First on CNN: After criticizing White House over unaccompanied minors, Martin O'Malley said don't send them to Maryland site

(CNN) - After his strong criticism of the Obama administration's plans to return thousands of young undocumented migrants back to Central America, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley asked a top White House official that the children not be sent to a site that was under consideration in his home state, sources familiar with the conversation said.

"He privately said 'please don't send these kids to Western Maryland,'" a Democratic source told CNN. The heated discussion between O'Malley and White House domestic policy adviser Cecilia Munoz occurred during a phone call late Friday evening, sources familiar with the conversation added.

Michele Bachmann's take on Elizabeth Warren: If I were Hillary, I'd be concerned

(CNN) – Should Hillary Clinton be concerned about a possible Elizabeth Warren candidacy in 2016?

Rep. Michele Bachmann believes so.

The Minnesota Republican, who ran for president in 2012, was responding to a question posed Tuesday by CNN’s Van Jones on “Crossfire” on whether Warren might be somebody who could pull away Republican votes in a presidential election.

Bachmann: Hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals 'invaded the U.S.' in last four months

(CNN) - As the Obama administration deals with a surge of unaccompanied and undocumented children from Central America cross the U.S. southern border, Rep. Michele Bachmann said Tuesday that immigrants have "invaded the United States" by the thousands since the spring.

"Since April, 300,000 to 500,000 foreign nationals at their election have invaded the United States," the Minnesota Republican said on CNN's "Crossfire."

White House and Issa Battle over Obama political director

Washington (CNN) - Few Americans know the name David Simas. But the White House political adviser has become the latest flashpoint in the continuing battles between the White House and House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa.

Late last week, Simas was subpoenaed by Issa's committee to testify about his duties as the White House Director of Political Strategy. Issa is demanding to know whether Simas' activities are in violation of the Hatch Act, which bars most federal employees from engaging in partisan political activities.

Fundraising in Kentucky Senate race breaks records

(CNN) - It's a fundraising showdown in one of the nation's high stakes Senate contest this year.

Democratic challenger Alison Grimes' campaign announced Tuesday it brought in over $4 million in the past three months - the most a senate candidate in the state has raised during a quarter fundraising period - with $6.2 million cash on hand.

Senate GOP confident Congress will pass bipartisan border remedy

(CNN) - Senate Republicans expressed growing confidence Tuesday that Congress will approve bipartisan legislation aimed at resolving a what's being called a "humanitarian crisis" resulting from the surge of child immigrants from Central America at the southern border.

"It is actually possible to come behind a bipartisan agreement to deal with a big problem," an upbeat Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said about the proposal this week by Republican Sen. John Cornyn and Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar, both of Texas.

Pro-Clinton group touts war chest, heads to key progressive conference

(CNN) - The gang at Ready for Hillary shouldn't have any problems when it comes to gas money for their bus, which is on its way to the Netroots Nation conference in Detroit.

The pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC urging the former secretary of state to run for president announced Tuesday that it raised more than $2.5 million the past three months, adding 33,000 new donors in the second quarter. Since forming 18 months ago, Ready for Hillary says it's raised over $8.25 million and now has more than two million supporters.

Ben Carson group touts fundraising success

(CNN) – A super PAC supporting Ben Carson, a renowned neurosurgeon and a popular figure among conservatives, pulled in an impressive $3.3 million fundraising haul in the second quarter of this year.

The National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee said Tuesday its recent fundraising success brings the group's total to more than $7 million.

McLean, Virginia (CNN) - His car wasn't moving Tuesday, but President Barack Obama was gunning for Republicans.

After testing a car simulator at a research facility here - an experience he equated to stepping into "Knight Rider" - the President let loose on GOP lawmakers, saying his opponents were standing in the way of any legislative fixes to the country's problems.
