Hillary Clinton poses with Pussy Riot members

(CNN) – A photo of Hillary Clinton and members of the Russian pop band Pussy Riot has gone viral, with more than 9,000 retweets on Twitter and over 10,000 "favorites."

Clinton's Twitter account posted the photo, saying "Great to meet the strong & brave young women from #PussyRiot, who refuse to let their voices be silenced in #Russia."

The former secretary of state posted the photo Friday after meeting with band members while the annual Women in the World Summit in New York.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were imprisoned for nearly two years after being convicted of "hooliganism" and inciting religious hatred for performing a punk song slamming Putin in a Moscow cathedral and then posting a video of it online.

They were also briefly detained during the Sochi Winter Olympic Games earlier this year.

@smith REALLY??? they spent 2 years in a Russian prison for fame and attention? I think you need to do some reading. They are protesting their tyrant of a "leader" using their music.

Never forget the 12 Americans who died at Embassy raids under Bush.

Two thumbs up. Hillary is looking great with Pussy Riot. But no one ever thought they would see this headline. LOL

This is a classic. So we have a former first lady of dubious ethics, a former Senator who voted to invade middle eastern countries and a former Secretary of State who told us the men died and so what posing with women who questioned their government. Yet when anyone questioned her or Bill, it was a vast right wing conspiracy. The only conspiracy in that White House was the hundreds of unsolved deaths and the hundreds of thousands of profits on minor investments they made.

Google PussyRiot for a video of their 'talent'. Perhaps the dumbest, most untalented performers you will ever watch. Thank God they have political stands to get them some publicity

The whipping these girls took at the Olympics was disgraceful. Somehow it was downplayed by the media. They deserve the highest respect of all Americans. Including Hillary and her opponents. This is not a political issue.

I'm quite surprised they would let their picture be taken with Shillary. Benghazi never forget.

They were thrown into prison for their beliefs.
I suppose you had a good laugh when you read accounts of Gandhi, Mandela, and John the Baptist being thrown in prison for their beliefs.
I hope Karma gives you that kind of "attention" someday. Perhaps you will learn not to be so quick to call names..

lol...what about all the detainees at Gitmo hilary? America is the land of the biggest hypocrisy there ever has been. It's okay when we are fighting the Russian power – but try and protest the injustice in our streets.

@Gary – I would like to forget 9-11-2001, the 15 embassy attacks with 50 killed under Bush, the $2 trillion unnecessary war with 4500 killed and 45,000 wounded, the record job loss of 2008, and the Great Recession, but I cannot.

Those girls are not only brave, they are heroines of free speech. Of course this little non-event will be blown out of proportion by the taking heads of FOX news, the Koch brothers and their ignorant puppets, twisted up and re-posted with cries of Benghazi, Benghazi, as if Ms. Clinton had attacked that wretchedly dangerous outpost herself. Remember those 40 million tax payer dollars wasted by Republican witch hunters on Whitewater and Ken Starr? Look for history to repeat itself if she decides to run for president.

Conservatives will ignore these horrible things until a fringe group forms to blame Clinton or Obama for them with a secret time machine. From Area 51.
