Bill Clinton on Hillary's 2016 decision: 'I’m a bit player'

Washington (CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton is not known for being detached from big decisions. But when it comes to whether his wife will run for the White House in 2016, the former president said he would play a small role.

"Like I said, I'm a bit player," Bill Clinton told the Denver Post on Monday, "and whatever she wants to do is fine with me."

Hillary Clinton, who is in the middle of her nationwide book tour, is admittedly considering a run at the presidency and has said that she will likely announce her decision in 2015.

Bill Clinton, who successfully ran for president in 1992 and then reelection in 1996, is regularly asked about the prospect of moving back into the White House. Earlier this month he said, "I don’t think about it, but I’m for whatever Hillary wants."

Despite Bill Clinton saying he would be a non-factor in the decision, Hillary Clinton writes in her new memoir "Hard Choices” that she and her husband took a long walk and talked about the prospect of another presidential race.

"Recently, Bill and I took another of our long walks, this time with our three dogs, near our home," Clinton wrote in the book's final passage. "We both know I have a big decision in front of me."

She added, "But for this day, at least, I just wanted to stretch my legs and enjoy the spring. Everywhere around me there was new life. There have been too few quiet moments like this over the years. And I want to savor them. The time for another hard choice will come soon enough."

Bill Clinton has been critical of the length of presidential campaigning and regularly mentions that when he first ran for president, he didn't declare until 13 months before the general election.

Late in 2013, Bill Clinton told CNN Español Anchor Juan Carlos López that he didn't know whether Clinton would run in 2016, but did add that he thinks and Hillary Clinton believes that "the country should spend at least another year working very hard on the problems we have."

That said, Hillary Clinton's book tour has looked a lot like a campaign and she has been more open to answering questions about 2016. She has also weighed in on the prospect of moving back into the White House and what Bill Clinton would be called if she were to win in 2016.

"If that were to ever come to pass," Hillary Clinton told ABC about the title "First Mate, "that is a pretty good title."

The Clintons are in Colorado for their annual Clinton Global Initiative America conference and Bill Clinton sat down with the Denver newspaper after touring a touring a health center project aimed at helping homeless and vulnerable populations.

He is the entire reason she even is contemplating running. She wouldn't want it, unless he pressured her to run.

It is an article to get conservative readers spun up. They probably think it is some kind of joke that a man would be First Mate or whatever. Besides, they need some gossip or innuendo to get some new conspiracy theories going.

How do you figure that?? For months now all I've heard from the right is how she stayed with him after the scandal to further her political career. Now he's making the decision? Hillary isn't a Stepford wife, I doubt this is anyone's decision except hers.

That said, she has also been dodging political lightening bolts hurled from the right (and, yes, the left as well) with remarkable speed. Add in a media gone to hell, and well, she's fared rather well up to this point. What is it now? Six, maybe seven potential wannabees from the right already sharpening their nails 24/7 re: Hillary? Not to mention Reince Preibus (the little boy who plays at being king-maker).

Yeah. She's held up well. More so than the wannabees who've yet to give us much in future plans for America, so centered on Hillary as they have been. Remarkable that this one woman can so rile up that crowd of infants and still manage to outshine them all.

If she runs and wins, hopefully he'll be on his best behavior. I said if because nothing is a given.

Ask Mitt, I keep remembering him in the final debate constantly saying, "When I'm President."

  10. just asking

as every new day brings another obama disaster, and along with it lowere and lower poll numbers for the campaign fund raiser in chief and ultimate decimation come november, the new republican control of the senate along with republican control of the house will be something that progressive hillary clinton will not not to deal with.

hillary clinton will not run in 2016 because of this alon gwith her health problems and new grand child. hillary, bill and chelsea have a major league gravy train going right now that is making them filthy rich multi-millionaires. she'd be insane to give all that up at her age. unless of course the blind lust for power just makes it too irresistable.

Amazing. There's been 10 times more attention payed to her running, his involvement, her missteps with the press or whether she's able to hold office and be Grandmother, than was ever paid to the mistakes of Chaney, Rumsfeld, or any republican banging the drums of war where no (Weapons Of Mass Destruction), were ever present. Lets review the lives lost and the wealth squandered during this time and reflect on the motives of the media in all of this. Seems there's much intent on swaying and whipsawing of the populace going on. Amazing.

Queue the resounding boos and hisses throughout MSM ad departments and editorial boards...

The MSM would have us locked in POTUS election mode 24/7 if they could. They're certainly trying...desperately desperately trying....because it's profitable but also because not a single one of them has the freekin brain power or journalistic integrity to come up with anything else to talk about during the 24-hour filth cycle despite myriad things being far more important....you know...like which airliner is going to disappear into miniature earthbound black hole next.

What has become of the Democratic party ? Is there a throne of ascendency ? That is the only reason that I could think of for Hillary to be the "heir apparent' !
The REASON I will NEVER vote for another Democrat is that NO ONE had the courage to tell Bill Clinton to step aside after LYING under oath and doing unspeakable things to a young intern in the Oval office and being impeached ... not a single democrat called for him to leave ... and instead a young girls life was ruined, to the point that she now lives in another country ... and then the country had to be dragged through that embarrassing Lewinsky scandal ... he should have RESIGNED !
it was the right thing to do !

Another lie. Polls have consistently shown her as the front runner hence all of these lynch mob articles about her on the Ticker.

"hillary clinton will not run in 2016 because of this alon gwith her health problems and new grand child."

Well, you're allowed your delusions I suppose. CNN is certainly trying their darndest to invoke some sort of saturation-desensitization reaction in the public by talking about her non-stop even if they have to invent the equivalent of journalistic vomit just to post another Ticker article about her.

Of course, that's partly because they desperately don't want to talk about the Pulaski Skyway investigation that's getting underway. Keep the eyes off Christie and the eyes on the "squirrels" for now and maybe it'll all blow over and you'll get your horse race, eh CNN?

Even Rush back-tracked on that whopper, after gossiping what he heard from Rove who read it in National Enquirer.
Seeing what conservatives use as "research", is it any wonder they deny science as well?
Maybe you should ask to see her birth certificate. That worked so well against Obama.
