all talk and no action!!!!!! Let us see what will happen....NOTHING!!!!!

Why does everyone point the finger at Obama on this crap. Do you think he sits alone in his office and decides this stuff? NO...he has a large group of bi-partisan advisors that decide this and he merely anounces it. Get a friggn' grip people. He's not like Bush...."the decider".

So to conservatives....the man willing to drone strike US citizens if they are involved in terrorist activities is weak and timid. The man who "want to fundamentally change the US" is also somehow weak.

But they guy who looked lovingly into Putin's eyes and saw his soul.....he's a tough guy!

Actually thanks to Bush who invaded Iraq on false pretenses the majority of the US populace does not want us to intervene militarily. Another thank you to Bush is that due to the cost of the Iraq war Putin knows we cannot afford to do much to stop him. I might also add that when Putin annexed Georgia Bush had to sit idle as he knew himself he screwed us with Iraq and put us in a place where we cannot preach much about invading another country to someone else.

Had Democrats done this during the Bush administration, Republicans would have labeled them traitors and un-American. Curiously, when Republians do this to Democrats, Republicans label themselves as patriots and American heroes.

Obama is in way over his head. Sanctions do not scare Russia. We have a weak President and Putin knows that. He has sat back and laughed while watching Obama ruin our country. He thinned out our military and now look where we are! Target military and then start problems with Russia..dumb move!!

The more sanctions the more the bond between Russia and Iran grows. Putin has called our bluff and our double stantard.

What did Bush do? Attack the wrong country? What did he do when Putin went into Georgia? You guys have the early stages of dimentia. Anyone with yhe ability to speak is considered weak. I for one am happy that we have a presidentthat uses diplomacy. If McCain would have been elected we would have to reinstate the draft just to have enough boots on the ground to handle all the conflicts McCain thinks are worth fighting for. He took Crimea big f-king deal. Obama has lit up more terroist in more countries then Bush did. He has gone into sovereign territories to go after terorists as well. Iran is at the bargaining table and so is Syria, so just sit back and watch how an intelligent adult handles business. The last tying we need is some pseudo greek god republican president.

This guy is like dog poop, he's everywhere. Did I miss out on the dignity of being the POTUS? When did it start becoming necessary for his face to be on every tv program? Is he going to start showing up on game shows next?

Republican hero, Putin, will soon have Russians in the street demanding his ouster. Russia is weak, has a fragile economy, and most intelligent Russians know it.

President Obama's statement on Ukraine expected, in tune with the times, one must view it on its multi-platform effect rather than a mere cant-do-anything stance, Russia yes a potent power not easily swayed with sanctions, for Russia doesn't need print money from the west, nor can be blockaded militarily, however, in terms of that press coverage we challenge these news outlets to keep up with the president as contemporary as possible with your gadgets

Bobbie......you do realize that every one of Obama's critics.....before and after complaining about him not doing enough.....couldn't offer a solution better than sanctions.

Would those of you calling President Obama weak, mind answering me as to what Bush did that made the US look soo much stronger when Putin invaded Georgia? Keep in mind Putin invaded Georgia after Bush invaded Iraq and Afghanistan so I guess that was not enough to make us look like tough guys to Putin. I am guessing it made him feel like, "If everyone else is doing it, why can't I?"

Our president is taking a balanced approach to most issues, you know like a leader. Europe is considering sanctionsas well and sanctions do hurt countries, without BOMBING people.

This drives the conservative talking heads nuts because they only like to see in extremes.
They alternately screech (depending on what they last heard on Rush or Hannity):
"Obama is too weak, not doing anything, only a community organizer" AND the next day
"Obama is taking over and doing too much, a dictator!"

Republicans truly are the party of stupid. They want a war right now, and cannot wait until all alternatives have been addressed. While the GOP is lead by the brilliance of Steve Doocie, there actually are intelligent ways of dealing with republican hero, Putin. Neo cons have been over their heads for 30 years.

Thank God its not a McCain or another Bush in the WH..They'd be itching their fingers wanting to call on their MIC buds to give them a call..Can't let those war machines or weapons of mass destruction of ours just lay there and rust can we..Republicans don't know what diplomacy is, its historic ,just shot first, ask questions or worry about consequences later ,just like their Dirty Harry idol in Clint Eastwood, remember him ...
