Palin: ‘Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists’

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a capacity crowd at a National Rifle Association rally how she would baptize terrorists if she was an elected official.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who ran against then Sen.-Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, with Palin as his running mate, has spoken out against waterboarding, calling it illegal and ineffective. During the Vietnam War, McCain endured years of torture and imprisonment as a prisoner of war under the North Vietnamese.

In her speech, Palin also said the Washington insiders who called the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood a case of workplace violence “don’t know what is right.” That shooting was carried out by Maj. Nidal Hassan.

“Not when that evil Muslim terrorist Major Hassan massacres his fellow military soldiers at Fort Hood,” she said.

Characterizing Hassan, “that devil” as a ‘disgruntled employee,’” is hypocritical, said Palin.

Palin called liberals hypocrites for their stance on issues varying from gun control to torture at the NRA event that was part of the organization’s 2014 convention.

But she backtracked later, saying, “Not all intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals are hypocrites.”

“I’m kidding,” she said. “Yes, they are.”

Palin told the crowd that “guys like” Sen. Al Franken and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “are not satisfied with just taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare. Those Democrats trying to get all ‘Pelosi’ on ya, and you’re not gonna have it!” she said, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Palin accused the Democrats of pursuing “policies that poke our allies in the eye and coddle adversaries instead of putting the fear of God in our enemies.”

She ended her speech by telling the crowd that the bracelet she wears celebrates the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791.

“It’s why we’re here, to celebrate and confirm that solemn oath to liberty,” she said.

CNN – PLEASE STOP PUTTING HER OUT THERE. Do the country a service and stop giving her a platform. A screeching, hateful, divisive mouthpiece should be ignored – not published. She's the biggest mistake John McCain made and in doing so he lost my vote. For the love of whatever there is – PLEASE STOP, NO MORE PALIN – SHE CAUSES TO MUCH PAIN

    Force "baptism" is an oxymoron.
    Torture is not a sacrament.
Putting the fear of God in another is abuse.

    > Sometimes you need people to do...what needs to be done.

Sure. Not in the name of God. That is why she is lying and a hypocrite to boot.

If you are committed to be "what needs to be done" then you shouldn't sign up for God's plan, simple as that.

If you are going to be a murderer, that's fine, we need those people, but leave the people who simply do not believe in your imaginary friend out of it.

Show us some real evidence, besides "i'm close-minded and can't tolerate people who believe reality instead of my make believe."

If you want to wage a war on terrorism, fine. You can start with the religious nutcase in the mirror.

Eternal suffering for anyone who disobeys or simply does not agree to follow.

Willing to kill anyone who disagrees.

How is her so-called religion NOT terrorism?

Sara Palin, like the Clippers owner and Cliven Bundy are the worst of Americans. Claiming privilege over others as birthright, anti-intellectualism as patriotism and stupidity as the way to do business they define the new hard right. The market will banish these sorts over time and they will become, like plantation owners and industry bigwigs of the late 1800's bad footnotes.

"I'm sorry, terrorists. It is America's fault that you hate us so much. From now on, whenever you attack us, we will give you full due process even though you are a war criminal."

War criminals are entitled to due process and receive it at the International Criminal Court in Den Haag, Netherlands. It is an international standard. Were we to try any of these people in our own judicial system (or even via military tribunal), they would be entitled to it as well. The great failing of the Dubya administration was that Bin Laden did what he did to get America to abandon its own values and Dubya, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest did EXACTLY what bin Laden wanted them to. Why? Because idiots are predictable.

"We will give you shelter in a Federal Hilton prison where you can enjoy foods from all food groups, all gluten-free food and free from anything that might offend your religious preferences."

They would spend 23 hours a day in their 8' x 10' cell, just like the terrorist Moussoui does after we convicted him in a regular non-military court and sent him off to federal prison for a miserable, lonely life.

"You will also be pleased to know that you will enjoy recreational activities such as outdoor gardening and racquetball."

They would get one hour per day in the courtyard by themselves to do pretty much nothing (same as Moussoui).

This time Sarah really went off the deep end. Waterboarding is baptism? So, we are forcibly baptizing Muslims? That's rich! Welcome to the Middle Ages.

she said terrorists… I am fairly certain any family that has been the victim of terrorism would have no problem with the water boarding of a terrorist to prevent other family members from suffering at the hands of terror. don't forget, the victim, even if they survive a terror incident, is still the victim…and will be scarred and scared for life. that is their sentence…what is the terrorists?

    Ms. Palin,

Great, another dumb comment that does more harm than good.... ...all in the name of "scoring points" with those who support GWOT

The comment regarding Baptism, while made solely as "humor" in a figurative sense, will be taken by some (Muslims)as literal and will find that as offensive. Here's why – Your comment about Baptism is offensive to Muslims because it implies that they will be forced to convert. Think about it. How would Christians feel about a perceived (forced) "conversion" to Islam? Your comments will result in more individuals t choose Jihad in order to protect their faith. Granted, the move to Jihad will be done by some of the more ignorant masses who will not see the attempt at "humor", but it is still offensive to mainstream Muslims.

Her comment is no better than the reaction by Jihadists – ignorant, offensive, and dangerous with conseququences.

I serve in the military and am willing to fight, but her actions just make my way of life more difficult because me, and men/women like me, serve in regions where we are vulnerable.

    Thanks Sarah

What Sarah is saying doesn't make any logic at all. When christians are baptised it is the sign of wiping away their first sin. Calling waterboarding the same like baptising, means taking/cleansing away all sins terrorists made and automatically they become clean and no longer terrorists.
