(CNN) – Sen. John Boozman, R-Arkansas, experienced an aortic aneurysm and underwent surgery Tuesday morning, according to a source familiar with the senator's condition.
The senator started feeling sick Monday night, and he and his wife canceled their plans, the source said. As his symptoms worsened, he went to the hospital, where the surgery appeared to be a success.
"So far, so good," said the source.
His office confirmed that he had surgery at an Arkansas hospital and is "receiving excellent care," but did not disclose any more information about the procedure.
Boozman was scheduled to have breakfast with mayors in Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday and was set to appear at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement wishing his colleague well as he recovers from surgery.
"We’re glad to hear that John is doing well and we all look forward to having him back at work," the Kentucky Republican said.
"He is a fantastic Senator and a tireless advocate for Arkansas and the people he so proudly represents.”
CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash and CNN Senior Congressional Producer Ted Barrett contributed to this report.
He can talk the talk but will he walk the walk? Republicans pride themselves as being personally responsible. I hope he was responsible enough to save up enough money because if it turns out a single dime of tax payer money is helping this guy he is going to look pretty stu pid.
Either way I wont let politics get in the way of me wishing him a speedy recovery!
Thanks to obamacare, he is getting the care he needs. I wish him well.
Are they looking for his brain or his heart? Seriously though I hope he'll be ok.
--get well soon. Say thanks to Obamacare which covers your bills.
sounds like a medical emergency so good thing he was close to a hospital. unfortunately many of those getting obamacare coverage may not be close to their hospital when they need it. but one thing is for sure, their very high deductible will still need to be paid before their coverage kicks in. then they will find out that their obamacare coverage is just catastropic coverage, formerly known as junk plans by the left.

Rumor has it it was a brain embolism, but they had to bring in a proctologist first to find his head in order to complete the operation.
All kidding aside... I wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully this will open his eyes to the needs of the uninsured.
Get better soon! At least you have health insurance....
Too bad he wants to keep average Americans from getting access to the same "excellent care" he has access to by continuing to vote against Obamacare.
Do the Liberals on here honestly think that the only reason this guy is getting healthcare is due to the ACA?? Nothing says more about how much they look to the govt for everything based on their comments.
Abiding by the laws of good conduct, one should never kick another when one is down. Get well.
Many republicans will have aneurysm because of President Obama's successes they've tried everything and it never worked so they are stressing themselves to where they become sick.
Get well soon, sir.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
