Rubio: Obama must enforce tougher sanctions on Russia

(CNN) - Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, slammed President Obama for not taking strong enough action against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea, arguing that the president is setting a precedent that regional powers can hold vulnerable countries hostage to achieve their economic goals.

“We must never allow any nation or terror group to hold any region of the world hostage to their demands,” Rubio said in a weekly GOP address. “We should never have to ask a regional power for permission in order to conduct commerce with any nation. And we should always stand on the side of the vulnerable and the oppressed.”

Rubio also criticized President Obama for his overall foreign policy in dealing with Putin, saying that it lacks strategy and instead is based on politics.

“President Obama talks tough about Vladimir Putin. But his actions have not gone far enough to change Putin’s calculation that the benefits of his aggression outweigh the costs,” Rubio said. “Instead of shaping world events, he has often simply reacted to them. “

Rubio touted his support for the Ukraine support bill introduced by Senate GOP leaders last week to increase Russian sanctions and provide military aid to the Ukraine. The bill calls for Obama to speed up deployments of missile defense in Eastern Europe, provide military aid to Ukraine and impose tougher economic sanctions on Putin and his inner circle.

Fake empathy for others. Why can't he stand behind the vulnerable and oppressed here in America, ie, get Medicaid expanded for needy Floridians. Stop cutting food stamps. Etc. Produce the Jobs that were promised so people aren't dependant!

Instead of shaping world events he reacts to them. Wow. What a backward statement! They are mad because he won't react in a volatile manner. I thank God we have a thinking President who doesn't feel his manhood is tied up in such decisions. And we are not the conqueror or police of the world. Its not our responsibility to go it alone. There's a whole world out there.

To the Cuban water boy. You can talk about Russia after you and our government do something about an island 90 miles from US soil. Your 15 minutes of fame occurred a few years back and you waterboarded yourself. Go away.
Cuba? Remember? The country of birth of your parents?
How about you start there and try to give their fellow countrymen/women a chance to better themselves.
Except for the fact that there's no freedom they do have excellent freed education and that particular thorn on the side of you and your teaklans . . . . . . free healthcare.

You don't want a war with Russia but you do want to decimate Iran. Where do you get your information? I have not read where Iran has developed a "Nuke", or killed any Americans with "nukes". Just like an earlier post where you stated our unemployment rate was almost 20%. Why do you bother to post things that are total garbage, have no foundation in truth, and obviously come from sources beyond this world. What do you use to gain this information, ouija, crystal ball, tea leaves? And from many of your prior posts you want anther war probably more then you want your next breath. It's so easy to scream for war when it's not YOUR life that will be put in jeopardy, or your blood shed, or your legs and or arms lost. Screech on Chris, there are more then a few of us that will continue to pursue peace instead of filling graves.

in Odessa, not pro-Russian people!! native inhabitants of Odessa died in the building trade unions on the Kulikovo field! SNN shows video footage but says not that the victims were told! they are actually talking about the Nazis in the armed forces of the Ukrainian government! they say about the U.S. intelligence agencies that govern the Ukrainian government! CNN-you tell lies for Americans ! You incited hatred against Russia! You are afraid of her! Because Russia does not allow criminals in the U.S. government to enslave a objectionable country

Read the third sentence of your post that says we rewarded them for and killing Americans" you don't get to hide Chris. Those were your words exactly. I don't think you are nuts, I think you just like alot of people believe anything you are told. Big difference between developing nukes, and dems giving them a reward for making a nuke and killing Americans.

Why not impose sanctions on the President of Fiji. He didn't restrain the protesters either.. let's make him into a supervillain! And contrary to all US principles, the evil President of Fiji supports democracy! Unforgiveable!
