Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

Funny how some people can be so hypocritical. If this Bundy character and his supporters were a bunch of people peacefully sitting in front of a court house protesting something like climate change, income inequality, illegal activities on Wall Street etc. etc. many of the same people who are defending this "John Wayne" wannabe (Bundy) and his gang of cowboys would be calling the protesters scum, unpatriotic, unholy terrorists etc. etc. Calling for them all to be tazed, jailed, shot etc..... Regardless of what the issues at hand are, Bundy is breaking a LAW. He's been breaking a LAW for several years, he has repeatedly ignored efforts by authorities to resolve the issue(s) and knowingly and willingly continued to break a LAW. If the law is bad, unfair, or what ever you take it to the judicial system and get it changed or worked out somehow. You don't just ignore it and disobey it. And then when the authorities finally come to enforce the LAW you call upon a bunch of self-proclaimed "patriots" who are on the brink of revolution to begin with (for any number of reasons) to come play Rambo under the disguise of God fearing, Patriotic, Constitution fighting heroes.

So this rancher is in litigation with the government for over 20 years, apparently the governments case is very weak, or he would have been ordered to pay the NEW GRAZING fees. Now comes Harry Reid who will make millions on a Chinese deal and wants him off, this has nothing to do with paying fees.
In the same context it would be nice if Warren Buffett's company would pay their taxes owed (more than a million) and not drag it out for years. Or how about Maxine Waters (D-CA) who has been under ethics investigation for years, and Queen Pelosi just puts it off. I believe Harry Reid has money in the Caymans which he has not paid taxes off.
Someone on this post talks about American Indians, the US Bureau of Indian Affairs in DC does not believe American natives are smart enough to govern themselves, by giving them just enough to barely survive on the RESERVATIONS.

reid is similar to the stuff that is expelled from the back of a cow, and ends up on the ground, good for fertilizer, and nothing else! His mind dropped into senility many years ago, and he's propped up by handlers! No one could be as stupid as he is and continue to hold a job! Just goes to show the level of intelligence of the voters in Nevada!
Shame on Nevada for letting him buy his way into office!!!

Now if only we could get Harry to tell the truth about SOMETHING! The man clearly doesn't have a close relationship with the truth.

If I recall correctly, Harry and his ilk support terrorism in the form of Al Qaeda in Syria, do they not? They funneld weapons and money there, they admit to that. In other words our politicians get to decide who is and who is not a terrorist depending on their very own agendas.
But I'm sure some of you will still side with Reid on this one, no, you will side with everything Reid because you have to justify in your head the reasoning for supporting the criminal via your votes.

"are you guys kidding me right now? for a family that has been ranching for hundreds of years and has been using that land they now owe the government overdue grazing fees? how can the government, first of all, come in and just say that land is theirs when it wasnt theirs to begin with? i would say no. government over reaching. secondly..... kind of odd that harry reids old advisor is the head of the BLM. and they are makign land grabs in more than one place. its not about grazing fees. its about having land for the solor energy. you cant just come in and say something is yours and make someone owe you money. thats crap. this whole news story is against bundy. what about the government? it needs to stop."

The federal government has ALWAYS owned the land in question, since before Nevada became a state. Nevada was a territory completely owned and under the control of the federal government until statehood in 1864. Even after statehood, the federal government owned (and still owns) huge tracts of land in the state. That's why nuclear testing was done in Nevada... the feds didn't have to ask permission to use the empty areas because it was already theirs. 80% of Nevada is owned by the federal government.

Bundy is tresspassing on federal land that has ALWAYS been federal land since the land because a territory of the US. The state recognizes that it's federal land. The feds for 20 years have been asking Bundy to stop tresspassing but he's refused.

I have NO sympathy for this guy.

Harry Reid violated Federal law by funneling campaign money to his grand daughter while at the same time using it to lavish gifts on donors. I guess if people attempting to exercise their rights to assembly and speech are terrorists, this must make Reid the anti-christ.

Quite obviously Mr Reid misunderstands what the word terrorist or terrorism means. By his definition EVERY occupy protestor a few years ago is a terrorist. Seems when people express outrage about the unlawful and unconstitutional exercise of state power and seek to defend their life liberty and property, they are terrorists.

When a pack of scruffy communists, dirty hippies and their mobbed up union allies seek to disrupt commerce and threaten or destroy private property they are simply exercising frustration.

It was only due to the presence of new media that the feds were forced to back down. Had there not been independent witnesses, another waco could and would have probably occured. Glad it did not. But no person shall be denied life liberty or property except by due process of law. Some bureaucrat's signature does not constitute due process in a democratic society. Perhaps in a 'peoples' democracy like the occupy people want to see, but not here and not as long as there are proper patriots like the people who stood up to be counted in bunkerville!

Finally someone in the government has the guts to call those "patriots" what they really are. Now the question is does the government have the guts to deal with them and their allies? Or will the government ignore the problem and let it get worse.

So by Reid's theory then i guess the Boston tea party was a act of terror then...If you can't fix unjust rules and regulations through peaceful solution what else are you to do? I can't say i condone what is going on because i don't have all the facts-just what is reported in the news.I will say when is the reach of Government to much? *disclaimer* I AM NOT A ADVOCATE OF VIOLENCE OR AM SAYING ITS OK TO GO TO WAR WITH THE GOVERNMENT!

You mean people stepping up to stop Reid from selling US land to Chinese venture groups to net him a large personal profit is domestic terrorism now? And here I thought abuse of office was unpatriotic.

The rancher has repeatedly said that he will pay the state who owns the land fees. The BLM has no legal right to try and put the ranchers out of business (which it is trying to do) and Harry Reid has no right to sell the use of the land that does not belong to him. Reid should get a nice long holiday in the federal pen for his actions... but I'm not holding my breath.

So, don't round up his cattle, just round up him. Let him sit in jail until he agrees to obey the laws of the United States.

it would be different if this guys family hadn't been using this land since 1800's. then the government comes in changes the rules so it benefits them in the way of revenue, they could care less about those turtles. yes the rancher is wrong if he is not paying taxes but at the sametime he is the last rancher standing in this area. I am sure there is a hidden agenda for this area.

I am sure that Harry's real reason that he is so angry is that it brought to light all of his land development plots and his shady dealings....why DOES Nevada keep reelecting this crook?

Sen. Reid proves once again just how out of touch he is with the American people. Please, please Nevada: Vote Reid out of office and send a senator to Washington who UNDERSTANDS the Constitution and works to PROTECT our liberties and defend us from the clawing, voracious federal government.
