Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

Harry Reid shows once again he is in his own little world. Again he claims Bundy doesn't pay his taxes. Is Harry getting secret info the IRS shouldn't be passing since Bundy claims to have paid all his taxes. So Harry, explain to us why your son is out making a very visible presence and now you are out calling terrorists again, while the BLM treats the desert tortoise differently whether you are a rancher or a builder who supports you?

Bundy and his clan are a bunch of freeloading squatters. They terrorized the Americans who were just doing their job and enforcing our Constitution and laws. I'd take a hundred tax paying immigrants over Bundy' s freeloading butt any day of the week.

So weird that Reid would make this comment. I mean I wonder if he has any personal stake in this. Oooohhhh yeah, that's right. He has a "relationship" with a Chinese energy company. Interesting.

And Reid is absolutely correct. I think Americans have more to fear from the domestic terrorists than we do the foreign ones.

It's not just that he thumbs his nose at authority, it's that he thumbs his nose at our Constitution and our laws. He is the very definition of a thug.

No, they were protesters. This is what came of that stupid patriot act and the terrorism scare. Civil libertarians have been warning against this for a while. Time to write your congressmen, do NOT let this go unpunished. This is from a Democrat too. Americans, unite against this please!

There is not a better example of domestic terrorism than Harry Reid and the senate democrats. They all need to be removed and replaced.

The Bundy ranch invasion was Reid's doing. He just broke ground for another Chinese solar farm only 35 miles away and Reid had to regain face when confronted by a group of patriots standing up to gestapo BLM actions over recent months. It is understandable that Reid is taking it personally as it will cut into9 his Chinese stipend later. And emperor Obama was looking at a diminished future as well. The whole crooked lot of Clintonesk legislators infested in Congress has spelled doom for the personal freedoms in this country and they continue to wreck destruction on our morals, monies and rights.
The only terrorists are in the congress and they are more deadly than those on the outside. Reid is the head terrorist in the Senate and Pelosi the House.

Wrong Mr.Reid. These are US citizens exercising the right of free speech, just like the Occupy Wall Street folks were considered patriots by the left.

Hey Senator .. I don't suppose all this indignation at one guy and his cows has anything to do with that big Chinese solar deal you're working on the side, does it?

This is so wrong. Even as a Democrat, we need to speak out against this.

This man sold out his own country. To make money with the Chinese.
Harry Reid is a worm. In the old West they'd hang him in front of the courthouse for being a liar and traitor to his people. These days we have no concept of treason. Our schools and colleges made sure of that for the last 20-30 years.

Terrorist, Racist, bigots, terms easily thrown by the Dems at people that disagree with their point of view. They have diluted the meaning of the terms.
