Obama-Galifianakis interview nominated for Emmy

(CNN) - He won't be walking the red carpet next month, but President Barack Obama has already made his mark on this year's Emmy Awards.

The commander-in-chief's highly popular "Between Two Ferns" interview with comedian Zach Galifianakis earned an Emmy Award Nomination on Thursday in the Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program category.

No joke: Obama interviewed by Zach Galifianakis

The video currently has 22 million views, making it the most-watched "Between Two Ferns" clip on "Funny or Die."

The interview was part of a broader media strategy to reach out to and convince young Americans to sign up for Obamacare.

The President also appeared on "The Ellen Show" and ESPN as the March enrollment deadline approached.

According to the White House, traffic to HealthCare.gov increased by 40% the day after the interview was released, likely helping the administration accomplish its goal of 7 million enrollees by the end of March.

Many on the right criticized Obama for appearing on such a non-conventional outlet.

"The interview was a farce, and some believe it was demeaning,” decried popular Fox News host Bill O'Reilly, after its release.

“All I can tell you is, Abe Lincoln would not have done it,” added O’Reilly.

The web series is hardly a shoo-in come August, as it will face off against Bruno Mars' Super Bowl Halftime Show and Joel McHale's "The Soup," among others.

After winnning Liar of the Year in 2013 and worse President since WWII poll, why shouldn't Obama be nominated for an Entertainment award? He spends most of his time at celebrity events or out in Hollywood collecting money. He doesn't show much desire to actually govern the country as we see by his refusal to go to our southern border to witness the disaster he helped create.

And he knows that with certainty because he spoke to Abe himself. Sheeshh

I'd rather have the two ferns as President and Vice President at this point. They certainly couldn't do any worse and would be just as decisive as Obama.

They just rushed out for healthcare after that endorsement. Too bad they can't pay the premiums.

  11. ThinkAgain: If you don't like Congress, get rid of the repub/tea bag majority

@Donna: "He doesn't show much desire to actually govern the country as we see by his refusal to go to our southern border to witness the disaster he helped create."

How did he help create the humanitarian crisis? These refugees are mostly from Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador – do explain how President Obama caused the problems there that are so bad that parents are sending their children north to escape.

Not visiting the border is smart – the focus should remain on processing the refugees in accordance with our laws, not on a photo op.

But you'll never see it that way, Donna, because you are a hate-filled, ignorant, RWNJ shill.

Wow, all the trolls are out on this one. What a bunch of idiots, transcribing the latest zingers from fox and the RWNJ blog-o-sphere and radio talking heads.

You folks are pathetic! (and utterly, predictably wrong time after time after time)

And I suppose O'Reilly's televised interview where he harassed Obama with right wing conspiracy theories was investigative journalism? NOT.

Let's see, losing over a million and a half jobs the last two months if his administration, success? He turned around the worst depression in 70 years all by himself, amazing how seriously naive you are. He has fixed mess after mess your boy left, yup, failure, too funny indeed. So was George w, administration a success then, it is the opposite of what we have now? I only wish you understood how absolutely stupid you sound but then again, you listen to Palin, couldn't finish one term as a governor in our least populated state, yea, she's got qualifications alright, your just sad man, sad.

his best question to obama was 'what does it feel like to be the last black president?". oh, the truth in that! obama has poisoned the waters very well, and for all democrats as well.
