Palin: ‘Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists’

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a capacity crowd at a National Rifle Association rally how she would baptize terrorists if she was an elected official.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who ran against then Sen.-Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, with Palin as his running mate, has spoken out against waterboarding, calling it illegal and ineffective. During the Vietnam War, McCain endured years of torture and imprisonment as a prisoner of war under the North Vietnamese.

In her speech, Palin also said the Washington insiders who called the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood a case of workplace violence “don’t know what is right.” That shooting was carried out by Maj. Nidal Hassan.

“Not when that evil Muslim terrorist Major Hassan massacres his fellow military soldiers at Fort Hood,” she said.

Characterizing Hassan, “that devil” as a ‘disgruntled employee,’” is hypocritical, said Palin.

Palin called liberals hypocrites for their stance on issues varying from gun control to torture at the NRA event that was part of the organization’s 2014 convention.

But she backtracked later, saying, “Not all intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals are hypocrites.”

“I’m kidding,” she said. “Yes, they are.”

Palin told the crowd that “guys like” Sen. Al Franken and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “are not satisfied with just taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare. Those Democrats trying to get all ‘Pelosi’ on ya, and you’re not gonna have it!” she said, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Palin accused the Democrats of pursuing “policies that poke our allies in the eye and coddle adversaries instead of putting the fear of God in our enemies.”

She ended her speech by telling the crowd that the bracelet she wears celebrates the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791.

“It’s why we’re here, to celebrate and confirm that solemn oath to liberty,” she said.

how the new nazis portrait themselves as "freedome fighters", it would be so funny, but If you hear Hitler speeches (or musolini or even Stalin) they resemble so much, actually almost alike some republican´s and some Far right here in Europe, that scares me a little

Nothing to say .. Palin is as stupid today as she was when she ran for Vice President spot ..
Water boarding as Baptismal right .....and here I thought Christianity is about Love and Forgiveness and most of all grace...I'm sure the Audience of NRA members ate her speech up like a pack or rabid dogs ..
Her speech afferms the reactionary core of the NEO CONS . There blood lust for vengeance is not different than the terrorist . What makes it more frightening is this homicidal view , this Conservative American brand of so called Patriotism is no different in doctrine than the Terrorist themselves ...., It seems the GOP and Tea Parties themselves are willing to embrace a ever more aggressive posture when dealing with anything .. Like coddling the likes of Bundy who is nothing more than a Racist Cowboy that had run up a huge bill with the BLM ... Now we have Palin a one time contender for the Vic President spot of this Nation comparing a beautiful rebirth in baptism to Torture .. There is something seriously wrong with these folks ... Is it God they worship ? Really ? or perhaps the ALMIGHTY GUN ....
Animals ....in a kennel what that gathering was ... Leta not let them out ... They have done enough damage already ....and they call themselves Civilized ...By what standard ...

MikeinMT "... but she is right about terrorists, they deserve to be treated as the animals that they are."

To an Iraqi, a terrorist may be the US soldier who invaded his country. Maybe Cheney should be waterboarded.

This woman speaks for the Right in our country? No wonder the Right has such a hard time winning Presidential elections these days.

When I saw this headline, I checked to make sure I wasn't on the onion's website or some other satirical news source. You can never be sure when the story is about the latest idiotic thing to come out of this one's mouth.

"...taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare" Wow, she should just add "your babies, your genitals, your girlie mags, etc." while she's at it, since the truth has no meaning to her.

Does everybody understand that this woman's political career died when she resigned mid-way through her first term as Governor of Alaska? Regardless of what she attempts to do in 2016, she will not make the White House. Even she understands that.

I just find it amusing that it freaks people out that whenever she says something, in fact anything. She can say Hi to someone and it will be newsworthy. Why?

A 5th grader had to tell Palin the duty of a VP and now she thinks she can be President. Palin is good at standing alone street talking but in a debate Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren would completely clean her clock worst than that 5th grader. The 5th grader didn't have notes written in her hand either. LOL

Palin should have said, "Waterboarding is how we baptize suspected terrorist. Only 10% of the people we waterboard are terrorist. Around 20% will confessed even if they are not terrorist. The other 70% are people we just pick up because they have beards and are wearing robes." This statement would have made more sense.
And we wonder why people around the world hate the USA! It's because of people like Palin.

I don't think Jesus Christ would condone torture nor reference it to baptism. And she calls herself a Christian?

Palin is an American Patriotic Woman unlike Obamas.
    ______________________
Palin is no patriot. Patriots care about our nation, not just what the nation (or their party) can do for them. Ms. Palin has no clue what it means to be an American.

    Thanks for the laughs CNN!!
I SO hope the far right-wing keeps trotting this harpy out, she guarantees a double-digit increase in 'turnout of ' intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals.'
What's sad is that someone who claims to be for freedom is also for water-boarding AND claims to be a Christian. I am forced to assume the irony is utterly lost on her.
