CNN/ORC Poll: Clinton tops Obama on every issue

What do you want to ask Hillary Clinton? Send your questions here and CNN Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour might ask it during CNN's town hall meeting with Clinton at 5 p.m. ET Tuesday at the Newseum in Washington.

Washington (CNN) - If Hillary Clinton is elected president in 2016, most Americans say they think she will do a good job handling crucial domestic and international issues, according to a new national poll.

And the CNN/ORC International survey released Monday also indicates that the former secretary of state scores much higher than President Barack Obama on every issue tested.

"That's helpful to her chances of actually getting elected if it holds up through 2016," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "It suggests that the President's low marks on most issues might not drag Clinton down if she runs for the White House again."

How enthusiastic are Democrats about Clinton as nominee?

Clinton served as America's top diplomat during Obama's first four years in office, so it may not be surprising that some of her best marks in the poll come on overseas issues: 63% say she would do a good job on foreign policy and 61% say the same on terrorism.

But it is notable that 63% say she'd do a good job handling the economy, and 57% believe she'd handle health care well.

Now compare those to Obama's latest job approval ratings on those same issues.

Just 38% questioned in the CNN poll say that they approve of how the President's handling the economy. That's 25 percentage points lower than the number who think Clinton would do a good job on the economy. Only 40% approve of Obama's foreign policy, 23 points lower than Clinton.

The same is true on other issues that have made headlines recently, including gun policy, the environment, and immigration.

"In fact, a majority think Clinton would do a good job on all nine issues tested in the poll; Obama's current job approval rating never breaks 50% on any of those same nine issues. None of this means that Clinton is a lock for the White House, but it is an enviable position for any candidate to be in," adds Holland.

The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International May 29-June 1, before the rollout of Clinton's new memoir, "Hard Choices." In the survey, 1,003 adults nationwide were questioned by telephone. The poll's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

CNN Political Editor Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

"Wake up.... It's a perfect name for you! In your feeble little mind, you believe that Republicans should do a complete 360 on their beliefs and blindly adhere to whatever lunacy is being put forward by the POTUS?"

Yes, the republicants are known for this, too. Hey, let's give the rich a tax cut. They do and it is a failure of an economic policy (even king bush the first called it voodoo economics). So they do 'a complete 360' (brings you back to the same point, since your math skills seem a bit sketchy- might keep your 'feeble mind' comments to yourself) and continue making the same mistake and trying to sell it to the American people like it is some 'fresh idea'.
Hey... how about we take a good portion of our revenue and give it to the people who have the least need for it. I know they have never held up their end of the bargain with job creation (employment consistently went down under bush after the tax cuts) and they just pocket it or put it in the Cayman islands.... but they do contribute a lot of money to my relection campaign.
    Koolaid anyone?

Any voter contemplating voting for Hilary owes it to themselves to listen to Ralph Nader's radio show on NPR from Saturday June 15th. This is NOT the candidate you might think she is and it deserves some due diligence to see what she is really all about.

I find it amazing how the "small government", "cut taxes and spending" conservatives always praise Ronald Reagan, who is best known for his massive spending increases and raising taxes 18 times.

Why would anyone care how Obama and Clinton stack up? This is the most pointless poll ever- the two are not going to run opposed to each other, again.

Additionally, for those who keep mentioning various candidates doing 'complete 360s'; I think you might mean '180s' considering a 360 would take them right back to where they are today. :P

I'm sure the same poll taken on Obama back in 2008 would have said the same thing. But he has shown there was nothing in that empty suit. Hillary Clinton has the same empty pants suit. There is NOTHING in her history of accomplishments that should lead ANYBODY to believe she would be any better than Obama. These polls are a sham by the LSM to foist yet another incompetent Democrat on this country.

There needs to be a reply button for specific posts.... but, to "Wake Up People! Many Rivers to cross" That is the stupidest reason to vote for someone EVER. Are you a party sheep? If Adolf Hitler were alive and a Democrat, would you vote for him just because of his party?

We the sheeple should vote for the best PERSON....... NOT THE PARTY

Clinton will do just as much, if not more damage to America, as Obama. The entire Democratic Party is subversive to America.

Give an example of anytime republicans did any good for Americans. 2 unpaid for wars tax cut for the rich unpaid for no help for returning veterans they are the most dispicable excuse for humans.

Hitler would be a republican. But I would vote for ANYONE with a D after watching the way the Republican Party has obstructed this POTUS. He has been treated worse than any POTUS in history. So yes I'll say it again. I'd vote for Lucifer as long as he was as he was a Democrat. The GOP has had years to at least pretend to be patriotic, yet they are worse than the Taliban and Al Queda combined.

    Just Asking mentions "due diligence"?

I wouldn't expect people to figure it out now. I read both of Obama's books before 2008 and they told me all I needed to know about him. Hillary is just another Saul Ailensky disciple. Beware....things could even get worse. If that's possible.

This poll only proves that a majority of Americans are clueless fools who know nothing about good governance. Obama and Clinton are both ignorant, damaging libs. A Clinton Presidency will only finish the job Obama started in taking America down the toilet. Please tell me one significan accomplishment Hillary Clinton had in her roles as First Lady, carpetbagger Senator from NY or Secretary of State? Answer: She accomplished nothing.

The first round of Bush Tax Cuts were exclusively for the rich and big business. The second round of Bush Tax Cuts including more cuts for the rich and big business, and a token cut for the middle class. Someone making around $40,000 per year saw a whopping $20 tax cut. For some people making slightly higher incomes, they actually saw a tax increases because of the AMT, the marriage tax, and an actual rate increase.

The administration had justified the middle class tax increase by arguing that people could recoup the tax increase by taking advantage of new deductions that encouraged investments. I don't know many families of four, with an income in the 50-75K range that can afford to invest at the levels that the deductions required. So, many middle class families actually saw a net tax increase. Only fuzzy math calls it tax cut. People live paycheck to paycheck, and simply cannot afford to set aside some 10% of their gross income in investments.

  25. Hillary Clinton: DUMB Choice

I voted for Obama because I thought it would be cool to have the first black President. Now I see what a mistake that was. I won't be voting for Hillary Clinton just to elect the first woman. I learned my lesson. Qualifications do matter. A track record of non-accomplishments on Clinton's part should be a red flag to any intelligent voter.
