Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

    Anyone siding with the government in this case is a terrorist. BLM must purchase the cattle due to their own laws yet they insist on stealing and murdering the cattle in the middle of the night for the past 20 years. Harry Reid is right, BLM is a terrorist organization.

    So, are the OWS people terroists as well? The destroyed property, raped, killed, and fought the police. But Reid and Polosi said that they (OWS) were one of them. The people behind Bundy didn't hurt anyone but the U.S. pointed their guns at children. Why didn't Reid do the same thing to the OWS people? Also, Major Hassan is only listed as "Workplace violence" by Reid and Obama. Hassan was in contact with the terrorists overseas and he murdered many of our troops but Reid says nothing about him. It seems this says a lot about Reid.

    All of those that are demanding Bundy pay up or be shot and burnt out of his home should also demand the same thing from Al Sharpton who owes over a million dollars in back taxes.

    Some one should follow the money. I imagine it will lead to Reid and his supporters. And talking to Eric Holder about law enforcement is laughable. When in the course of human events..........................

    There were indeed domestic terrorists near Bunkerville, Nevada and it was the federal thugs who showed up armed with assault weapons and sniper rifles. Those thugs destroyed water lines, destroyed water tanks, destroyed troughs, destroyed corrals, and destroyed fences. They killed about 40 cattle. They threw a 57-year-old woman recovering from cancer down to the ground. They attacked a pregnant woman with a K-9. They created an unconstitutional free speech zone. Who were the real aggressors and “domestic terrorists” in this situation? Harry Reid is a disgrace and should be ashamed of himself for calling the people that stood up to the federal thugs “domestic terrorists”. Harry Reid is traitor for standing with the federal thugs and not the people of Nevada that he supposedly represents. He should resign immediately.

    Bundy needs to pay his fees to run his cattle on federal lands or remove those cattle from said land, it is the land of all American citizens, and Bundy is no more special (or entitled) than a company that is charged for a lease to drill, mine on federal lands, or for a citizen who wants to camp on federal lands. Those who support Bundy's illegal actions are domestic terrorist. Harry has it right.

    Sounds pretty accurate. All terrorists cast themselves as supporting traditional values and so on. Then they start carrying guns around, threatening people, and just in general putting themselves above the law.

    ANYBODY who votes for this idiot must be a domestic terrorist! HE exemplifies why term limits are needed in all branches of government.

    Harry Reid cut his deal with a Chinese company, ENN, to build a solar farm that his son, Rory Reid, was the broker and representative for the Chinese company. Neil Kornze, Harry Reid's former Cheif Advisor, is now head of the Bureau of Land Management, the Government entity brought in to seize the cattle of and evict Cliven Bundy from this land under the questionable pretense of saving a desert tortise and collecting revenue. There is no conflict of interest here is there? Calling these people terrorists is the pot calling the kettle black. Harry Reid is as un-American ias it gets, stomping the Constitution daily and deceiving his constituents. Shame on you Harry.

    It's 330,000 acres. Already poachers are shooting his cattle, watering tanks, cutting fences, likely butchering some of the beef. Not much Bundy can do about that, and no one he can complain to. Without the protection of the Federals, he's on his own. Oh! almost forgot, he's having trouble getting equipment in now that no one's maintain the roads, and even if he could truck some of the cattle out, no auction house is willing to sell them due to the liability issue. In fact, the Gov. of Utah issued orders to not allow any Bundy cattle to cross into his State.

    Add "terrorist" or "terrorism" to anything to scare people.

    I guess America's founding fathers were terrorists.

    "He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.” Funny thing is, Mr. Reid I can name quite a few politicians who have done the same thing, lets start with Sen Charles Rangel from NY and John Dolittle from CA. The list is way to long to publish here, What are your plans for them? Same out rhetoric as the past. Blah Blah Blah and nothing is done.

    Not only should they make Bundy pay, but they need to bill him for all of the costs associated with the seizure, the cost of the cops, and everything. Why should he have his hand in my pocket?

    Get up stand up... Stand up for your rights! Ever wonder why they have only find him for 20 years...

    ++++++++++++++++++++

    No, because the fact of the matter is he paid those fees UNTIL 20 years ago. Why would they "find" him when he was doing the right thing? Perhaps you should try following your own advice and "do some real research!"

    What was cleverly omitted from this article is the fact that Mr.Bundy's family has been ranching on that land and paying grazing fees since the 1870s!

    +++++++++++++++++++++

    Yeah, so? Who in their right mind would permit tenants who paid their rent for years to just suddenly stop paying and continue living for free?

    Al Sharpton owes one million dollars in back taxes but does anyone call him a domestic terrorist or thumbs his nose at the feds? I think they should, he race baits and stirs up conflict everywhere, so I would challenge Reid to call him out on it. Keep dreaming I guess huh?

    Since 1993 the farmer has refused to renew his grazing permit under the grounds that the money shouldn't be going to the federal government as his contract as a producer is with the state not the federal government.

    “I’m a producer,” Cliven said. “I produce edible commodity from the desert forage, and all of these things are governed under state law. So, in other words, this type of government has eliminated all of our state law, eliminated our state sovereignty, and has took control over our public lands and even took control over our Clark County sheriff. They’ve taken the whole county over. The whole state, almost.”

    +++++++++++++++++++++

    But you're producing that edible commodity on property that doesn't belong to you – AND you're making a profit from doing so. Get back to us when you're giving away 100% of your product for free to the taxpayers who OWN that land!

    Could you someone please explain the claims of the land this rancher has been using for grazing being promised to the Chinese? If this is true, was it passed by Congress, or was it done in the executive branch? A few facts would be nice, because if this is simply about him paying for grazing rights on Federal lands I don't see how anyone can complain about that. What else is involved here?
