(CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton suggested the Republican Party has become more extreme, saying Richard Nixon would be considered "a flat-out communist" compared to the people running his party today.
Kicking off a speech to a progressive think tank, Clinton said that to be successful in a life of public service, "you have to be obsessively interested in people and you need to be interested in them as individuals and not just as some collective body."

Clinton continued: "I always thought that was one of the things that got President Nixon in trouble; I think he really cared about America as a whole, and he was a flat-out communist compared to the crowd running his party today."
"But he had a hard time thinking about flesh-and-blood people and relating to them today and how these things would affect them,” he said.
Clinton's comments came during a speech to a fund-raiser at the Center for American Progress in Washington.
It was Clinton's second public event Wednesday. It focused on economic policy.
"Inequality is a severe constraint on our collective growth," he said.
Earlier, he defended his wife, Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state who's considering a 2016 presidential bid, from Republican Karl Rove's suggestion that she suffers from a brain injury after a 2012 incident.
Clinton is partially responsible for the extreme economic disparity we have today. It seems he's been trying to make up for it since leaving office, however half-heartedly. And his wife should not be president.
Nixon put forth many different things that the GOP now would scream at.
I do not want to be part of Clinton's "collective growth". The Democrats have changed more radically than Republicans. Our "Safety Net" as they call it is ever bigger and more expensive. Our debt has climbed more under Obama than in any other presidency. The government is ever more intrusive into our lives. Just lately we have lost the ability to choose our doctor and insurance policy. We still do not realize how much we have lost as his program is put in place. Obama keeps putting it past elections. This is because he realizes that we forget what he says and does. Then we fail to recognize that he has lied and cheated us out of our freedoms. The book 1984 was considered a futuristic farce until it became true.
He is absolutely right about the right wing , yet the left has become more talk then walk .
This man is truly delusional and grossly arrogant.
nixon had resign clinton was fen to be impeach so both guy was not wanted in the white house.
Translation: "Stop picking on Hillary! We have planned long and hard for this Dynasty. We tried to blackmail and backstab Obama for his support, but he has been a big failure and is backing Biden. And enough about this Benghazi thing. Hillary caught the YouTube filmmaker and Barack got to party in Vegas."
Uh, who was it again that went to great lengths to demonize Nixon?
I don't think that the only US president to be impeached for lying is a reliable beacon for the facts
Good gracious the man looks old ! He must have aged 20 years in a 5 year span.
""Inequality is a severe constraint on our collective growth," he said."
Well, I guess part of Bill's job these days is to parrot the current party line.
Clinton is apparently worth about $80 million. If he was all that concerned about "inequality," he could do something about it himself, but that's not the Democrat Way of making others pay for their foolish ideas.
3 points worth noting in Clinton-presendency-Benghazi talks ..... The GOPers political strategies have never been human oriented but money oriented (and for the rich only). The US Congress should now undertake a census of personnel losses at their foreign missions to terrorism under their surviving Presidents with a view to unravelling a comparative analysis of causes and responses to the inccidents, if the Benghazi balls should continue to be played endlessly.....the third but not definitely the least point is on the Democrats presidency choices....if Karl Rove and his Repub cohorts see Hillary as formidable in presidential run now, its fair enough to advice them to prepare for bigger surprises because other Democrats like Kerry( who was equally effect as a senator and sec of state) and many many others are suited for the US White House Candidacy.
And what is Bill considered for supporting U.N. Agenda 21?
Go get them Bill.
--current GOP is worst than him too. These idiots just suck the blood out of employees, ship jobs out.
the repubs divide and conquer tactics have become have become more dangerous every day. they are sucking up the money out of the economy, by saying hey them folks over there are sucking up your tax money and don't want to work. this drive the right to a frenzy, and they are willing to push the economy's money to the rich. these folks are willing to allow the rich to invest in china and build china into a greater super power than us, so that their neighbors over the train tracks wont get it, and spend money in their businesses to hire those same folks to get them off their tax money government subsidies. the repubs have this power of separate and conquer by getting these right wingers blazing mad about these welfare queens, not even mentioning that there are way more white people on government subsidies than minorities. lets start rebuilding our infrastructures and get those folks over the railroad tracks working so the repubs can get rid of this weapon of divide and conquer, to shovel money to the rich to build china into the world lone super power and send america back at the end of the line before its too late.
The gop behavior is that of a juvenile, and their base eats it up, speaks volumes wouldn't you say? She's smarter than you karl, even after her brain injury, imagine that
Bill Clinton is considered a "flat out neo-con" compared to the current democratic party. Then comes this whopper from the ex hypocrite in chief, told at a cabal of wealthy elites while fundraising "Inequality is a severe constraint on our collective growth," he said. Is their anything this guy won't say?
