McConnell, Grimes win GOP primaries in Kentucky, CNN projects

(CNN) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell bested his tea party-backed rival on Tuesday, cruising to a Republican primary victory in Kentucky, CNN projects.

McConnell will face Alison Lundergan Grimes, who CNN projects will win the Democratic nomination, in November. Grimes, the Kentucky secretary of state, would be its first woman senator.

In his campaign for a sixth term, McConnell fought off anti-establishment Republicans, who threw their support behind businessman Matt Bevin.

Five other states were holding primaries on Tuesday.

If the people get out and vote, Grime's will mop the floor with him. I'd love to see this happen.

Let's hope come November, the people of Kentucky remember how unpopular this republican is and sweep him and most other of his kind out of office. mcconnell has done nothing to help this country and a great deal to hurt it and the people of his state. the republican ideology is bad for America and bad for Americans, unless they happen to be multi-billionaire oligarchs.

I think Mitch should have been put out to pasture. Not very effective. Just a leach on a government log.

I was so hoping to hear that McConnell lost it. I mean the election rather than his reasonableness. I don't think that he really had any reasonableness in years.

  8. ThinkAgain - Don't like Congress? Get rid of the repub/tea bag majority.

Why is it that gop/tea bags are always spouting off about wanting local control and states' rights, when they don't seem to have a problem with a couple billionaires like the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson spending millions on elections and candidates and pulling strings all around the country?

It is simple for me. If Republicans come even close to losing Mitches seat there will be no takeover of the senate by the the GOP and it will back up into the house and GOP will lose, rather than gain seats.
Watch this space in November 2014!!

I take it that this guy and the bo ner are NOT on the same page?
He beats an anti repug candidate. Bo ner says that the antiquated and koch derived party are the same.
Not sure how many votes went for each candidate but did see last night that Grimes was winning by a pretty HUGE margin.
    GO GRIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wonder how much the mega corporations payed cnn to spatter Mitch the twit photo all over the front page as promotion. i don't see grimes photo anywhere, to let the people know who she is. lesson folks america just cannot afford another 2 years of repubs obstructionism. they refuse to give the elected party any kind of agenda. THE PEOPLE ELECTED THIS PRESIDENT TWICE TO DO HIS A AGENDA. they are not fools, they've seen how repub policies have ravished this country during the Bush years they don't want to go through that again, or some of us. our country infrastructure is falling down in to rubbles, and all the repubs can do is point across the railroad tracks, saying that them folks over their is scrounging off your tax dollars. getting these folks emotional throwing away logic through the window, allowing the repubs to suck money out of the country, give it to the rich international mega corporations, to build china into a mega super power. this divide and conquer apparadus the repubs have been using is old and effective. all they have to do is tell neighbors that neighbors are free loading off them, and get them more than willing to give build china instead of our crumbling infrastructure.

  15. Dutch/Bad Newz, VA - Take Back the House

“Nothing about this election change who is in the White House…Sen. McConnell, this race, is between you and me. It is my number one priority that Mitch McConnell doesn’t see another term. I am not an empty dress, nor a rubber stamp, and I'm not a cheerleader. I will answer to the people, not the president — no matter who he or she might be. I am a proud Kentucky woman, and no Kentucky woman will sit on the back bench."
    -------------------------------------
Mitch, you've got a problem. She's Kentucky through and through and you're nothing but the bacon guy who has exceeded his time in Congress. I believe the people of Kentucky want a new face representing them in the U.S. Senate. Your time is up Mitch!
