CNN/ORC Poll: Clinton tops Obama on every issue

What do you want to ask Hillary Clinton? Send your questions here and CNN Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour might ask it during CNN's town hall meeting with Clinton at 5 p.m. ET Tuesday at the Newseum in Washington.

Washington (CNN) - If Hillary Clinton is elected president in 2016, most Americans say they think she will do a good job handling crucial domestic and international issues, according to a new national poll.

And the CNN/ORC International survey released Monday also indicates that the former secretary of state scores much higher than President Barack Obama on every issue tested.

"That's helpful to her chances of actually getting elected if it holds up through 2016," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "It suggests that the President's low marks on most issues might not drag Clinton down if she runs for the White House again."

How enthusiastic are Democrats about Clinton as nominee?

Clinton served as America's top diplomat during Obama's first four years in office, so it may not be surprising that some of her best marks in the poll come on overseas issues: 63% say she would do a good job on foreign policy and 61% say the same on terrorism.

But it is notable that 63% say she'd do a good job handling the economy, and 57% believe she'd handle health care well.

Now compare those to Obama's latest job approval ratings on those same issues.

Just 38% questioned in the CNN poll say that they approve of how the President's handling the economy. That's 25 percentage points lower than the number who think Clinton would do a good job on the economy. Only 40% approve of Obama's foreign policy, 23 points lower than Clinton.

The same is true on other issues that have made headlines recently, including gun policy, the environment, and immigration.

"In fact, a majority think Clinton would do a good job on all nine issues tested in the poll; Obama's current job approval rating never breaks 50% on any of those same nine issues. None of this means that Clinton is a lock for the White House, but it is an enviable position for any candidate to be in," adds Holland.

The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International May 29-June 1, before the rollout of Clinton's new memoir, "Hard Choices." In the survey, 1,003 adults nationwide were questioned by telephone. The poll's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

CNN Political Editor Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

She left our Ambassador and three other Americans to die in Libya, stood by while the Administration abandoned Iraq, has restarted the cold war with Soviet Union, and she gets higher marks than Obama on foreign policy? You Democrats can't do any better? Really?

Personally, given how things have worked out, I'm relieved we were lucky enough to get Obama and not Hillary over the past 4 years. Here's looking at you, Elizabeth Warren.

So, from about $1 Trillion to about $2.6 Trillion, give or take a few billion. That's an increase of roughly $1.6 Trillion in eight years while bringing the Berlin Wall down. Are you saying that the $7 Trillion BHO has added in less than six years is less compelling and urgent?
    ---------–
Reagan tripled the national debt. In today's numbers that would mean going from 10 trillion to 30 trillion. Reagan increased the annual deficit by a factor of ten, which is what drove up the debt so quickly.

What new spending has Pres. Obama instituted? Spending has increased by less than 1.5% per year, on average, during Pres. Obama's administration. And just what was so urgent and compelling about a "Star Wars" missile defense system that never worked? What was so urgent about building more weapons of war to counter a country that already had us outnumbered by an average of 10 to 1 in almost every major category.

The Soviets had ten times more tanks, jets, you-name-its. Do you know what caused the U.S.S.R. to collapse? They spent themselves into oblivion by buying military hardware.

    --

We have not had 10000% increase in inflation since the 1980s. Your numbers are way off Rudy. Face it Obama has added more debt then Regan did. If nothing is done soon, Obama will have more debt added then all others who came before him.

Republicans are flat out liars when it comes to reducing the federal deficit. Smell to high heaven.

Bush: 8 straight years of record deficits, supported by 100% (ALL OF YOU LIARS), 8 straight years you said "deficits are good under Bush, lets raise them".

Obama: 2014 – the LARGEST deficit reduction in history.

Takes brains to win an election. Forbes: The 10 least educated states voted for Romey. 9 of the 10 highest educated states voted for Obama.

Simply put: Intelligent Americans vote for the progressive Democrats! Good times for America.

Nope, we have not had 10000% increase in inflation since the 1980s. Your numbers are made up, Patrick. Face it, I never said anything of the kind.

Face it, their has been very little new spending under Pres. Obama. This is the hand that he was dealt. You're comparing apples to oranges. By your logic, Bush was bad, too. The annual deficit has dropped from $1.5 trillion when Obama took office to a project $500 billion next year.

If you do not like the fact that the deficit isn't zero, blame Bush and the Republicans. It was their economic policies that brought us to this point. "Deficits don't matter." Remember that? Many economists predicted annual deficits within a decade when the cuts were first enacted, including Bush's own advisor .

She should have followed Al Gore as president and we would have escaped 13 years of misery. The country would be at what is today unimaginable heights and head towards a bright positive future that is now impossible to realize.

The charismatic Great Hope has failed us. Time to find a new one to give us more utterly unrealistic expectations. Hillary Clinton does get some credit, though, for getting at least a little bit of actual experience before trying it again.

How about a 10.5 trillion $ increase in the stock market? Only Bill Clinton with 13 trillion.......(compare these 2 with the 3 trillion $ loss, combined during the Bush regimes).....Obama/Clinton up 23.5 trillion, Bush 41/Bush 43 down 3 trillion or a net difference of 26.5 trillion or 50% more than the entire federal deficit?..........so to answer que hubo,,,,,only Bill Clinton tops Obama on this one, and no Republican president in history has seen a 2 trillion $ increase during his term...Reagan was closest with a 1.7 trillion $ increase......

I don't see how Secreatary of State Clinton would do a better job than President Obama. I don't see how she would improve on our current administration.

Mainstream media is such a joke. It was Hillary Clinton that pointed that out when she said that Americans do not receive credible news anymore in a remark she made a few months back. She is political garbage. Like the system she represents.

Actually this is Hillary getting her liberal media plug to help build her PR. Which as it turns out is hilarious, because she is having her perceived capabilities compared to Obama's imaginary capabilities, and since it is some really foolish people making up the guesswork, it is even more hilarious. Then the fact that she has a higher score is just the icing on the cake. I guess since our politicians are resigning us to the incapable hands of corporations and allow greed and ignorance to dictate the course. We will continue to flounder and fail, I could thank the liberal mindset that seems to at the core of the worst of the problems, but then I would be leaving out the republicans. They as it turns out are just as guilty of damn near the exact same garbage that has instilled itself as part of American politics. Neither party should be allowed to occupy the oval office. We need not only a outsider, but a head hunter would be just the coach for midterms.

It could be worse GOP, and it may be......just consider this.......Hillary easily wins.......a reasonably high likelihood........people like it that we no longer start wars, or beat our chest to show how tough we are.........after 8 years, people like having a woman president so elect Chelsea, and after 8 years of Chelsea, Obama's oldest daughter decides to take the reigns....so let's see that puts us out to 2040 if they each serve for 8 years.......and all because, the old man, white GOP male protestant party bosses will not promote a woman for our highest office...did I ruin your day?

And once again we see how so many of the electorate can be deceived and beguiled by Hillary. Unless, of course, CNN/ORC only bothered to ask Democratic voters.

We would have had budget surpluses and 4700 young men and women in the armed forces would be alive today. Bin Laden would have been the target and not Saddam Hussein. The housing market would not have collapsed because the people who lost homes would not have been out of jobs and would have continued to own their homes. If Republican scare tactics keep a Democrat out of the White House in 2016 and they continue to control all or part of Congress, expect more misery....Democrats always have to clean up Republican economic messes because they only care about the rich.
