Clinton supporters meeting to talk Benghazi, national security

Washington (CNN) - With Hillary Clinton’s memoir due out soon, a close aide will brief Democratic national security experts and communicators on the next round of political scrutiny over the Benghazi terror attack.

Philippe Reines, a longtime Clinton adviser and spokesman, will address the group organized by Third Way, a moderate think tank, at a meeting in Washington on Friday.

Crossfire: Is Ben Carson qualified to be president?

(CNN) – Ben Carson, a renowned neurosurgeon and a popular figure among conservatives who's considering a run for president, wouldn't say whether he's qualified to be commander in chief.

Appearing on CNN's "Crossfire” on Wednesday, Carson was asked by co-host Stephanie Cutter on the left whether he thinks he has what it takes to lead the country.

Valerie Plame: CIA outing 'colossally stupid'

(CNN) - Another CIA official whose cover was blown by a presidential administration said the inadvertent outing of an intelligence official in Afghanistan by the White House was “colossally stupid” and will have repercussions for the intelligence community.

But Valerie Plame, whose identity was infamously leaked by the Bush administration in 2003 and touched off a scandal, said on Wednesday it’s an apples to oranges comparison as it appears to be a mistake, rather than a malicious takedown.

After filing a complaint with Christie at a town hall Wednesday in Ocean County, New Jersey, one woman told the Republican governor he looks a lot "smaller."

Congressional support for embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki dwindled further Wednesday in the wake of a new report documenting multiple unofficial wait lists of veterans seeking care at a Phoenix facility.1,700 veterans also waiting to be seen did not appear on any list.

Colorado’s Mark Udall – who is up for re-election this year – became the first Democratic senator to call for Shinseki to resign. “Secretary Shinseki must step down," Udall said in a statement. "We need new leadership who will demand accountability to fix these problems.”

The confab, held over dinner at the governor’s mansion in Austin, was organized by Republican operative Mike Dennehy, Perry’s man-on-the-ground in New Hampshire, and included several business leaders and Republican activists from the nation’s first primary state.

Biden: 'Name one innovative product' from China

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden blasted China on Wednesday in a speech about foreign policy, arguing the country hasn't produced anything innovative.

"China-and it's true - is graduating six to eight times as many scientists and engineers as we have. But I challenge you, name me one innovative project, one innovative change, one innovative product that has come out of China," the vice president said forcefully.

After California shooting, House Democrats to push for gun control measures

Washington (CNN) - After a mass shooting in California on Friday, House Democrats plan to press for action on gun control measures this week.

The no. 2 House Democrat told reporters that he and other Democrats are discussing whether to push for an amendment to a spending bill that would beef up background checks for those purchasing guns.
