Clinton weighs in on American political dynasties

(CNN) - The Clintons and the Bushes aren't the only families with an extended presence in American presidential politics.

That's a piece of history Hillary Clinton was sure to note in an interview published Tuesday in Germany's Der Spiegel when asked if America will turn into a monarchy if she or Jeb Bush were to win the presidency in 2016 (should either decide to run).

"We had two Roosevelts. We had two Adams," Clinton said, adding "It may be that certain families just have a sense of commitment or even a predisposition to want to be in politics."

"I ran for president, as you remember. I lost to somebody named Barack Obama, so I don't think there is any guarantee in American politics. My last name did not help me in the end," she said. "Our system is open to everyone. It is not a monarchy in which I wake up in the morning and abdicate in favor of my son."

If Bush ran and won in 2016, he would be the third Bush in the White House over the past three decades. And if Clinton ran and won the next election, she would be the second President Clinton in the White House in the past two decades, after her husband.

Sarah Palin applauds Clinton's 'boldness' in memoir

As Clinton weighs whether to launch a campaign for the White House in 2016, her name recognition - as former first lady, as well as secretary of state and senator - has been a double-edged sword.

Her global popularity helped during her time as America's top diplomat and will undoubtedly spur book sales as she continues the European leg of her book tour for "Hard Choices." But being such a longtime figure in U.S. politics might also prove to be a negative if she runs for president as Americans' trust in Washington falters.

Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, is also considering a run for the White House. Should he run, he has the support of his family - including his father, Bush 41, and his brother, Bush 43 - but his mother, Barbara Bush, has expressed reservations about having another Bush in the White House.

She said in an interview earlier this year "I think this is a great American country, and if we can't find more than two or three families to run for high office, that's silly."

Bush has joked about his mother's comments, but also discussed how his family name may hurt him as much as help him if he decides to run for the White House in 2016.

And a majority of Americans agree with Mrs. Bush. Sixty-nine percent of people questioned in a NBC News/WSJ poll conducted in April said there should be more diversity in families in the White House.

A dynasty? You? Get real. People in America don't have arkies and dynasty in the same sentence.

One political dynasty we'll never have to worry about is the Palin one. They're all dumber than rocks.

Sarah Palin has great influence in this country. If you want proof, another repub politician recently announced their 17 yr old daughter is pregnant. How "patriotic" (ie white-trashy)

If you look deeper into the family trees of our Presidents you would see that it is more than just Bush, Clinton, Roosevelt and Adams and Harrisons (they left this one out on the article). James Madison was second cousins with Zachary Taylor. Look even deeper and you'll find that FDR is related to a total of 11 Presidents, 5 by blood and 6 by marriage.

Obama and the far left Democrat Party is really, really poisoned the waters for Democrats and Hillary Clinton in 2014 & 2016. The country is being invaded as we still have very high unemployment even 5 years after the recession ended. Obama lied to the whole country as he and his party wrecked our healthcare system. His weakness has emboldened all the bad actors abroad. Who in their right mind would vote for Hillary (Obama V2.0)?!

    @ Rudy NYC:
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky's at 11%
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 10%
former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 10%
former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 10%.
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas at 8%
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at 8%
Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin at 8%
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is at 6%.

Rudy, if the RNC should ever do a "real" autopsy on itself in hopes of understanding a thing or two, Reince Preibus might contemplate your comment above. I say might, because that dude is overall useless.

Those numbers are nearly as pathetic as the candidates themselves are.

Wow – what an embarrassingly low bar to set. If Palin could end wars, recover an economy, get millions of people insured, kill terrorists, and prevent another 9/11 attack, she could run for president. Baiting a hook really is not going to cut it.

I guess all these people posting here on how great Palin is have forgotten a few things...........Wasilla was left 20 million in debt, women that had been raped had to pay for the examination kits, she received the much coveted Lie of the Year Award (as did MittWitt), she decided to quit being Gubner half way through her term, she makes a very lucrative living now just bumping her gums and saying little of nothing (the same thing Hillary gets raked over the coals for), has admitted that she and her family used to play hop scotch to Canada for free medical care, and yet........They see her as a Madonna, when what she really is is another Eva Peron. Ah, Saint Sarah...........patron saint of ignorance.

Meriam/Webster – : dynasty – a family of rulers who rule over a country for a long period of time; also : the period of time when a particular dynasty is in power.

Isn't that a description of the corporate families that run the country now, like Walmart family, Koch's, etc.?

Really guys Sarah needs to get back on those meds. This Lady (A term I use reluctantly) has never done much of anything. She's obtained wealth for being a lighting rod and was our first example of reality TV. How folks herein could take what she says seriously is a mystery to me.

History will never forgive Mccain for giving this woman any kind of relevance in american politics. I can appreciate an intelligent debate/argument but just throwing something out there and hoping that one sticks is just disrespectful to the american public. Sarah Palin is a disgrace to anything that is relevant.
