First on CNN: Chamber mounting new effort for embattled Cochran

Washington (CNN) - As the Mississippi GOP Senate runoff contest is about to enter into its final week, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is getting ready to go up with a new television ad for embattled incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran, CNN has learned.

Cochran is squaring off against tea party favorite Chris McDaniel, a state senator, in a June 24th runoff.

Sources describe the ad buy as “significant,” but would not provide further details.

This is the Chamber’s first effort in the runoff contest. It spent about $600,000 in the primary for Cochran.

The commercial, which begins running Monday, touts the six-term senator's stature in the state, touting newspaper descriptions of him as “respected” and “a tested leader fighting for Mississippi."

The spot also picks up on a theme Cochran has been emphasizing on the campaign trail: how he will use his power and stature in the state to make sure it gets federal dollars. The new Chamber ad says Cochran is “dependable…never budging on his commitment to deliver for Mississippi every day.”

The National Association of Realtors, another groups with establishment ties, went on airwaves in Mississippi with an ad in support of Cochran. The spot, running in several markets, will stay on the air until the runoff.

Both the Cochran and McDaniel campaigns have gone up with new commercials since the June 3rd primary.

McDaniel has also received support from major support from tea party and conservative groups, including the Club of Growth, which announced on Thursday its own new ad campaign for the challenger. The group said they were spending six-figures to run TV and radio spots statewide through the runoff election.

Sniffit – " What with the obsession with Putin? "

Jeeze, Sniffit, I just used him as an example. You gotta admit, though, he is a tough cookie. Ex KGB and all. And he is better known (name recognition IS important) than Xi Jinping, China's President.

But count on you to take the discussion in a different direction. Point is, Hill hasn't shown that she has what it takes to be a smart, STRONG leader of our country. Her vote to allow W-cheney to invade Iraq was either naive or gutless.

S.B. Stein – "Oh, how much will $500k get me? Can I get a Senator?" ... "Sorry sir."

You're kidding, right?? $50K will buy a Senator down south. You may not own him lock, stock, and barrel, but you will get the vote you want.

A few years, one of Georgia's Senators, at the bidding of the Southern Company, claimed that Georgia did not have enough sunlight for Solar Energy. Seriously!!

As a liberal, I am cheering for the loony Tea Party primary candidates. In general elections, people usually recoil from the exposed extreme rhetoric and tin foil hat-ism. This has already played out a few times that the Dem they run against wins. They are taking down the GOP to which they attached themselves like parasites.

"My point is simply that you have to take into consideration that what they believed at the time was based on what they were told, and they were told KNOWING lies.

and your proof of this is what??? oh, you have none. so it is you that are knowing posting lies."

We were told they were certain that Iraq had WMDs, not that they suspected, and yet they NEVER possessed sufficient evidence to make that representation. That's exaggeration and lying.

"Her vote to allow W-cheney to invade Iraq was either naive or gutless."'

Hindsight's 20/20. As I said, I disagreed with invading and putting 100K boots on the ground EVEN IF Dubya et al weren't lying, so I consider that a "con" on my checklist with respect to her. I don't think believing them was naïve though. At some point, you have to trust what the POTUS and intelligence agencies are telling you, even if it's hard to swallow....going around disbelieving everything they say as a matter of "principle" is freekin foolishness. What is arguably naïve is thinking that nation building ever can work. Problem is, there's not a single viable POTUS candidate in the lineup who doesn't recognizes that. In any event, I think we agree to some extent, but I don't think it's a total disqualifier.

@Chris-Its all an excuse and a way to label somone in a negative light. The GOP, TP, and Indy`s are all racist because they disagree with Obama. To be fair alot on the Ticker aren`t like that but there are some that just can`t accept the fact some people disagree with Obama`s policies. I`ll leave you with this fact-A racist is a person who thinks their race is supreme not a person who disagrees with Democrats or Obama.

Sniffit – " What with the obsession with Putin? .... Russia is in abysmal shape economically and militarily and has been essentially reduced to a regional power."

According to CNN, 2 Russian Tu-95 Bear-H bombers were within 50 miles of the California coast last week. But don't let the facts get in the way of your diversion from Hillary's lack of qualifications.
