Palin calls for Obama's impeachment over border crisis

(CNN) – Sarah Palin said President Barack Obama's inaction over the escalating crisis on the southern border is grounds for impeachment.

The Republican firebrand wrote in a an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative website Breitbart that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

Calls for impeachment are coming from the President's harshest critics on the right and have intensified over the new immigration crisis. However, such a step is far-fetched, especially with Democrats currently in control of the Senate.

In the blistering op-ed, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee accuses Obama of intentionally allowing immigrants into the United States, hampering American job opportunities.

"President Obama’s rewarding of lawlessness, including his own, is the foundational problem here," she wrote.

"It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment."

Asked Wednesday about Palin’s comments, House Speaker John Boehner simply said, “I disagree.”

Pressed about others in his own House Republican conference that support impeachment, Boehner repeated, “I disagree.”

Republican opposition flares

Palin, who still remains popular and influential with tea party activists and others on the right,  is hardly the first conservative to accuse the President of unlawful activity.

But her pointed call for Obama’s impeachment adds a high-profile voice to the crowd of Republicans pushing for congressional action over what they view as an overreach of executive authority.

Key races to watch in 2014

Mike Huckabee also leveled heavy criticism at the commander in chief as a wave of illegal immigrants overwhelm federal facilities along the southern border.

In a statement Tuesday as Obama headed to Texas for a Democratic fundraising event, the former Arkansas governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate – who's mulling another bid in 2016 – slammed the President for not planning to visit the border during his trip to the Lone Star state.

"While tens of thousands of illegal immigrants storm across the border, the President is jetting off to Texas - but not to see first-hand the mess his policies have created, but to attend high-dollar dinners with the 'swells' and extract as much money as he can from some people who got rich on the very oil he despises," Huckabee said.

Huckabee did not call for Obama’s impeachment over the border crisis but has predicted in the past that Obama would be ousted from office because of the 2012 attack in Benghazi that left four Americans dead.

Political tensions in Texas

Palin and Huckabee's sharp language comes as Obama requested nearly $4 billion in emergency funds from Congress to better respond to the influx of immigrants illegally crossing the border into Texas.

The state's governor Rick Perry, who ran for president in 2012 and is considering launching another bid in 2016, refused to greet the President at the airport and instead called for a meeting to discuss the immigration crisis.

Perry later accepted the White House's invitation for the Republican governor to meet with Obama in Dallas.

Republicans and even some Democrats contend Obama isn't doing enough to quell a surge of undocumented immigrants from Central America.

Critics say the administration invited the problem by halting deportations of some young immigrants who came to the country illegally in past years.

CNN's Paul Steinhauser, Tom Cohen, and Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

This isn't news or new. It feels like Palin has been calling for removing Obama from office since the day he was sworn in.

Brass tacks: What Teatrolls really want is to impeach reality.

The fact is, the "browning" of the nation is the sand on which they've built their castle of reactionary tantrums. In a sort of Freudian, subconsciously symbolic way, the radicalized conservative lunatic fringe who thinks Obama has done anything impeachable perceive impeaching and destroying him as a way of allegorically achieving victory over the nation's ongoing demographic shifts, not to mention the means of mastering their race-resentment-fueled white fright.

I like the word ' foundational ' here. They've really worn out the word ' fundamental' lately. It's good to add a little variety to their right-wing nonsense.

Finding common ground and a compromise on immigration reform is difficult enough without Palin inflamming the passions of the extreme right.

Exactly. It reminds me of something I read less than a week after President Obama took office. Someone was complaining that he was doing a horrible job and that he was in over his head. And the MSM has parroted it ever since. How do you judge a person within a week of them taking office? That's when my eyes really opened. 😳

Yes, Republicans, listen to the crazy lady from Alaska. Impeach Obama. What could go wrong? Impeaching Bill Clinton on nonsense charges worked out so well. Why not try it again? Go for it. Oh, and don't worry about that two thirds majority vote in the Senate. I'm sure loads of Democrats will jump on your side. No problem.

Why can't we just secure the border. We can't afford to let millions of people here. We can't take care of our own... millions are unemployed and want jobs. How can we possibly bring more people in? The fast food president is detached.

I wish people would stop calling her Governor. She only served a half term at best before she quit. Seems like she gave up that right. As I recall, she said she quit because she could not do her job with all the law suits that were being filed against her. she bankrupted the town and didn't have a thing to show for it and was mired in scandal.”

This from the woman who said she could see Russia from her back yard! This from the woman who can't even raise her own children properly. This from the woman who came a heart-beat away from the Presidency! Thank God McCain picked her, otherwise we would have bombed Iran, Russia, Syria, Palestine among a host of others. Then again John McCain's claim to fame is being shot down by a Third-World Country!
