Palin: ‘Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists’

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a capacity crowd at a National Rifle Association rally how she would baptize terrorists if she was an elected official.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who ran against then Sen.-Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, with Palin as his running mate, has spoken out against waterboarding, calling it illegal and ineffective. During the Vietnam War, McCain endured years of torture and imprisonment as a prisoner of war under the North Vietnamese.

In her speech, Palin also said the Washington insiders who called the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood a case of workplace violence “don’t know what is right.” That shooting was carried out by Maj. Nidal Hassan.

“Not when that evil Muslim terrorist Major Hassan massacres his fellow military soldiers at Fort Hood,” she said.

Characterizing Hassan, “that devil” as a ‘disgruntled employee,’” is hypocritical, said Palin.

Palin called liberals hypocrites for their stance on issues varying from gun control to torture at the NRA event that was part of the organization’s 2014 convention.

But she backtracked later, saying, “Not all intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals are hypocrites.”

“I’m kidding,” she said. “Yes, they are.”

Palin told the crowd that “guys like” Sen. Al Franken and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “are not satisfied with just taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare. Those Democrats trying to get all ‘Pelosi’ on ya, and you’re not gonna have it!” she said, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Palin accused the Democrats of pursuing “policies that poke our allies in the eye and coddle adversaries instead of putting the fear of God in our enemies.”

She ended her speech by telling the crowd that the bracelet she wears celebrates the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791.

“It’s why we’re here, to celebrate and confirm that solemn oath to liberty,” she said.

Hypocritical!? Yeah here's a good on..... conservatives and Republicans complaining about cutting the budget and increased spending, and less federal gov't influence and then wanting fed money for natural disasters and wanting to spend money to send troops into Syria, Egypt and Ukraine.

The left wing hate speech that I receive on discussion boards such as this one are FAR WORSE than what Sarah Palin said.

    There's definitely a double standard. That's why I'm no longer a Liberal.

She will say anything, and I mean anything, to get media attention. Her appearance at the NRA and her 'waterboarding' remark were designed only to satisfy her insatiable ego.

When Republicans see comment boards overwhelmingly against their own, they blame the media. Media did it! Media did it! So where is the right wing media (Rush) and all of its power (losing sponsors)? Palin's only strength is that she's quite good at rhetoric.

What a "SICK SARAH" this woman is. Justice will be God's when she tries to enter His Kingdom and He informs her how IGNORANT she was ... and how she completely mis-understood HIS message ... and the US Constitution's message ... all for her self-gain.

People like her and Paul Ryan have ruined the Republican party. I doubt you'll see a Republican president ever again. When Texas becomes a blue state in 2020, it's over for the racist Republican party. The teabaggers, Ryans, and Busheees have ruined the Republican party forever.

@cribbooky, the idea that the Left fears Palin because of a supposed threat to " their way of life ( leeching basically)" is laughable. Palin comes from a state that depends upon the Federal government more than almost any other. They receive almost $2 for every $1 they send to DC, they are the rape capital of the US, and you think we are afraid of a woman who has been nothing more than a leech and a mooch since being plucked from obscurity 6 years ago? Please. What is truly funny is that you defend this perpetual almost-candidate who lacks a common sense and tact filter as a font of wisdom and a truth barometer. BTW, do you still have your blow-up doll of Palin, or did you wear it out? @Brad, since your have declared Obama to be a disaster, which intellectual midget on the Right do you see as his replacement? How much has your 401K grown since Obama took office? Bet it looks pretty damn good compared to when he took the oath for the first time. I doubt Palin could spell 401K.

Too bad Sarah can't be waterboarded just once , but it would probably drown her , because she never knows when to keep her mouth shut .

Remember ...this is the woman who put cross-hairs on Gabby Gifford on her Political Map .. and shortly thereafter ... Gabby was shot and another man was killed. How can anyone follow this nutcase ... she is the one who should be arrested for insitful behavior.

As a Canadian I just love watching American politics. My thoughts go out to everyone out there with a brain, a heart, a sense of decency and a sense of humour...in other words a true Democrat. Not hard to guess that 'folks' like Cliven Bundy, Donald Sterling, Ted Nugent and good 'ol mama bear Sarah (oh, and papa bear Bill O'Reilly) are some of the Rupublicans finest. Can't agree more with Joe above...what ever happened to the true GOP.

    Greg says "Irresponsible!"

So what she should've said was "I'm sorry, terrorists. It is America's fault that you hate us so much. From now on, whenever you attack us, we will give you full due process even though you are a war criminal. We will give you shelter in a Federal Hilton prison where you can enjoy foods from all food groups, all gluten-free food and free from anything that might offend your religious preferences. You will also be pleased to know that you will enjoy recreational activities such as outdoor gardening and racquetball. We are thrilled to have you here! Thanks for attacking us. Enjoy your stay at the expense of your victims' tax dollars!".

    Is that more responsible?

If I knew I had a terrorist with information and they were under my control, I would probably torture them for information. At least, things like waterboarding and especially if someone else could do the dirty work for me. Everyone has their limits, and some torture is "worse" than others. Better yet is information through the use of drugs.

The world is an evil place, and dangerous. Sometimes you need people to do...what needs to be done. If people want to kill us, we need information about what they are planning, who, when, and how. The pain inflicted on the terrorist may save many lives.

And I don't mind Palin, but this sort of thing is not something you want to discuss in public.

Unfortunately she is right. Baptist those heathens. When the second coming happens they might get lucky and get in if they repent in time and acknowledge Jesus as their TRUE savior. The USA is a Christian nation. All public officials should swear their allegiance to God the Father and his only Son Jesus Christ. I'm tired of people saying we need less religion in politics. It's the lack of religion that's the problem, not the other way around. Let other religions run other things like entertainment or banking, but leave the government to Christians. Preferably European heritage. God please you Sarah!
