'Cowboy' beats 'normal guy' in Idaho governor primary

(CNN) - Two-term Gov. Butch Otter has won the Republican primary in Idaho, narrowly beating out tea party challenger state Sen. Russ Fulcher.

That would be the "cowboy" beating the "normal guy."

The race gained national attention after a debate last week hosted by Idaho Public Television. Along with Otter and Fulcher, two lesser-known Republicans participated in what turned out to be a more entertaining than informative debate.

Both of those candidates, Walt Bayes and Harley Brown, sported long beards, and Brown was donning full biker regalia.

At one point, Brown laid out Idaho voters' choices: "A cowboy, a curmudgeon, a biker, or a normal guy. Take your pick," pointing to Otter, Bayes, himself and Fulcher, respectively.

Otter will now face off against Democrat A.J. Balukoff, a businessman and Boise School Board Chairman, in November's election. Otter is considered the favorite in a state where Republicans have the upper hand over the Democrats.

The republican politics in these red states is down right hilarious. The winner is typically who's the kookiest. We heard the most bizarre things during that republican primary. It should have been aired on Comedy Central.

    Hoops, GOPerville.
It's the hoops you folks make your candidates jump through.
Degrading your party image ... one hoop at a time.

In fact, Harley Brown's beard was quite short. His was about the same length as the short beard worn by Wolf Blitzer in the introduction to the video.

Why does this matter? Because, CNN, if you can't get the very simple facts straight, how can we trust that you will speak the truth when the matter is more complex than the length of a man's beard?

(Wow... this sounds like a comment from the 1800's.)
