Gutierrez on Crossfire: 'Bothered' that Obama won't visit border, has 'serious questions' about border proposal

(CNN) – Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Illinois, a strong proponent of comprehensive immigration reform, said that he's disappointed in President Barack Obama's refusal to visit the southern U.S. border with Mexico.

"It does bother me,” he said on CNN’s “Crossfire” about Obama not visiting the border. “I wish the President of the United States were going down [to the border] and visiting the children and visiting the site tonight."

Booker, Paul take a selfie; talk criminal justice reform, technology and show tunes

(CNN) - An unlikely political duo, Sens. Rand Paul and Cory Booker have teamed up in a bid to reform the criminal justice system for non-violent offenders.

Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, and Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, discussed a wide range of topics Wednesday at a Politico “Playbook Cocktails” event in Washington.

Rare bipartisan approval of job training measure

Washington (CNN) - In a rare display of bipartisanship the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a job training bill on Wednesday. The vote was 415 -6.

The measure was already approved by the Senate and now goes to the White House for the President's signature.

Washington (CNN) - Rob Portman isn't shutting any doors to a potential 2016 run for the White House.

But the Republican senator from Ohio Wednesday seemed to down play any talk that he's actively considering a bid for his party's nomination.

Senate confirms Castro as HUD secretary

(CNN) - Mr. Castro is coming to Washington.

The Senate on Wednesday easily confirmed San Antonio, Texas Mayor Julian Castro to be the next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The vote was 71-26 in favor of confirmation.

Obama border proposal won't get speedy vote in House

(CNN) – House Republicans are making it clear there won't be a speedy vote on President Barack Obama's $3.7 billion emergency proposal to address the immigration crisis on the southern border.

They believe less money is needed and more should be done to strengthen enforcement along the border, which has experienced an unexpected surge of children from Central America. Many of them are unaccompanied.

2016 Watch: Christie back to N.H.

(CNN) - Chris Christie's headed back to New Hampshire, again.

The New Jersey governor and chairman of the Republican Governors Association will headline a fundraiser for the Granite State's GOP at the end of July. For the possible 2016 Republican presidential contender, it's the second straight month he'll visit New Hampshire, which holds the first primary in the race for the White House.

Obama offered pot during night out in Denver

(CNN) – "Do you want to hit this?" a man asked President Barack Obama in a bar in Denver Tuesday night. The president laughed but didn't indulge.

It wasn't the only time Obama was offered weed on his night out. That's apparently what happens in Colorado, which recently legalized recreational marijuana.
