Germany sees an inattentive partner in Washington

(CNN) - Germany needs U.S. partnership on spying but must first see a change from Washington and “probably the most detached President [in] decades,” former German Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Monday.

There is “a level of mistrust that needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed from Washington,” Guttenberg told Amanpour in London.

I think they confuse subtle and effective for inattentive due to the previous 8 years of blatantly shouting challenges at the world that you are either with us or our enemy. I think though we have seen some masterful foreign policy putting people with a lot to lose in check without the shouting and challenges. I think there is also some misunderstanding about how much unilateral control the administration had over bastions of republican policy such as the patriot act, dhs, and nsa. I think there was also some misunderstandings on america's side due to our very close gwb buddy, england, having some very stark disagreements with the direction germany is espousing for the EU. Misunderstandings, not foul play, i like to hope.

"Detached" from a German? Oooooookay. They do have the best energy efficient system in the world though.
When you have been elected, twice, to do a job and the neighbors (teaklans in congress) don't want to play or be friendly it's very hard to do your job.

Germany – word of advice: Please DO NOT TRUST the Obama administration. WE the LEGAL People don't – he & his administration are ALL liars. Remember Obama won the "2013 Pinocchio Award" for a reason.

but obama and hillary clinton said they restored respect for the usa abroad? just another in the very long list of democrat lies. at this point they have lied to the american people about everything. we should demand to see pictures of bin laden's body at this point. way to many lies to believe anything these pathological liars say.

Yes, the American people know he is detached. He doesn't know what the job of being president is able and after 5.5 years, the American people have declared him incompetent. BTW, most Americans don't trust him either. He lied to the entire country about his scam healthcare "reform". Welcome to the Obama Victims Club Germany.
