Palin: ‘Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists’

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a capacity crowd at a National Rifle Association rally how she would baptize terrorists if she was an elected official.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who ran against then Sen.-Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, with Palin as his running mate, has spoken out against waterboarding, calling it illegal and ineffective. During the Vietnam War, McCain endured years of torture and imprisonment as a prisoner of war under the North Vietnamese.

In her speech, Palin also said the Washington insiders who called the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood a case of workplace violence “don’t know what is right.” That shooting was carried out by Maj. Nidal Hassan.

“Not when that evil Muslim terrorist Major Hassan massacres his fellow military soldiers at Fort Hood,” she said.

Characterizing Hassan, “that devil” as a ‘disgruntled employee,’” is hypocritical, said Palin.

Palin called liberals hypocrites for their stance on issues varying from gun control to torture at the NRA event that was part of the organization’s 2014 convention.

But she backtracked later, saying, “Not all intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals are hypocrites.”

“I’m kidding,” she said. “Yes, they are.”

Palin told the crowd that “guys like” Sen. Al Franken and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “are not satisfied with just taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare. Those Democrats trying to get all ‘Pelosi’ on ya, and you’re not gonna have it!” she said, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Palin accused the Democrats of pursuing “policies that poke our allies in the eye and coddle adversaries instead of putting the fear of God in our enemies.”

She ended her speech by telling the crowd that the bracelet she wears celebrates the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791.

“It’s why we’re here, to celebrate and confirm that solemn oath to liberty,” she said.

A Christian who can equate the sacrament of baptism with a barbaric form of torture is not a Christian, whatever self-righteous blather she emits. And a former vice-presidential candidate who talks of “baptizing” Muslim terror suspects through waterboarding is handing al Qaeda a propaganda coup on a platter.

Waterboarding is nowhere near as bad as being blown to bits by a drone-launched Helfire missile. What about those 200+ innocent Pakistani children murdered by obama's careless and indiscriminate drone attacks ???

Ridiculous, insulting, and shameful how those who have NEVER served in uniform make light of Torture. Palin is a disgrace, but a fine example of your average Republican.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

If Palin were in charge, all the terrorists would have to do is point behind her and say "Oh, my God! Would you look at that!" and then walk away as she spends the next 20 minutes looking the other way trying to figure out what they were pointing at.

...and pulling fingernails out is just a 'manicure.'

I had forgotten how nice it was not to hear from you, former Governor. Now you had to go and remind me that you can still get the press to waste precious paper and band-width.

For a Christian to suggest that the torture of another human being is the sacrament of baptism, the central rite of the blessing of God, is as far from Christianity as one can be. This is plain old evil.

This woman is NOT a Christian and the GOP should beg the nation's forgiveness for placing a person like her in a position to become President.

Not only does that make the U.S. look bad but just think of how bad Christianity looks because of what she said.

I am a moderate republican and I even wish Sarah Palin would just shut her idiotic mouth. She's almost as bad as a Kardashian. If she and Ted Cruz keep running their mouths, the republicans wont see any of their own taking the Oath of Office on the steps of the capitol on January 20th, 2017, or anytime soon for that matter.

That was a brilliant quote! Maybe Republicans should stop protecting Democrats and putting up with their hatred for the United States.

She is so stupid, it is embarrassing to think that she once ran for the office of Vice President. I'm sure John McCain regrets his decision every time she opens her big mouth.

WE are all of us born equal and at that time don't think we can be labeled anything other than alive and free.
So I agree Sarah the sadist, Sarah the republican despot and idiot and Non believer in international human rights.
Oh and by the way baptism is a Christian religious ritual so let's make sure we waterboard ( =baptise) all Islamic born children and all Christians.
If you don't agree what happened to freedom of religion and equal rights for all.
Torture is a crime against the Geneva convention babe and you wonder why America is losing international respect and power to influence other nations.... you are the epitomy of why!!
    Regards.

Her use of the public platform reminds me of Joe McCarthy. But she does have the pulse of the armpit of America.

That's not only inappropriate, it's also heretical and inflammatory.

What kind of a Christian would find that as anything but offensive and repugnant?

Based on her comments imply that anyone desirous of stricter gun control in the US are in favor or the first Ft. Hood shooting. That shooting, in and of itself, illustrates that it is too easy for one with malicious intent to obtain a firearm, in this country. Her logic is convoluted and hypocritical, but she is too stupid to see the hypocrisy in her statement. The intellectual deficit she demonstrates with that statement is exactly why she should never hold high public office, or be taken seriously.

All you Christian bashers.God is listening to every word you speak and you will one day have to give account for every word you speak and your hard hate filled words, I think Sarah is a smart woman and would make a strong leader. Ya lets impeach Obama and give her a shot. Coming July 1 Obamas new currency law goes into effect and will bring the crash of the dollar, I haven't heard him say anything about that but is being planned. No social security check, skyrocketing inflation is coming and will lead up to the antichrist appearing. BET pon it.
