Tongue firmly in cheek: Christie says again he’d love to run the Mets

(CNN) – Chris Christie, a diehard New York Mets fan, reiterated on Friday that he would happily run the National League baseball team, if given the chance.

"I would love to be general manager of the Mets," the New Jersey governor said on WFAN's "Boomer and Carton" sports radio show.

The Republican joked that if the club’s current general manager, Sandy Alderson, "would put his crap in boxes and get out of there now, I'd be happy to go there now."

His comments came after co-host Craig Carton asked Christie about a light-hearted "rumor" that he was being considered for the Major League Baseball job.

Christie said it was "untrue" but went on to say he'd "love" to have that job. They're becoming "impossible" to watch, he added.

The governor, who's seriously thinking about running for president in 2016, has said in the past that he'd take the general manager position.

"Mr. Wilpon. My number. You've got it. Give me a call. General Manager Christie," he jokingly said of Fred Wilpon, the majority owner of the Mets, in a 2012 appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"The people of New Jersey, I've got to go. I've been offered the general managership of the Mets. It's time for me to move on," he continued, looking into the camera.

Be careful what you wish for, bug guy. You're talking about the end of your fledgling political career. Fantasy sometimes has a way of becoming reality.

BTW, Christie would fit right in with the hard right leaning owners. I remember back win Willie Randolph was managing the team. At one point, Randolph was the only black American wearing a Mets uniform on the entire squad.

And shortly thereafter the Mets batters would be caught using corked bats and the pitchers would be thrown out for throwing spitballs and Christie would blame a rogue bench coach and claim he knew nothing about it.

He'd run them bankrupt and then use the players salary to balance the budget

I hope he does that and fails like he is doing with NJ. If the Mets were running out of money and couldn't cut anything further, they'd raise prices on everything. That is what NJ needs to do on the wealthy. They don't leave because of the income tax but because of the property taxes and inept governors like him.

I hope he does become the Mets GM. It would make it all the more satisfying when my beloved Buccos give them a whooping.

If the team was losing, he could make the path from 3rd base to home plate become jammed while the foe was at bat.

Funny? Food is the most addictive substance in America. Start checking the sugar content in the food you eat. Methinks you'd rather eat Republicans.

People still give that much attention to baseball? On sporstcenter they talk more about tennis and golf then baseball. Christie looks more like a football general manager, maybe he could help the Browns out. It can`t get any worse in Cleveland.
