What made Nevada rancher fight the feds?

Washington (CNN) – When the Bureau of Land Management retreated from a standoff with Cliven Bundy, a few hundred people traveled to his Nevada ranch to protest what they see as an overreach of the federal government.

One protester from neighboring Utah, Stephen L. Dean, 45, called the Bureau of Land Management's actions "tyranny in government." And a banner at the protest site blared: "Has the West been won? Or has the fight just begun!"

As a taxpayer, I want this dead beat welfare abuser to get his cattle off my land, and pay his fines.

"To an East Coast dweller, the concept of public lands can be a foreign one, as people own or rent their plot of space in urban, suburban and commuter towns that crowd the Eastern Seaboard."

Good job with the grossly inaccurate generalizations. Truly. The concept of public land is well understood all over the east coast and many other areas where development density is extremely high and you have states and municipalities land banking via eminent domain in order to "preserve the town's character" and fight "urban sprawl"...taking land for conservation or public parks or street widenings or the Big Dig or extension of the subway system (Green Line Extension) etc. Sure, it may be an understanding from a bit of a different angle, but your claim is unfounded and ridiculous and just a play to the stereotypes about geographical divisions that underlie much of the South's and the Midwest's irrational resentment towards East Coast folks. Sloppy, pandering, juvenile reporting.

The American way.........as opposed to simply caving in to the government thugs, who were lying about why they were attacking the rancher in the first place.

Of course, because CNN is a PARTISAN Dem controlled media........they did not report the real reasons behind all of that. You had to get that news elsewhere.

I want to see this guy grazing on fish sticks and peas in a federal prison. It's where he belongs.

Everyone is subject to the laws of land. My question is why wasn`t this enforced for the begining? Whats the deal with the eco group and the turtles?

The best part? They'll probably end up taking his land to satisfy judgments against him, because I seriously doubt he's got millions just sitting around in a bank account that can be reached and applied to all the fees/rent and fines he's racked up for over 20+ years during his "the social contract doesn't apply to me" temper tantrum.

OK Rick, funny post, now go back to your room. I am not surprised that you would take the side of a something for nothing dead beat welfare abusing rancher. Birds of a feather?

I think it does Malory. Which park do you want, personally I want to shower in the White House everyday and sleep on the sofa in the Oval Office. Do you think I'm asking too much?

Sniffit – He appears to have a future on Fox News after he loses his land. He could be Hannity's expert on constitutional law.

Heck, Obama and the Democrat make up and changes laws as they go, refuses to enforce many laws. refuse to enforce our immigration laws, so what is the big deal. This guy is trying to make a living. His family was using the lands for over a century. Is he just supposed to go away and starve? They want to drive him OFF the land he has been using. Notice he hasn't paid FINES, not grazing fees.

Frankly, the US government has no business owning 87% of the land in Nevada and half of California. They should start divesting themselves of this land and selling to American citizens for productive use. Protect what needs to be protected in National Parks but the rest should NOT be owned by the government.

I love how this guy is a domestic terrorist yet major Nadal Hassan isn't. I get more terrified of our government every day. How is this Harry Reid's issue? Talk about a bully.

It – When did republicans begin caring if a person starves? You righties cheer that food stamps for veterans are cut, you cheer when poor children go to bed hungry, you laugh that many veterans are homeless, you smile when the GOP cuts social security and Medicare, but when a dead beat rancher refuses to pay for using our land, you are upset?

I love the Liberals try and say that they want this guy to pay taxes. It's so funny and ironic how when someone doesn't agree with their political position then they freak out about taxes. Yet 50% of Americans pay no taxes at all and that doesn't bother them

Thanks you for your extensive explanation about why I'm wrong. A simple declaration from the left is all that is expected I guess.

The federal government is also starving California of water for their crops during the drought. They just don't give a damn about the average guy on the farm or ranch trying to scrape out a living. To the leftes, that is just craziness because they would be much better off as government dependents on welfare.

    Tampa,
I'm sure you're aware that Republicans donate far more money than Democrats. So they do care they want to make it personal you want to run it through the government

  23. just asking

48 government agencies with swat teams??? unfreakin' believeable!! i doubt the old soviet union had that many people ready to use against its own people. how many people is the federal government paying for this? sounds like another case of the 50 different job training programs. there should be one place to call for a federal swat team if you need one.

    Tampa,
Actually I'm referring to the militia of a government agency. No shots were fired by any of the ranchers. However A guy opens fire at Fort Hood and yells Allah Akbar Yet that's not terrorism
