Alabama candidate takes aim at Obamacare

(CNN) - A U.S. House candidate in Alabama is literally shooting down Obamacare.

A video released by his campaign on Wednesday, shows Will Brooke using a variety of firearms to destroy a copy of the Affordable Care Act.

The ad begins with Brooke seated on the bed of a truck next to a stack of paper that he says is a copy of the law championed by the President.

The ad is titled "Let's Do Some Damage."

Brooke then drives off in truck, displaying a bumper sticker that reads "I prefer the dangers of a limited government!"

He arrives in a wooded area, loads the Obamacare papers into a wooden box starts shooting.

"We're down here to have a little fun today and talk about two serious subjects: the Second Amendment, and see how much damage we can do to this copy of Obamacare," he says in the ad.

After blasting it rhetorically and literally, Brooke loads the health care copy into a wood chipper and shreds what was left of it.

Brooke's campaign video was first reported by The Daily Caller.

Brooke is one of seven Republican candidates vying for the seat of retiring Rep. Spencer Bachus in the state’s 6th Congressional District.

The Alabama Republican isn't the first to use guns to hammer home a policy issue.

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia used a rifle to "take dead aim at Cap and Trade" in a 2010 campaign ad against efforts to pass a sweeping environmental bill in Congress.

Republicans nationwide are aggressively campaigning against Obamacare, which aims to provide health coverage to millions of people without it. It passed Congress in 2010 without any Republican support. Republicans hope to expand their majority in the House and reclaim the Senate.

CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.

Just what we need. Another mama grizzly stirring up the gun freaks. Once upon a time, the first qualification for public office was the demonstrated ability to act civil and respectable. Guess times have changed.

He could have started shooting at Mitt Romney's plan for Massachusetts, or maybe the one proposed by the Heritage Foundation in the Clinton years.

    He did, didn't he?

    critical thinking

I see many comments that use the term; "red neck". They are using the term in a derogatory manner.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yeah, much the same way your ilk uses "liberal" as if it were derogatroy. Hurts when someone turns the tables on you, doesn't it?

Lol, that might play well with the hick crowd in Alabama but unfortunately for the GOP, the majority of Americans do not want the ACA repealed, we want it to work as intended.

This is just another example of how disconnected the GOP is from mainstream America.

    Remember in November, folks.

In response to 'critical thinking'..., one origination of the term redneck actually comes from Scotland in the 1640s. A certain religious sect rejected rule by bishops, often signing manifestos using their own blood. Some wore red cloth around their neck to signify their position, and were called rednecks by the Scottish ruling class to denote that they were the rebels in what came to be known as The Bishop's War that preceded the rise of Cromwell. Eventually, the term began to mean simply "Presbyterian", especially in communities along the Scottish border. Because of the large number of Scottish immigrants in the pre-revolutionary American South, the term came into use in America.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans like it, and while I don't know this "Nobody" person to whom you refer, I'm glad s/he is onboard!

Funny how CNN concludes this article: "Republicans nationwide are aggressively campaigning against Obamacare, which aims to provide health coverage to millions of people without it."

Truth of the matter should read "aims to FORCE health coverage on millions of Americans while also FORCING other Americans to pick up the tab." That is the truth of the matter CNN. Wonder why your ratings are sinking to new lows? How about some honesty in what this bill is actually doing to the other 90% of the country?

The idea that no-one likes Obamacare is a lie. I have health coverage now only because I can't be denied because of my pre-existing medical issues.People who have good coverage are against the ACA just as the insurance companies will do anything they can to deny women coverage for birth control. Just keep blaming everything on "Liberals" and we will see how the next electoin turns out. Why do so called "Patriots" hate the majority of Americans, hate the president, and blame everything on the poor?

Obviously this guy is a gun NUT. If he is trying to express himself that he has the freedom and money to own guns, we all get it, he obviously has money to waste. Buring the Affordable Care Act instead would get the job done much quicker, guess he is concerned with polution or getting sutt on his clothing. It is also nice to know he is well off while the majority of people in his home state cannot afford healtcare even with the ACA health plans.

It is a shame that the Government has to take the approach of socializing healthcare when it would make more sense to go after those who run the insurance costs and even more so the pharmaceutical companies and health care providers that drive the prices up so high as to why we pay so much for healthcare to begin with. Lastly, most Americans are part of the problem for not taking care of themselves by not eating all the junk food, smoking tobacco and pot that damage your lungs if not causing actual disease and cancer. The big chemical and oil corporations that dump so much toxins in our waterways. How about all the nuts who comit acts of rage and violence by injuring and killing others. Crap, and this guy is shooting up the affordable care act. Aim that gun where it really should be aimed and not something intended to help people. Better yet, put the gun down and reach across the aisle to fix what is bad in all our social programs. Go after the waste and abuse of food stamps, medical insurance, drug trafficing, gangs and racketeering. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

So instead of reading it and offering legitimate alternatives, he shoots it up and walks off with no answers.

Then they wonder why people hate this congress.

Jerry: "Yet Republicans continue to provide no viable alternative plan while in their attempts to repeal the ACA."

That's because there is no Republican plan, nor is there a need for them to come-up with one. The government needs to stay out of health insurance. By their own logic, they should be nationalizing auto/homeowner's insurance as well. If you still think Big Government is the answer, go visit an Indian Reservation, a VA Hospital, or your local DMV, to see how well they run 'big things'...

Anyone suggesting a so-called "health savings account" better make sure they' have $40k to START such an "account" because one gardening, camping trip (my brother in law severed his index finger while chopping firewood on a Boy Scout camping trip when he was a teen) or sports accident can cost tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenses, and if you don't have insurance you'll pay full price to have your finger reattached. What if you don't have the funds in your "health savings account" to cover your medical expenses – then what? Additionally, who would be responsible for administering these so-called "health savings accounts", and how much of your $$$ are they going to skim every year?

You were already paying for those who couldn't afford insurance. The only difference is those who CAN afford medical coverage will now be required to have "skin in the game" (you know – that phrase the right likes to toss around when it pertains to imposing income taxes on impoverished Americans) and pay their own way. So it's well past time for your to man up, put on your big boy pants and stop sticking responsible Americans with YOUR medical bills.

Another Republican... shooting his gun and mouth off, but working against the American people. This GOP has controlled the House and all of its committees since 2011, but they have been completely unable to bring any alternative to Obamacare to the House floor. They can't get anything out of their own majority controlled committees. The Democrats in the House can do absolutely NOTHING to block any health care bill the GOP might want to bring out of committee and onto the floor, but yet ZERO concept has made it to the floor.

There was yet ANOTHER study released showing how the fiscally irresponsible GOP is bankrupting Medicare and threatening to leave seniors without any health care coverage. Their "Medicare Advantage" program was AGAIN found to be wasting 86%(!!) of taxpayer money on insurance company executive salaries and marketing, while only 14%(!!) is actually being spent on health care. With all that massive GOP waste, the program was shown to not even provide any improved coverage or results for seniors over traditional Medicare.

This is even worse than the fiscally incompetent GOP's efforts to bankrupt Medicare and leave seniors with no health care coverage by all the corporate welfare queen hand outs they initiated for drug companies. The GOP forced Medicare to waste 50% of its prescription drug funding by requiring Medicare to pay drugs companies TWICE what the VA pays for drugs.

Nobody knows how to waste money like the GOP. "The GOP: We're fighting hard to make your government dysfunctional."
