Monica Lewinsky: ‘I was a virgin to humiliation of that level’

(CNN) - After a self-imposed exile from the public eye, former White House intern Monica Lewinsky appeared on Tuesday in her first interview in a decade.

In a National Geographic documentary on the 1990s, Lewinsky, “the most humiliated woman in the world,” described the public shaming as former President Bill Clinton’s mistress as “alarming … frightening … confusing … and excruciating.”

“I was a virgin to humiliation of that level,” Lewinsky said in the documentary that was previewed on NBC's “Today Show.”

She described the day special prosecutor Kenneth Starr released his nearly 500-page report on Clinton as “one of the worst days of my life.”

Lewinsky’s interview is another step in her re-emergence and attempt to write her own narrative after humiliation by critics, comedy writers, paparazzi and the Clintons. In recently found documents from the Clinton White House, then-first lady Hillary Clinton described her as a “narcissistic looney toon.”

Lewinsky’s gradual re-entrance into the public eye was launched in May with a Vanity Fair biographic essay where she wrote, “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress. And move forward.”

In political extramarital affairs, the mistress rarely emerges unscathed

She wrote that she could no longer put her life on hold for another decade as Hillary Clinton contemplates a presidential bid.

“I turned 40 last year, and it is time to stop tiptoeing around my past—and other people’s futures,” she wrote.

In addition to her media appearances, her social life is becoming more public as well. She was also seen at a high-profile event in London on Monday evening, according to the Daily Mail.

Hillary Clinton mostly dismisses questions about Lewinsky. During a media rollout of her new book, “Hard Choices,” where she was asked about Lewinsky, Hillary Clinton said she had “moved on” and would “wish her well.”

She needs to stop pushing herself into the spotlight and just shut up and get on whit her life. Monica, we don't care anymore- and some of us never did.

She really needs to rethink her choice of words...

"Hard Choices", "Virgin to Humiliation", is she doing this on purpose?

Dear ms Monica was a plant, paid by the republican party to make a mess (and embarrass herself). She succeeded beyond their wildest dreams! She needs to disappear (forever) into the woodwork and grow up and get a life. What a jerk!

    ........*****************************************************NEWS FLASH*********************************************.....................
..i see people want to re-write history. It was with the advice of Linda Tripp that told Monica to keep the dress and the president of the United has sex with an Intern 30 years his junior and you want to blame her. She has nothing to do with the fact that he's married and the last time I checked this is still America and she has the right to speak when ever she feels the need to and if she can get paid for it the more the better as if any of you would refuse, save it. All these self righteous hypocrites on these sites

Apparently her handbag sales aren't earning what she expected. A virgin to humility? Welcome to life Monica.

Sorry Monica, but that's what happens when you have an affair with a married man. And when that guy is the President of the United States his enemies are going to drag you through the mud to get to him. You really should go crawl under a rock, but I guess times have changed. Just look how famous and idolized Kim and Paris got since making their notorious tapes. Guess maybe you think it's time you earn something for your starring role.

A bit strange. Newspeople, magazines, have sought her out for one reason or another and then she is blamed for their reporting, her 'coming out' now.

Oh why not, let's all throw away our clothes after sex, that makes sense. If you guys had one night in the sack with an SI Swimsuit model you'd probably never wash anything that touched her. Let's get real.

Monica, you are an empty suit. And you snake friend Linda Tripp is just a bit lower. Please both go away, you're both very boring.

She was offered and could have received MILLIONS OF DOLLARS over the years to do a tell all and/or to put the spotlight on and increase her 15 minutes of fame that she never wanted in the first place. But she sought no spotlight nor took any money, and pretty much ended up as the honorable one in comparison to the Clintons. Remember, she was a young, single, vulnerable intern at the time, enamored with/by a powerful president.

She stated she was a virgin to humiliation at THAT level. She did not commit adultery; she was a single worman. Most of any money she received at that time went to pay attorney fees. Yes, what she (and he) did was wrong, however, I know adults – and I'm not talking in the legal age sense – who would have crumbled under the pressure. She was in her mid-20's if memory serves. And to the poster who recognized how the female contingent turned on her, absolutely correct. And she was advised to save the dress by Linda Tripp. I didn't not care for Linda's tactics, but she was correct in her advice.

Liberals are still attacking this woman? From what I've read there are lots of others that haven't even spoken up yet.

Seems to me the person that should be most humiliated is Hillary, for demonizing other women when her husband was obviously lying to the public to save his hide. Hillary's only concern at that point was her own self interest and career. She was deathly afraid of going down with Bill. Even when all the facts became known, she never apologized to Lewisky or any of the numerous others for calling them liars. Hillary has no class and has a difficult time dealing with the truth. She is not the type of person we want in the WH. WE can't afford anymore liars after Obama

The humiliation must not faze her, I see no earthly reason for her to keep rearing her head. Someone has to be paying to keep her talking, you would think she would have reinvented herself quietly.. It is sad she is still allowing herself to be dragged through the mud, now she is doing the dragging.. What a waste of a life, and a sad day for women,

As much as I was angry at Bill for his lack of judgment, Monica was the one initiated the affair by pursuing the president. Furthermore, she already had been in an affair with a married teacher before she went to DC. There's something wrong with her. As a woman myself, I would have never ever kept a stained dress. At the very least I would have laundered it. Who keeps that kind of "souvenir"????

I guess it would be considered good marketing to have Monica Lewinsky be the spokesperson for Macanudo cigars.

The hackneyed and trite phrase “moved on” begs one to ask at least one more question of the Clintons. That question is, "How can anyone believe you?" Talk about a war on women. The Clinton's handling of Bill's numerous affairs and the planned destruction of his female playthings over the years is surpassed in the history of public office holders. I would not trust Hilary to take out the garbage; even though she has done that many times over in her life.
