Jindal to warn of religious intolerance by left, slam HGTV

(CNN) – Gov. Bobby Jindal will strike a familiar refrain in a commencement address on Saturday, warning of an increasingly secular culture driven by a government that stifles religious liberty.

According to advance excerpts of his speech at Liberty University, the Louisiana Republican and potential 2016 White House hopeful will point to legal controversies of late, blaming the Obama administration, Democrats and the entertainment industry for an infringement on religious freedoms.

"Under the Obama regime, you have the protection of the First Amendment as an individual, you see – but the instant you start a business, you lose those protections," he will say, according to prepared remarks.

"The modern ‘left’ in America is completely intolerant of the views of people of faith. They want a completely secular society where people of faith keep their views to themselves," Jindal will say.

In the remarks, Jindal will decry HGTV's recent decision to cancel a show after reports surfaced that the planned hosts, twin brothers David and Jason Benham, reportedly made remarks against homosexuality.

The Benham brothers, who are graduates of Liberty University, told CNN they believe HGTV was bullied into its decision and defended themselves as not anti-homosexual, or discriminatory in any manner.

"Think about that for a minute. If these guys had protested at the Republican Party Convention, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV would probably have given them a raise," Jindal will say.

Jindal is term-limited as Louisiana governor and is considering launching a bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016. He's is the latest in a slew of conservative White House hopefuls to speak at the evangelical Christian university.

Jindal's prepared remarks echo what another Republican, and possible 2016-er, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said in speech at the school last month.

The Lynchburg, Virginia, university is popular stomping ground for conservative politicians.

Here we go again. With Christian churches in every town and hamlet and extremists wanting to take over the government, tell me he is really bringing up the War on Christianity myth again. There are 10x more christian church than McDonald's. Think about it.

Perhaps he could spend a little time in N.Korea or Iran then he might be able to tell us what religious oppression really means.

We're not intolerant on people of faith. However, me personally am intolerant towards the so called KKKristian sect of society who try to push their ideology on people of other faiths. Just out of curiosity Bobby, what was Jesus Christ's race? Was he a blonde hair, blue eyed man or did he look more like the people from the region where he was born?

Jindal needs to worry about his state's disappearing coastline, or rather, the entire bottom third of Louisiana. No other state is more endangered, at least the physical land, than his. Yet even the Dems there run away from environmental issues. Total Lunacy!

I guess they will expect the Federal Government to bail them out when it gets bad enough, again.

"The modern ‘left’ in America is completely intolerant of the views of people of faith." Well, if the views expressed by the people of faith are themselves intolerant....then yes.

What a farce. CNN is clearly avoiding printing what these brothers have said in public about the LGBT community that makes them toxic to HGTV appealing to as wide an audience as possible. And come on...it's HGTV...do you really think they can afford to alienate the LGBT community by giving a couple of religious bigots a television show?

David Benham has gone so far as to compare the LGBT community and "agenda" to demons and Naziism, calling same-sex marriage "evil" and writing an article in which he advocates more "aggression" against the "homosexual agenda" and quotes Bible verses about war, weapons and warriors. Enough already. The other brother is just as bad. And their father, Flip Benham, who is their obvious tutor in the fine arts of hate, is the leader of
the abortion-clinic protest group Operation Save America ever since it split from the militant anti-choice group Operation Rescue. As leader of OSA, Benham has condemned the interfaith Sandy Hook memorial, protested in front of mosques while shouting “Jesus Hates Muslims” and blamed the Aurora shooting on the Democratic Party, which he said promotes a “culture of death. These two religious nuts didn't fall far from that tree.

Hilarious. Mexico's corporate tax rate is 30% and the United States rate is 40%. Is that another one of your "facts" through that "lens" that you look through?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Yours is the party that primaries any rep/Senator that does anything that is not in perfect goosestep/lockstep with the party. Ditto for saying that any Christian who doesn't have a problem with gay marriage isn't really a Christian.

Benghazi select committee has 7 repubs and 5 dems and the gang (at least several of them the other day) complain about this having a predetermined conclusion because of the make up. Benghazi committee = bias and unfair

Christie select committee has 5 dems and 3 repubs and nary a word nor concern about an unfair or predetermined conclusion. Christie committee = fair and totally ethical

    Yup, that makes sense.

As Sniffit posted elsewhere, the EFFECTIVE corporate tax rate in the U.S. is lower. BTW, did you know that General Electric and other major U.S. corporations are enjoying $310 billion in tax breaks courtesy of the American taxpayer? Yep, 6 tax breaks designed specifically for them cost us $310 billion.

Poor itty-bitty corporations ... they have it soooooo bad here!

  23. it must be said

The far left Democrat Party has perverted and twisted our freedom OF relligion to freedom FROM religion. They hate religion, until they can use it to further one of their causes, then they will use it. But after that, they will continue their attack on it. The far left is NOT tolerant of ANYTHING that threatens its supremacy, which religion does. Why do you think communist countries suppress and oppress relgiion?

My biggest problem with these RWNJs and their insecurities. If everyone is not exactly like them, they can't handle it. Their faith must be awfully weak ...
