Vice President Biden's big weekend

Washington (CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden is doing something this weekend that he hasn't done since 2011 - giving the White House Weekly Address.

The Vice President will use the weekly address that's heard on radio and the internet to stress the importance of raising the federal minimum wage, which has been a major goal for the administration over the past few months.

"The address will cap off the Vice President's eventful week spent advancing a number of the administration's domestic priorities," a Biden aide said.

"From touring a successful workforce training program in New Hampshire with Secretary Perez to demanding a higher wage for tipped workers at a local diner in Washington D.C. to encouraging Americans to sign up for health insurance through radio interviews, stakeholder calls, and online engagements, the Vice President's efforts throughout the week have been focused on moving key issue areas forward."

Biden's appearance on the weekly address comes as President Barack Obama is on an official trip to Europe and the Middle East.

Politico's Mike Allen was the first to report that the Vice President is delivering Saturday's address.

Joe's a great VP. I think he'd make a helluva President. Since we're on the topic of minimum wage and budget priorities, I would've loved to see Paul Ryan accompany the President to the Vatican to meet the Pope. There's a guy whose lost his religion yet claims to be a catholic.

But raising the minimum wage will get 16 million people out of poverty. Who will the GOP have left to make fun of, now that the rate of uninsured is the lowest in years? But the bigger right wing concern is the cost of products going up: Who will pay $1.03 for a Mc Chicken sandwich, or $11.04 for cardboard and tomato paste from Papa John's, or 60 cents a pound for bananas at Wal-Mart?

@just asking "obama thinks he can do anything he wants with executive orders"
    ----------
Presidents from G.Washington have used the executive order. You were probably really upset with Bush's executive orders attempting to funnel federal money to certain religious groups in violation of the constitution. Right?

You mean the one that found that raising the minimum wage will increase the budget deficit by billions? Nah... nothing to see there.

Enough – Did you read the part where over 16 million will be raised out of poverty? That means you won't have as many seeking assistance. Which part did you read?

As usual. partial truth out of context is the conservative friend. CBO called out 0.5 million loss in that one report but CBO also foresees increases in employment slowly reflecting the slow recovery thanks to Obama. Somewhere in the 7-8 million range so 7.5 million – 0.5 million is still 7 million new job growth.

Ah yes, the executive order conspiracy.

FYI, if you look at executive orders issued by president per year in office, Obama has the lowest number of executive orders signed by any president since James Garfield (who was only in office for half a year before being assassinated).

@Tampa Tim-Raising the min. wage will not decrease poverty levels. The min.wage workers will be working less hours, product prices and cost of living will rise(because they always do), and you will see more self checkout and technology replacing min. wage workers. The corporations will make their profits and they don`t care about the little people.

  13. Dems in PA

Isn’t it amazing that the Democrats have to make up issues, topics and talking point; as an example minimum wage and equal pay; Democrats can NEVER run on what they have done. Let Democrats run on the past 5 years of failures. Oh sorry; they are running away as fast as they can from the last 5 years!

And since they don't care, self-checkout will happen no matter what the minimum wage is. In the great glorious world of corporate freedom envisioned by the ultra conservative how are the "little people treated? Any better? Visit Walmart for your answer.

    --------------------–
FACT: People have been saying that ever since the minimum wage was established. Every time that the minimum wage has been raised, all of the doomsayers have always been proven wrong. You have absolutely no facts to back up your assertions.

Workers will not be scheduled for fewer hours because of a wage increase. Product demand is what determines how many workers you will need, and how to schedule them.

    Listen to yourself.

"... product prices and cost of living will rise(because they always do), ..."

Rising prices and costs of living will occur because they will rise with or without an increase in the minimum wage. We have already seen more self-checkout systems. Home Depot uses them exclusively around here.

Fair – Other than an outside right wingnut article, I have found nothing in the CBO report that talked about billions being added to the deficit. Are you talking about the McMorris article?

Failure is what the last Republican administration granted us, a return to that is what your offering when you vote gop, remember, their tax plan that they want is mittens1.8% top tax rate. To offset such a loss of revenue, they will kill ss, and Medicaid, the tax deductions that make the biggest difference, your mortgage interest, and your 401 k would be after taxes, as well ad your employer healthcare contribution, now that's a plan the Koch brothers can appreciate!

Let's not forget the gop tax reform also includes, letting all the big businesses and uber wealthy bring home offshore accounts, tax free of course, pure genius.
