I listened to all the punditry on this and it all ignored the real point in my humble opinion. which is:-
The Republican party has moved so far to the right and its not necessary to talk in terms of tea party GOP or mainstream GOP; that's pure punditry talking points.
The point is so has the whole Republican base policy wise ideology wise and the party over the year Obama became president has convinced itself by listening to its outdate base that its ideology, policies are winners.
In the process they have lost the centre right Independents and young voters and A lot of latino's. Many red states ignoring Medicaid expansion are encouraging those people who need that to get out an vote..... there are over 5.2m nationally. The GOP also is kidding themselves if they think they can win over the women's vote In 2014 or that of say the LGBT community.
As one pundit has said the GOP will not win enough seats to win the Senate this fall, and losing some governorship races.
    Regards,
    Hodgson.

The Tea Party believes 1. Eliminate Excessive Taxes. 2. Eliminate the National Debt. 3. Eliminate Deficit Spending.
    4. Protect Free Markets. 5. Abide by the Constitution of the United States. 7. Reduce the Overall Size of Government. Despite our media's attempt to demonize Americans who believe in the Tea Party's platform, this win shows the media does not get it. You can always find loony's on both sides.

Democrats should be sweating, not rejoicing about this unbelievable occasion..shows how americans are in charge if they only get off their duffs and vote! TEA PARTY people are not "radicals" as the democrats like to smear them with..they represent grass roots hard working people who pay more than their fair share of taxes..also give more to charity than elitist dems..go TP..on to 2014 and 2016..

If this isn't a message to all Democrats and Independents, I don't know what is! Get out the vote in November or we run the risk of our government being truly overtaken by these radical tea bags.

For those that think the Tea Party is dead and buried I have News Blurb for you. NOT YET !! Eric Cantor was a good man and he may be back some other place. This election is no help to the Morally Bankrupt Liberal's who want to run the country but want the conservatives to pay for it. Just when you think Phil Graham is gone, back comes "Phil Graham".

    More abrupt changes to come!!

To all the GOP predicting victory in November , be very afraid , the dems are all coming out to vote to give you the BEATDOWN you DESERVE . When your party offers NOTHING don't expect ANYBODY to vote for you. The teaparty claims victory BUT it's the disgust of the Republican Party that lost the election for cantor. All a plus for the dems, six years of doing NOTHING came back to haunt the GOP. BE VERY AFRAID GOP !!!!!!

I see that TeaPers cut off the hand that not only opened the door for them, but also the hand that feed them (congressionally speaking).

Psst ... Eric Cantor. That GOPerville tent you carried around like fool's gold? It just got smaller.

Latino communities should need no further proof the TGOP has no interest in reasonable bipartisan immigration reform when the tea extremes are taking over the GOP.

    No gracias.

To a large degree, they are already there. The Tea Party frequently exhibits a troublingly similar nationalist mindset. They aspire to a state defined set of social rules, or religious beliefs. They want unrestricted freedom of gun ownership, with the only difference being that the Tea Party isn't excluding everyone else but themselves from this right. The Tea Party is still searching for that charismatic leader who has written a widely read, inspirational book.

The best part about this upset is that there is little chance of Cantor switching parties. Honestly, I would not be too surprised if he tried to mount a presidential campaign in 2016. Although I don't think Cantor has the wherewithal to be a POTUS, I have to remember that he is a Republican, which means reality doesn't get in the way of ego. I would like to see him give it try, just for the entertainment value. A guy running for POTUS who can't win his incumbent primary race.
