House VA chairman: ‘This is just the tip of the iceberg’

(CNN) - The chairman of the congressional committee charged with investigating allegations of cooked books, a secret wait list and cover-ups in the Veterans Affairs health care system says the findings are "just the tip of the iceberg."

"I know there's more to come," Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Florida, chairman of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee said on New Day on Thursday. "We've received some information and some tips that will make what has already come look like kindergarten stuff."

Maybe they've found video of President Obama actually "cooking books". Because I'm sure this is all his fault. This and his phony birth certificate ought to be the ticket.

The problems at the VA are decades old and its not Obama`s fault or Bush`s fault. Its an overburden network that can`t handle the load. If you listen to the families of the vets who died waiting for care it totally points to bad record keeping. Shinseki has hold people accountable for that or he needs to go.

This Miller dude needs to stop mugging for the camera. He makes no sense whatsoever. In one sentence he's stating:

"We've received some information and some tips that will make what has already come out look like kindergarten stuff."

And in the next sentence he's decided:

"But Miller said he's not necessarily pushing for the secretary to step down immediately."

He's fishing for veterans to voice their complaints is my guess. Dude has no ideal what needs to be done. None.

I'm chalking it up to Eric Cantor's House of Representatives work calendar. These Congressionals aren't in their offices or on call with enough frequency to get their talking points down let alone actually spend the time to inform themselves as to how a multi-billion dollar VA medical complex works.

I don't see how you can call this a "scandal" when this nonsense has been going on forever. This is just a rock that was overturned and more dirty laundry was found under it. The bigger issue at hand is if you can't take care of your veterans, then don't start stupid wars. Shinseki got thrown under the bus by the Bush Administration when he see 300,000 troops would be needed for Iraq and Rumsfeld and the gang made him resign. Turned out he was right. So you can't make me believe that Gen. Shinseki knew about these shenanigans.

    Shhh don't say that smith!!!

Now say it with me... This is Obama's fault. It happened on his watch. He's personally responsible for killing American vets. ( I actually read that a few days ago)☺️

    Ain't it great folks.

These Republicans are the very people who time after time defund, underfund the VA or education or healthcare or anything that has to do with America's middle-class.

But let anything happen because of that and they running whining and pointing fingers at everyone and everything on the planet except themselves.

    Sick of Republicans.

This is what happens when "wasteful spending" is cut by Congress and budgets are set below the critical need.

Our President stated that what was happening at the VA was "dishonorable", and I agree, but so is the fact that this administration knew about this in 2008 and did nothing about it, that too is "dishonorable". Stop spewing words with out action Mr. President, show responsibility and accountability.

"But let anything happen because of that and they running whining and pointing fingers at everyone and everything on the planet except themselves."

I agree. Their image of being the "go to" guys has been severely damaged these past few decades. That they did it to themselves with their whining and foot stomping is the icing on their "let them eat cake" meme. Folks are at the breaking point of frustration and yet here these fools are still stamping their feet and whining. Eventually even the media will figure out that they too are a laughingstock of American politics.

Until such time as the the breaking points boils over ... yeah, we still have to deal to the garbage on a daily basis.

This is what happens when the government runs programs with no oversight. It is much better to have a private system where the government watches out for people than a government system where no one watches. The press is supposed to do this BUT they only watch sexy stories.

" . . . will make what has already come out look like kindergarten stuff." Very irresponsible to release a statement like this. It is called a "teaser" and a common media ploy. I expect more from our elected officials.

"but so is the fact that this administration knew about this in 2008"

Goggle 2008 and you'll find "this" administration wasn't yet in existence. By default, this president in all likelihood will bear the brunt of the complaints, but to be fair, these problems with the VA have been going on for decades.

It's time for both parties to step up to the plate and actually work together.

Yeah. I know. Hard call going nowhere.

Sigh, folks, this is NOT a spending problem. If the VA had $500m to redo offices and conference rooms, they weren't hurting for money. It's a bureaucratic problem that, as so many have pointed out, has been going on for decades.
This is something every president has had happen on their watch. Right now, I am NOT blaming Obama, Bush, or any other president.

Want to fix the VA? Try this - 1. fire every SES and GS13 and up, 2. Bring in successful hospital administrators, none from CA, (Sorry, spent ten years there and watched the rampant corruption in nearly every major and minor city), and 3. From hereon out, hire ONLY veterans. We will take care of our wounded brothers and sisters, and our fathers and their wounded brothers. There are enough veterans with senior administrative experience AND hospital administration experience, plus more than enough of us with lower admin level know-how, to get this done quickly, right, and make damn sure it doesn't happen again.

His committee should be held responsible for this disaster, they were supposed to be overseeing the administration of the VA system.

So Republicans in Arizona and Texas are trying to bring down the President Obama, since Congress won't do. Reminds me of Edward Snowman, who didn't like the President, so he decided to betray his Country so his Idol, Rand Paul, can become a hero. What a joke. Republicans have been chasing a fake scandal after another to make the President look bad. Good luck with that.

I cannot help but laugh at the mindless masses on here, that are still finding any way at all to still blame Republicans for this and other messes. You people treat politics like a sports team...defend to the bitter end, never look at facts. Oh...The Republicans do it too. Support your sock puppet and watch the bouncing ball you sheep. Pay no attention to what is really going on.

So far, all these cases have occurred in 'red' states, makes one wonder.

When I was discharged ni 79 and went to VA for some just agfter discharge appointments, I waited over a year from my initial request to seeing the Doctor, of course that was the time of snail mail and there was no internet available to the masses.
