Obama vows action to bolster economy

(CNN) - Echoing his 2014 “year of action” mantra, President Barack Obama delivered a clear economic message during his weekly address Saturday: I will take action to fight for the middle class into my own hands if Congress doesn’t act.

Citing his recent trip to Minneapolis, where he met with middle class families who struggled to recover from the financial crisis, Obama said he would be focusing on the economy in the upcoming week.

“I’m going to spend some time talking about these very choices in the week ahead,” the President said. “That’s because we know from our history that our economy doesn’t grow from the top-down, it grows from the middle-out.”

In referencing top-down economic growth, the President accused Republicans of being obstructionists by blocking the White House’s economic initiatives to bolster the middle class - such as raising the minimum wage and tackling student loan relief – in order to favor wealthy taxpayers.

“The point is, we could do so much more as a country – as a strong, tight-knit family – if Republicans in Congress were less interested in stacking the deck for those at the top, and more interested in growing the economy for everybody,” Obama said. “Let’s realize that we are stronger as a nation when we offer a fair shot to every American.”

The President argued that now is the time to take executive action to ensure that Republicans in Congress do not continue to “rig” the system against the middle class in the future.

“I’ll do my job,” Obama said. “And if it makes Republicans in Congress mad that I’m trying to help people out, they can join me, and we’ll do it together.”

In the interest of all the issues he cares so deeply about, Obama should step down and allow Joe Biden to run as an incumbent in 2016.

When Obama took office he had the house and the senate and he said he could fix the economy. We are now 5+ years into his QE plans with more debt and still the economy is screwed up. Don't blame the repubs since he had a chance but screwed it up. Democrats just face it your joker is much worse then our joker.. Proven by his hair brained ideas of green and climate change and his go it alone in the world as a cowboy since no country will trust him not even England.

Hollow words from a Lame Duck President.
    – ObamaCare has already wreaked havoc in the economy by raising the cost of employees and caused a push to part-time employment
    – even after the CBO put out a report stating that the minimum wage hike would cost jobs, Obama and Democrats still push for it
    – after investing millions on getting the USDA to train Mexican nationals on how to get free US Fiod stamps, not properly enforcing immigration laws, and using his executive powers to pass part of his DREAM Act has caused an huge increase of illegal immigrants flooding the border. Who does he expect to pay for it... The middle class...

    – even though it was proven that the Syria rebels are involved with terrorist groups, Obama still wants to give them $500 million

Obama has promised to fix the economy and has failed to follow through throughout his whole Presidency. Yet another bold faced lue from the Liar in Chief.

Dr. Brown when the rich have more money I have a job working for the rich. The government does not pay me the rich do. If I worked for a poor man I would starve to death. If you graduated from college you should have learned that from Micro Economics 101 not macro economics 101 . Evidently you must have been sleeping in the class. And I have a lot of college but no degree and have never been without a job in 40 years period.

It'd be great if his laptop's hard drive would crash like Lois Lerner's and we wouldn't have to hear his I'll Improve The Economy speech for the gazillionth time.

The house has passed 40 jobs bills that are stuck in the Senate (where Harry Reid refuses to let them come up for consideration, let alone a vote).

Obama is as dishonest on this issue as he is on any other issue: all lies, distortions and false premises.

I truly feel sorry for those who are stupid enough to believe a word he says.

Today: "Why can't I get these Republicans to work with me?"

Many people bash President Obama. But no matter what the republicans or some southern christian-racists says. President obama government is more nearer to the heart of Gods government in heaven than any president in the history of america. Sadly, political racists in southern brute politics yearn for the days of hitler. But, adolf hitler did not care for any american especially if you were a traitor. President andrew jackson typified an early american adolf hitler.but even then the white house got caught up in brute politics. James madison proved a noble democracy. But, the federal list bashed his political efforts. And the bushes politics were rotten and retarded. They
should of stayed in the oil business

BO is not serious about helping the economy. He is only making political points with his comments. His raise in taxes and regulation has stifled most of the economy. We should have retuned to a robust recovery but first quarter GDP was negative. Hash tag: epic failure on his part.

You want to improve the economy , then stop the discrepancy of wealth between CEO's and workers salary.

A healthy economy is a fare and just economy . The wage disparity is a cancer for a strong market.

All of the previous Presidents used this executive privilege, and if challenged was via impeachment.
Stop this political messing around if the president broke his oath of office constitutional powers by disobeying laws, that's impeachable.
There are three separate ( of powers) of our system of governance
    1) The House and senate, often politically divided
    2) The Executive branch = The white house/ President, he can even take a view on laws proposed not passed and issue an executive order on parts of what's proposed hut on Senate and house approved bills does not have line by line veto only the total bill.
The Judiciary, in theory they Interpret laws and can review constitutionality, not make legal decisions that make laws invalid. They can say we see this law as Unconstitional and refer any such law for amendment for revision by the house and senate ... to meet their constitution objections.
In recent cases the SCOTUS is now defining what are the interpretations of House and Senate policy an procedure guidelines.
Excuse me they don't do that its a legislative /rules matter RESERVED for the House and senate to settle.
Their decision on Recess appointments crosses boundaries the founding fathers never intended.
My god the House or Senate is in session when it is prepared with all parties therein to have a quorum of both sides, not some so called pro forma session that can pass nothing/ debate anything just screw/ stop the oppositions hope for a vote!!.
As with Citizens United this decision is a disgrace as will I guess the Hobby Lobby decision coming soon the four/ 5 corporate owners as an entity can over ride the individual desires of ( freedom of religion freedom of speech) of all their employees.... that's a sick joke.... but they are about to do it!!
    Regards,
    Hodgson

Only a fool believes this President knows anything about rebuilding an economy. He's great a social issues which appease to gays, illegal immigrants and climate change which uninformed millennials suck right up. Responsible Americans see right through his inexperience and lack of leadership skills. A true leader of the free world would have long ago rallied Democrats and Republicans of both houses of congress to solve our economic crisis first. Instead he chooses to vilify and mock the very resources who could make his Presidency a success.

@tommy g, if you still think that our twice elected President is the culprit guess who the fool is. He's guilty of some things but when the right wing bible thumping teaklans won't work with him and do everything they can against our country what's a man to do?
Have you been in a coma for the last 5.5 years?
Bin laden dead nothing, Iraqi war over nothing, recovery from what was our worst depression in 2008 nothing. Obama can cure all the ills of the world and these fools won't give him credit.
We will remember that this has been the worst right wing obstructionist congress in the history of the US.

Blaming republicans after 6 years in office and a democratic majority his first few years indicates a complete failure in leadership. His foreign policy is a disaster. Lets not forget scandal after scandal. This man is absolutely clueless. You liberals can keep blaming the GOP all you want but it was his policies that gave us a 2.9% drop in GDP. Imagine what his approval numbers would be like if the media treated him like they treated Bush. Oh' and just wait until all those additional o-care fees and taxes kick in. You people still have no idea what you voted for here.

Sorry Mr. President. but if one looks back for years the House has acted of various bills to help the middle-class, it is the Senate and Democratic leadership there and in the WH, that refused to acknowledge what was passed n the House and at least debate what is presented to the Senate. Finish with the Campaigning and finally take what you ere hired to do by the people of this country , show leadership .

@just saying, as usual completely ignorant to the facts and watching faux news and the fat oxycodone radio boy.
@ hector, what? The rich, even some billionaires agree, need to give more in taxes and not be allowed to stash it in foreign countries. Ask the twit why he waited until his behind whipping to re do his. Our middle class is disappearing faster than you can say Benghazi which is all the teaklans care about along with shutting down the government. Obamacare is working so they've left that alone for now. Another reason no more family values teaklans in the WH.
What part of mitchie's one term president and stop the country's forward movement doesn't get through to you righties?

SSDD..... The man has no clue about strong organization of a nation's well being and peace of mind. His whole focus is on taking class warfare to the natinonal level then trying to advance an agenda that is clearly born of personal feelings of ill will and malice. We are NOT generating positive momentum, good energy and strong growth because of his narrow minded approach to nurturing our nation. He's been too busy buddying around with Holder suing the states and doing everything within his power to create as much stress and burden on the states as he possibly can. He has shown no desire to act in a creative and unifying good spirited way and, as such, has alienated too many people who just wish for him to go away. Had he handled his tongue in a less caustic way and really had the right mindset to lead America, he would have tried harder to be a part of the solutions rather than part of the problem. There are so many things he could have done WITH big businesses to foster a unity and pride in America but he chose instead to use a forked tongue approach that far too many millions of America can now clearly see for what it is. Under his tenure too many people are stressed, anxiety ridden, agitated, numb, disengaged, hopeless and bitter. He does not eminate joy and love for America's glory and pride. He's caused global distrust, chaos and spite because of how he presents himself, his agenda, and America to the world. OUr national fabric has been torn to threads under his tenure. Discord, noise and anarchy bloomed because of him. He is like a weed that overtakes a beautiful garden. But someday the garden will bloom in vibrancy once again. The soils will return to a balanced Ph and the cleansing rains will come to wash away all the toxic ugliness he has brought to our land. And no matter your color, your income, your zip code or your faith, someday that feeling of pride and esteem will return. Someday I know a true leader will arise that loves America and doesn't try to divide people and attempt to turn them against each other just because of money or the 1040 tax form.

The man has had 5 and a half years to get out of the way and let the Economy grow. We have been in "Recovery" for 5 years. We have experienced an average of 1% per year real economic growth under Obama. We have experienced 2 quarters of NEGATIVE economic Growth in the past 5 quarters.

What is it he plans to do now that he couldn't do for the past 5.5 years?
