(CNN) – President Obama stunned tourists and others outside of the White House as he decided to take a stroll to the nearby Interior Department, accompanied by his sizable security detail.
The White House posted video of the rare outdoor trek, which took place Wednesday.
Obama shook hands, hugged, took photos and passed out White House M&M's to the surprised passers-by.
One woman, who introduced herself as Karen, asked for a picture and said it was "the best day of her life."
"Oh my gosh. Someone's going to think you're like wax," she added, as the photo was being taken.
Funny, I have never voted for a republican in my life. Grew up the grandson of the head of the Democratic party in Washington State. However, one of the highlights in my life was meeting the first President Bush. I did not agree with his policies, but meeting the president and actually having a 10 minute conversation with him is something I will never forget. I wish I could meet Presidents Carter, Clinton, W, and Obama. If you are so angry in your life that you cannot see that meeting the POTUS would be a memorable experience, then I feel sorry for you!
Everyone ought to be glad that the man has done a good enough job that we don't have to walk around in fear in this country. Glad to see walks are happening, and any other stress relief he may want. What are you people smoking?
'John – Looks like the Obama cheering squad is out in force. Just because he's a nice guy does not make him an effective President. I wonder how many vet's he's visited in hospitals? I'm guessing not many, too busy hanging in Hollywood for money.'
And if he spent his time visiting vets you would be here moaning about PR opportunities and campaigning.
Well, he finally did something. He took a walk and some more selfies. Progress.
