Poll: Rate of uninsured Americans drops

(CNN) - A new survey indicates 15.6% of Americans don't have health insurance, marking the lowest rate since 2008.

According to a Gallup poll released Monday, the current rate is down from 18% in the third quarter of 2013, which was an all-time high.

The poll comes as good news for the White House, a week after it announced more than 7 million people had signed up on the federal and state exchanges for health care insurance.

The health care law also includes expanded Medicaid insurance for the poor in many states, but those participants are not part of the sign-up total.

For the health care law to work successfully, the Obama administration needs a significant portion of enrollees to be young. According to Gallup, "the uninsured rate dropped by about the same amount among adults aged 26 to 64 as it did among those aged 18-25."

The rate fell across every major demographic group, but it dropped the most for lower-income Americans and African-Americans.

Gallup interviewed 43,562 adults by telephone from January 2 to March 31. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus one percentage point.

CNN's Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

Obama care is a junk policy in disguise– Wait until the deductables, co-pays and lack of doctors kicks in as people try to use these government created handouts... They are worse than any junk insurance policy ever rcreated and you and I as taxpayers are footing the bill for this and all the failed websites– Millions if not trillions in the long run.

More jobs, ACA starting to work, not killing US soldiers in wars – what is the conservative brain trust response?

Quite promoting Obama and Hillary, they aren't any better for the country than another Bush.
    -------------------------------------------------
Don't know about Hillary, but I'm sticking with Obama for all the right reasons, not the least of which is that he saved the economy, the auto industry, killed bin laden, and gave us Obamacare, at long last.
The Crawford VIllage Idiot sent people's family members off to die fighting a country that hadn't done jack squat to us, but you all rather moan and b-tch about your crappy so-called insurance plans being cancelled because they sucked.
    So be it.

Good day for dittoheads to back away from the radio dial for Boss Hogg. NCAA championship game is on tonite. Why not tune into sporting news radio. Those hosts truly know what they're talking about and have background and ecpertise in the subjects to which they speak.

So, for a lousy 2.4%, Obama created chaos in the health insurance industry,

Hey Henry- it was just for "a lousy 2.4%". It was for the real-live people that the 2.4% represents- the GOP keeps forgetting about the people who live in our great nation who are affected by their anti-social policies- and that my friend will be the GOP's ultimate downfall.

You have no far sight. Wait until all of Obama's promises are broken, wait until you pay an income tax on your company provided healthcare, or wait until companies drop healthcare, and pay the penalty. Is the company penalty per worker going to help offset your cost, or is it going to go to someone else, and you end up losing the benefit. The whole truth of this is down the road, this is only the beginning.

Henry – If you did not have junk insurance, you would have been unaffected like 275 million of us.
    --

We can add this massive lie as one of the many the lefty Democrats and Obama have told to the American people. The millions of people who had individual healthcare coverage were people who could afford THE BEST policies. What made them illegal was Obamacare that demand that these policies now force coverage for healthcare procedures that the person was not even physically capable of using. The only junk involved was the junk regulations of Obamacare that rendered them bon-complaint and thus illegal.

    Interesting notes:
When the numbers were not so good for the enrollments the righties were gleeful and accepted those numbers without question. Now that the goals has been met (and they have been lying daily to the American people about this) all of the sudden the 'numbers are cooked' (despite this being verified by outside sources).
Oh... how awful it must be to live in the bubble when the bubble gets popped... What!?!?! Obamacare is working!!?!?!? But.,... but... but...
What!?!!?!? romney didn't win the election?!?!?!/ But... but... but...
What!?!?! Torture didn't work?!!?! But.,... but... but...
Not too mention how awful it is for the gubmint to make you buy insurance and pay your own way (WHAT!?!?! personal responsibility!?!?!), however it is perfectly legitimate for the government to place barriers in place to cause folks to have pay for their Constitutional right to vote.

    The bubble....

Why is it that a good day for Americans is such a bad day for republicans?
-------------------------------------------------Without fail, it's been like this for the past 6 years.
What on earth is THAT about?
Everything, from the economy slowly recuperating to bin laden being tossed into the sea, to Americans finally getting affordable healthcare and not being turned down due to pre-existing conditions or reaching lifetime caps.
    It is uncanny, and un-American.

15.6% of 325,000,000 is STILL 50,700,000 people UNINSURED!! Where is this stampede of everybody that needs healthcare coverage? This is a total joke, a farce, a FRAUD, yet ANOTHER manufactured crisis by the far left Democrats to be used as a justification to take over the healthcare industry.
    --------–
"manufactured crisis"? The Dems are cheering that the ACA is starting to work. I think that the manufactured crisis might be inside your head. How is it that GOP has been crying "crisis" and doom from the start. Now that it seems no so, the Dems have manufactured it? As I say, back on my planet, the Dems are celebrating.

    Would You Look at That
15.6% of Americans (approximately 54.6 million people) don't have insurance. Nearly 8x as many people can't afford the "affordable" care act than those who signed up for it (I'm being generous and letting the 7 million figure stand because a large percentage of these people were already covered under medicaid and simply renewed their coverage, and about 15-20% of those who did sign up, have yet to enroll i.e. pay their first premium). What a disaster.

Please actually read the article it states:
The health care law also includes expanded Medicaid insurance for the poor in many states, but those participants are not part of the sign-up total.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

Obama care is an unmitigated FAIL.

I know a woman who signed up, thought she was covered, but when she went to the doctor and found out
it did not cover her rather important cataract surgery, she understood - as many will eventually– that the program was just another Obama lie.

@Tampa Tim..."You should still have your junk policy. If not, complain to your insurance company."
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The junk policy I refer to was the first PCIP plan offered under the ACA...it went under. The provider was smart enough to see the writing on the wall, although they're still in business. A 2K deductible went to 4K, not eligible for medicaid or subsidies. The GOV offered the plan. See? Everyone but democrats can see the writing on the wall.
And my favorite part? The IRS lost over 100 million, and the coverage went from 80/20 to 70/30, so brace yourselves.
