Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney escalate 'unseemly' tit-for-tat

Washington (CNN) – Dick Cheney finds it funny that Bill Clinton thinks he is "unseemly."

The former vice president was asked by a local paper on Wednesday about Clinton calling him "unseemly" for his recent attacks on President Barack Obama. Cheney stepped up the tit-for-tat by needling Clinton for some of his more famous improprieties.

"If there’s somebody who knows something about unseemly, it’s Bill Clinton," Cheney told The Billings Gazette with a laugh.

Earlier this week, Bill Clinton was asked about the fact that Dick Cheney, the vice president during the start of the Iraq war, was attacking Obama for not doing more to stop an Islamists resurgence in Iraq.

"I believe if they [the Bush administration, Cheney] hadn't gone to war in Iraq none of this would be happening," Clinton said during an interview with NBC's David Gregory. "Mr. Cheney has been incredibly adroit for the last six years or so, attacking the administration for not doing an adequate job of cleaning up the mess that he made and I think it is unseemly."

Cheney, who as vice president was a primary player in the Bush administration's invasion of Iraq, has been very vocal about his criticism of Obama's handling of the resurgence of Islamists in the country.

Earlier this month, the Cheney used a Wall Street Journal opinion editorial to write that "rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many."

Cheney went on to say that by Obama pulling out of Iraq, he "abandoned" the country "and we are watching American defeat snatched from the jaws of victory."

Democrats have seized on the comments, primarily because it was the Bush administration who negotiated the withdrawal of troops from Iraq by the end of 2011, not Obama.

"Of all the former Bush administration officials who have emerged in the last few days to blame the deteriorating situation in Iraq on Barack Obama, one might think Cheney would be among the last," wrote Paul Waldman in a CNN opinion piece titled "Dick Cheney's amazing chutzpah on Iraq."

"Cheney was the war's chief propagandist, who told the American public more spectacular falsehoods than anyone, including Bush himself."

Cheney's comment to the local paper came during an energy trade show in his home state of Wyoming, where the former vice president continued his stepped up attacks on Obama during his remarks to the audience.

"Now we’re in a situation where the administration has chosen in effect not to recognize the extent of the problem," Cheney said.

Dick Cheney's "unseemly" remarks open up wounds that are still fresh in our memories. He needs to be incarcerated for war crimes and intentionally misleading the country to war.

Dick Cheney should disclose to the American people how many millions of dollars he made through Halliburton, by sending young Americans to die in Iraq.

correct. then why has obama been parading aroubd the country for years proclaiming he ended the war in iraq? just another obama lie in the very, very long list of obama lies at this point.

btw, obama was handed a democratic country holding elections. all he had to do was negotiate a status of forces agreement to ensure the stability of iraq going forward. but again, he failed, miserably. and now iraq is under seige by terrorists and obama twiddles his thumbs and goes to campaign fund raisers.

obama has been an unmitigated disaster in so many ways i am starting to lose count.

At least Clinton's "unseemliness" didn't result in the deaths of four thousand troops, the maiming and mentally damaging of tens of thousands more, and untold hundreds of thousands of brown people killed, maimed and displaced – IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY NO LESS – on HIS ORDERS in order to line HIS OWN POCKET!

Two Vietnam War Draft Dodgers. One took EIGHT Deferments(including pregnancy for Lil Lynn) to stay out. One took Military Action in Yugoslavia & brought about stability. One wanted Permanent Military Bases in the Mid East after the Saudis asked America to Go Away. Also a good Foothold for the Oil Business.
All of this looks like COLONIALISM to the folks in Mid East(They've seen that Movie before-Ottoman Empire).

Christ almighty! Why doesn't this piece of human garbage drop dead.
This is the war criminal who sent 5,000 plus American soldiers to their deaths by lying about WMDs. Liberators my behind. Mission accomplished? Yeah, right!
He and his puppet, shrub #43, have destabilized the Middle East for decades to come. I won't say centuries because climate change will take care of destroying the Earth and everyone on in before too long. Something else these cretins don't believe in.
Go hunting. See if the next time you shoot somebody by mistake and drunk you go to jail where you belong.

The Obama Administration was way too nice not prosecuting the Bush Administration for leading the country into war based on lies and falsehoods. There is no way they would have not prosecuted the Obama admin. if the tides were turned. This guy is a loser and it is too bad that even after getting a new heart, he has managed to turn that one hard and dark too! He is so filled with bitterness, hatred and delusions he can't think straight.

LOL!!!! More evidence of the GOP/Teatroll congenital defect that prevents them from spotting the irony in what they say. The GOP/Teatrolls have spent the past 6+ years manufacturing the world's most epic object lesson proving that you cannot negotiate or compromise with an opposing party that uses radicalization as a means of entrenching itself in absolutist intransigence...refusing from the very beginning to negotiate or compromise whatsoever with Obama on almost anything whatsoever. Al-Maliki did the same. He did not want US forces in Iraq in that manner and refused to negotiate or compromise on it. He's now paying the price for his folly, to some extent, but this was really an inevitable situation no matter what. We'd be watching American soldiers dying right now if we had kept a large force there, because it's mere presence would not have stopped ISIS from attempting this.

Isn't there another Batman movie in the works? Darth Cheney could easily play 'The Penquin' villian role.

Just Saying, do you even know what a Status of Forces Agreement is? You make it sound like its on the level of negotiating the car salesman to throw in a few floor mats. Obama implemented the agreement that Bush's administration signed, and the idea in 2011 that we would be staying longer in Iraq was political suicide for any politician. Cheney is pi$$ed because the house of cards he erected and the government he put in charge made this situation possible, so he does the conservative thing and blames someone else.

THANK YOU Dick Cheney. You are keeping the Iraq War Fiasco(2003 Invasion & Attempted Occupation) Alive & Well. The Bush Family would rather their Faux Pas would Go Away from the American Public Conscienceless(Jeb 2016).
We need to keep the WORST American Foreign Policy Mistake Front & Center, lest we lose the LESSON OF IRAQ too quickly. The Lessons of Vietnam lasted from 1975- 2003. Hopefully The Lessons of Iraq will last longer.

Why did Cheney and all the other neo-cons who wanted to go to war think only about a rosy situation? They failed to understand that remaking a government isn't done overnight. Did they not take note of the history of the modern state of Iraq and all the groups within the country? It certainly seems that way. Did the constitution take a few weeks to write? I think it was a few months and then years after that to be ratified by the states.

I think Obama did the best thing he could since there was not going to be a new Status of Forces agreement to cover our troops. If there was, then we could have stayed longer.

Yeah, gotta give to Dick Cheney! He knows how to give it right back to the lefties! Bill Clinton talking about "unseemly" is rather comical, as if getting BJs from his White House intern in the Oval Office as he conducts business on the phone is just another normal day in the office. hahahhahaha....

It's real simple. When Malaiki refused to sign a new agreement, Republicans were insisting that we stay in Iraq, anyway, agreement or no agreement. Pres. Obama didn't renege on the promise Bush made early in the war, which was that if the Iraqis ever asked us to leave, then we would. Like I said, it's real simple.

    Ask Cheney.

Past Presidents and vice-Presidents traditionally take a rather transparent and subliminal role in events regarding current administrations (unless asked). Not only is Cheney being stupid and confrontational, one would think an accused war criminal would simply be happy to vanish into his "undisclosed bunker" to live out his (tax payer funded) days not going on trial.

Why is it that Cheney, while accusing Obama of pulling out of Iraq too soon, failed to mention that Obama was merely honoring an agreement for troop withdrawal that was signed by Bush?

Dick should make like Bush and keep his mouth shut. He has done enough harm to the country and is fortunate he is not commenting from behind bars.
