Recalling own injuries, Obama calls for end to ‘suck it up’ culture in youth sports

(CNN) – Saying he wants to change a culture in youth sports where kids are encouraged to “suck it up” after sustaining head injuries, President Barack Obama on Thursday said it was time coaches and athletes started thinking about better ways to keep kids safe on playing fields.

Obama said he could recall instances during his own days in Pop Warner leagues when a particularly hard hit left him sidelined for a spell.

Harvard awards George H.W. Bush honorary degree

(CNN) - When Harvard University leaders awarded former President George H.W. Bush an honorary degree Thursday, they made sure to mention his alma mater.

"It is seldom on this stage that we take the occasion to honor a former member of the cheerleading squad at Yale," Harvard Provost Alan Garber said in light-hearted remarks about the 41st president.

Obama revamps his foreign policy baseball metaphor

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama is retooling the foreign policy metaphor that caused his critics to claim he was taking a passive stance abroad.

Instead of hitting singles and doubles, Obama now says he’s focused on swinging at the right pitch.
