Beau Biden says he plans to run for governor in Delaware

(CNN) – Beau Biden said Thursday he won't seek re-election this year as Delaware attorney general and plans instead to run for governor in 2016.

"Over the past few months, as I've been planning to run for reelection, I have also been giving a great deal of thought to running for Governor in 2016," he said in a statement. "What started as a thought-a very persistent thought-has now become a course of action that I wish to pursue."

Beau Biden, 45, is Vice President Joe Biden's eldest son. He was elected as Delaware attorney general in 2006.

"After careful consideration, I have concluded that it is not right to ask for your support in 2014, knowing that my focus would be divided between doing my job as Attorney General while at the same time running as a candidate for Governor," he said.

Questions have been raised about his health, however, since he underwent a procedure in August at a Houston hospital after feeling weak and disoriented on a family vacation. He made few public appearances in the months following the procedure.

In 2010, he suffered what doctors said was a mild stroke. His speech and motor skills were not affected.

His announcement Thursday came only in written form - sent out in an email to supporters and posted to his website. He did not hold a press conference, and he has not spoken publicly about his decision in an interview.

He served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard. Biden acted as a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2002.

He and his wife, Hallie, have two children.

CNN's Dana Davidsen, Steve Brusk, and Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

Not quite sure he shares the same stupid gene his dad or the voters in that State share. Might be tough? Nah! Stupid is as stupid does.

Annie Mouse – if you take New Jersey under republican leadership, third on the list for highest income tax, then add their property tax, you arrive near the top. Wisconsin under Walker is not far behind.

    Tom Paine:

"God bless the GOP for gutting property taxes in CA and then encouraging " fees" to be attached on everything that moves within the state for putting them in the hole in the first place."

I for one wish Pawlenty would have gutted property taxes in MN prior to attaching "fees" to everything in sight. It would have given us a bit of reprieve before having our property taxes raised year after year since his "fee" reign (and increased debt) hit us so deep.

As it is, we now enjoy both high property taxes AND unlimited fees courtesy of Timothy Pawlenty and his fiscal conservatism dogma.

Why? Why do we allow these political dynasties? Just because they are the child/wife/husband/cat of a politician, does not grant them any superior skills or knowledge of others. There are over 300 million people in this country and these are the best we can come up with? Why does the left want another Clinton in the White House when there are so many other chices? (Granted, the last Clinton, even with his pats down was a better one then the current) Why does the right want another Bush in the White House when there are so many other choices? The last one wasn't exactly good by any means. Why do we punish ourselves by limiting our choices to a few families out of the 10's of millions in the country? It is the new royalty of the world and it is pathetic.

"He was an army captain attorney; who stayed in the rear with the gear; remf; and another overpaid job ..........just like his dad........live off the taxpayers......do nothing; just walk around and smile."

    You're belittling his service? Nice.

    O'drama ya Mama
I can agree that Obama was maybe not ready to be the leader of the free world. More experience would have definitely helped. But here is where I see a major hypocrisy. How can you run 3 inexperienced guys after complaining about the lack in experience in our current President? You backed yourself into a corner with that one.
    ---

In a corner? Hardly. Democrats and Obama have proven you don't need to have experienced or competentto be the President of the country. It appears on the job training is acceptable for a large segment of our reality TV based electorate. Competence and experience is not as impoartant as good telepromper speeches and selfies.

Therefore we will adjust to the new, much lowered bar the Democrats use.

Would that be the same bar that was used when nearly 60 million of our "reality TV based electorate" seemed to think that a certain half term Governor of one of our least populated states had the credentials to be second in line to the most powerful position on the planet?

And yet she had more Executive experience, experience actually RUNNING a government, than BOTH Obama and Biden COMBINED. They had ZERO executive experience. And it shows, every single day.

But the low ID Democrat electorate went with the reality TV buffoon duo.

Great! Let's hope Christine "I am not a witch" " O'Donnell runs against him. The Democrats desperately need a new generation of viable candidates and it looks like some are starting to emerge.

A legacy candidate and another lawyer. Just what America needs. And since he was one of the less than 1% who have been in the government's employ in the military, we should ignore the fact that he's had a stroke and give him the football eh Dems?

The right wingnuts say they are not racist, they just disagree with Obama's policies. They are opposed to Obama cutting the deficit, ending two wars, saving the auto and housing industries, raising the minimum wag, allowing people with pre existing conditions to have health insurance, keep the government out of women's reproduction, equal pay for equal work, keeping social security and Medicare solvent, keep regulations so we do not have to bail out banks again, build a coalition of countries to deal with Russian aggression, remove Syria's chemical weapons, give Iran a chance to dump their nuclear program, wait, there is more.
