Perry to Texas reps: Don't approve Obama's border proposal

Washington (CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry said he won’t encourage his state’s congressional delegation to approve President Obama’s request for $3.7 billion in emergency funds to mitigate the border crisis.

“The President doesn't have to have this big amount of money,” Perry told Fox News Channel’s Brit Hume. “He could pick up the phone today, call the (Defense Department) and direct them to have the 1,000 National Guard troops on the border.”

After meeting with Perry last week in Texas, Obama said he had asked the Texas governor to use his influence to urge the Texas congressional delegation to support the emergency funding request.

Obama requested the money to deal with a growing number of undocumented children and youths arriving in the U.S. illegally and overwhelming federal facilities. While many have been released to family pending deportation hearings, others have been detained by authorities amid a growing backlog of pending cases.

Obama administration officials blame the influx on dire conditions in countries such as Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. Critics, however, say the administration invited the problem by halting deportations of some young immigrants who arrived illegally in past years.

Perry said the physical presence of the National Guard would send a clear, visual message to potential immigrants that U.S. borders are not wide open.

“They need to be right on the river,” he said. “They need to be there as a show of force, because that's the message that gets sent back very quickly to Central America.”

Perry also said he’d like to see changes to a 2008 law signed by then-President George W. Bush that requires deportation hearings before sending back children from countries that do not border the United States.

“That law needs to be changed,” Perry said. “I think members of Congress understand it needs to be changed, both Democrats and Republicans.”

How very open-minded. This ignorant bit of protoplasm with a memory that equal to that of a gnat, NOW suggests that Congress NOT fund the President's plan WITHOUT even hearing it yet???

After all that whining about "visit the border", this is how this twit responds?

He is not interested in solving the problem, only interested in scoring political points for a 2016 bid with the base.

And why doesn't HE call up the Texas National Guard, if that is all that is needed.

That stupid GOP skirt that, wanted to barter chickens for medical care is beginning to actually sound sane, compared to this clown.

The repubs have 3 ways of dealing with policies for the american people: cry cry cry, block block block, and blame blame blame. This the stragedy theyve deployed for past 5 years, and the american people have been eating it up, theyvr voted fox news as being credible for crying out loud. All i can say is this country is in alot of trouble.

Why stop at 1,000 National Guard troops? We all know that won't be enough, so let's deploy all the firepower at Fort Hood, and gun down anyone who decides to cross the border. A nice ole shoot-to-kill order ought to satisfy the Nugent wing of the GOP. Besides, we all know they don't want to work, since Sean Hannity has said so. While we're at it, let simply invade Mexico, and take the oil: that ought to pay for everythi-wait, didn't we try that already?

What a stupid, stupid man. Talks out of both sides of his mouth, and doesn't give a damn about what is going on, with those kids on the border, as long as he's appeasing his sick base and criticizing the pres. These people need some therapy because whatever demonic spirit they are riding behind, will keep them down and out in 11/2014-2016.. What a jerk.

Or, the chief executive of Texas, that would be Perry, could call in the National Guard. What is it with republicans and their failure to lead?

The 1000 National Guard troops will not help, because the problem is not that we are not catching the children. They are in custody. The problem is that a 2008 law, signed by Bush, requires the government to hold hearings before sending children from Central American countries (except Mexico) back to their countries. If Obama sends the children back without hearings, it would give the Republicans another reason to sue the president for not carrying out a law.

So Rick Perry wants more guns on the border, more national guard. Yup...these children crossing the border by themselves are sure dangerous. What is he going to do...shoot them?

Strange one this saddle burr.... He has never visited the border where the children are coming in, yet grips because Obama hasn't visited the border where the children are coming in. He demands that Obama "Do something" yet sabotages Obama's attempt to "Do something." Perry your sippy cup and a diaper change is ready.

most of central Americas problems is because of the united states .when ever a leader came along to reform the countries ,the ruling families would call them communist and talk to their friends in Washington and the corporate world .to take them out

There's a group of people I'd love to hear from on this subject, the native Americans. I'll bet they'd have opinions on securing a border. Ideas on counter terrorism. Maybe they'd shed some insight on a few dark areas, where very few in the European mindset has touched upon. They've been putting up with invaders since the 15th century.

"Fix this problem" the GOP screams, but their actions speak older than their words. They think obstructing a solution to the immigration issue will help them.
    Not so much.
We just see them for the twisted fools they are.

Rick Perry is very aware of the problems at the borders. He has been involved very much. Texans want to NOT get approval from Obama. We need to be independent and we offer levying a tax to secure our borders. These southern states need to band together and solve this issue since Obama doesn't care if everyone crosses the border. This is his mission to continue his destruction of america. We the people who love america must stand together! This corrupt administration has weakened our america. This must stop and people need to stop saying we need to process illegals into our country where we feed clothe and educate these criminals. Because they show up over the border it's their right to stay? NO> The humane thing is to secure our borders and cut off aid to central america and mexico and fly these illegals back to their countries. we have laws and they are being broken.

Doesn't it warm your heart to see how the "chri$tian", "pro-life" advocates in the GOP treat children in danger?

WWJD? Apparently, let the National Guard gun down Tweens as soon as they touch American soil! Who knew?

Hypocrisy: Thy name is, indeed, Republican!

I have the solution, dress the children in t-shirts emblazoned with ZYGOTE, stand back, and watch the baggers stampede to the border to welcome them home!

“They need to be right on the river,” he said. “They need to be there as a show of force, because that's the message that gets sent back very quickly to Central America.”

Yep, that would do it as they would all send tweets or texts back home on their $600 smart phones, "turn back"!

    Problem solved.

    You freakin, moronic simpleton!

Well well...... Why stop at a 1000 troops with families that don't mind their Soldiers living on the border. Why not 4000 troops and some bunkers with weapons loaded? Sounds insane right! That's what I think of Perry's comment...
