Palin calls for Obama's impeachment over border crisis

(CNN) – Sarah Palin said President Barack Obama's inaction over the escalating crisis on the southern border is grounds for impeachment.

The Republican firebrand wrote in a an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative website Breitbart that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

Calls for impeachment are coming from the President's harshest critics on the right and have intensified over the new immigration crisis. However, such a step is far-fetched, especially with Democrats currently in control of the Senate.

In the blistering op-ed, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee accuses Obama of intentionally allowing immigrants into the United States, hampering American job opportunities.

"President Obama’s rewarding of lawlessness, including his own, is the foundational problem here," she wrote.

"It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment."

Asked Wednesday about Palin’s comments, House Speaker John Boehner simply said, “I disagree.”

Pressed about others in his own House Republican conference that support impeachment, Boehner repeated, “I disagree.”

Republican opposition flares

Palin, who still remains popular and influential with tea party activists and others on the right,  is hardly the first conservative to accuse the President of unlawful activity.

But her pointed call for Obama’s impeachment adds a high-profile voice to the crowd of Republicans pushing for congressional action over what they view as an overreach of executive authority.

Key races to watch in 2014

Mike Huckabee also leveled heavy criticism at the commander in chief as a wave of illegal immigrants overwhelm federal facilities along the southern border.

In a statement Tuesday as Obama headed to Texas for a Democratic fundraising event, the former Arkansas governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate – who's mulling another bid in 2016 – slammed the President for not planning to visit the border during his trip to the Lone Star state.

"While tens of thousands of illegal immigrants storm across the border, the President is jetting off to Texas - but not to see first-hand the mess his policies have created, but to attend high-dollar dinners with the 'swells' and extract as much money as he can from some people who got rich on the very oil he despises," Huckabee said.

Huckabee did not call for Obama’s impeachment over the border crisis but has predicted in the past that Obama would be ousted from office because of the 2012 attack in Benghazi that left four Americans dead.

Political tensions in Texas

Palin and Huckabee's sharp language comes as Obama requested nearly $4 billion in emergency funds from Congress to better respond to the influx of immigrants illegally crossing the border into Texas.

The state's governor Rick Perry, who ran for president in 2012 and is considering launching another bid in 2016, refused to greet the President at the airport and instead called for a meeting to discuss the immigration crisis.

Perry later accepted the White House's invitation for the Republican governor to meet with Obama in Dallas.

Republicans and even some Democrats contend Obama isn't doing enough to quell a surge of undocumented immigrants from Central America.

Critics say the administration invited the problem by halting deportations of some young immigrants who came to the country illegally in past years.

CNN's Paul Steinhauser, Tom Cohen, and Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

So, let's get this straight... the Republicans want to sue Obama for taking executive actions, and impeach him because he's not taking enough of them? That's the repubs for ya.

There are 11 million immigrants here....did they all come during the Obama administration. Hell No! Why aren't you protesting against the number of Asian, Jewish, Russian, and Canadian immigrants that are entering the USA illegally?

I heard Palin has lined up the next job that she's going to quit ... going to try to be on The View. I thought their average IQ couldn't drop any lower, but it has. I thought the show couldn't get any more shrill, bitter, and angry- but it has.

Doesn't Palin realize she's irrelevant? I honestly don't believe she understand what it means to impeach and that the trial before the Senate is for "high crimes and misdemeanors" - not a governmental policy with which she disagrees (read: doesn't understand). My G-d, thanks a lot McCain for digging her up like the dead meat she is.

Snooki Palin will say "Send money to impeach President Obama" next. Rafael Cruz took money with both hands to defund Obamacare. Bumpkin wingnuts gave him a standing ovation when he ran to Texas with the money. They never learn.

Obama knows never to argue with a stupid person. She will drag you down to her level then beat you with experience. I curse John McCain for introducing her to the lower 48.

I am not a Republican but I say impeachment is justified. The President runs the country like he is a Czar and fools all the fools who agree with him.

It amazes me to the many liberal failures in life making negative comments about Sarah Palin and about her intelligence. Most of those commenting have never and will never achieve even 10% of what Sarah Palin has achieved. Elected Mayor of a nice town and Governor of the largest state in the USA, President of the Oil and Gas Association, Vice Presidential candidate, TV commentator, and had her own national TV program. She is also a successful author whose books vastly out sold that of Hillary Clinton. She is paid more for one speech than most of the liberal slanderers commenting here make in a year. Yet these losers expect their nasty comments to mean something to intelligent people.

Send them to Alaska! Since their population is low and that would give Palin something to do.

I do want this president impeached because I believe he has broken the law, abused his authority and honestly shown that he was never equipped to handle the job. Now before everyone begins to call me a Republican nut job, I am a Democrat. I honestly gave this man a fighting chance. The health care law is a complete failure and hurting our ability to treat people who need care. I support immigrants making our great nation a home but I do not support breaking the law to do it. I think he is just waiting to get out of office at this point. Whether we want to admit it or not he is spending an awful lot of time in leisure activities rather than taking care of tough issues. As far as issues on gay rights, I think he believes what serves him and nothing makes me angrier than those wealthy people who pretend to support the community bu just needs to bump up their numbers. My friends, we have been had. The president should be impeached for his lack of ability and his overreach of powers. It's the right thing.

This isn't that radical of an idea. Obama won't enforce the law – any law – as long as it favors him politically. And for you 2 digit IQ dweebs who can't get the idea through your skulls that illegals are exactly that – ILLEGAL – they are. If you don't like the law, change the law. But it is what it is – and they're ILLEGAL. Obama won't enforce the law because he sees it as politically advantageous. He has skirted the law at every turn. Get rid of the worst President in the last 50 years. Impeach him. Now.

I should think you libs would give evn Nixon a break after the lawlessness of Barry Soterro.
