Michelle Obama: Nigeria kidnappings 'unconscionable'

(CNN) - First lady Michelle Obama condemned the "unconscionable" kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls, saying the action was taken by "a terrorist group determined to keep these girls from getting an education."

"Like millions of people across the globe, my husband and I are outraged and heartbroken" over the mass kidnapping by the terrorist group Boko Haram, the first lady said Saturday in the White House weekly address.

@Bill GA-Boko Haram said they kndnapped the girls to sell them into the slavery not to prevent them from getting an education. If preventing girls from getting an education was the motive then the group would have blown up the school or kidnapped the teachers. This was a statement by the group to gain clout in the islamic terrorist network and to draw in the US into a jihad.

"Our girls" ......who is she speaking about? Were there American girls kidnapped? Maybe if they are found, Obama will grant them citizenship here in America seeing that they are "our girls".

You see, this is why most of think the GOP is simply a waste of air- their complete lack of humanity. You'll go to war at the drop of hat for all sorts of silly reasons, but 250 teenaged school girls getting sold in to slavery, well, you're cool with that.

  3. ThinkAgain - Don't like Congress? Get rid of the repub/tea bag majority.

@pictureamerica: I know your post was sarcastic, but I would like to add that what the world needs is more empathy and compassion and a lot less greed and infantile self-centeredness.

@Jeff Brown in Jersey: "So much hate from the right on this issue. I guess kidnapping girls who are black is no big deal to them. Guess what Smith and Chris-E...al and reggie53... In a few years, YOU will be in the minority and YOU will be screaming bloody murder if people of color treat you the way you treat them. JUST SAYIN'!!!!!"

That's why they're freaking out, Jeff: They expect to be treated as poorly as they treat others, projecting their own defects instead of using that energy to take an honest look in the mirror and CHANGE.

Good to see the First lady talking about the abducted young girls by a group of thugs fighting under the banner of religion which just sserves them and their masters who have offered them material support since the year 2002. While the young girls are raped and their necks are whacked with crude machetes, the swiss bank accounts and caymans gets fatter and fatter with blood money.

Who cares what Michelle thinks. Nobody elected a First Lady ever – and my comment is not just about Michelle but all First Ladies.

There are so many tragedies going on in this country! Why Nigeria? Why Africa? I think the Boys in the Bunkhouse scandal is just as worthy of of Michelle's attention not least because it occurred in a small town here in the US (and African-Americans were also among the victims). It's politics as usual – trying to divert the gaze of the American public from the fact that the US is in a socioeconomic free-fall and has been for decades. I'm also sure there's an element of racism in the direction Michelle's gaze as well.

What does the White House have to save about the hundreds (thousands?) of US children that go "missing" every year? How much federal and military assistance is provided trying to locate our own missing or kidnapped?
