Protestors vent anger at 'alien invasion' of U.S. in 2-day nationwide protests

Washington (CNN) – They're mad as hell and don't want to take it anymore.

Amid the surge of unaccompanied immigrant children illegally crossing into the U.S. along the southern border, some Americans are venting their anger in the streets on Friday and Saturday, calling it an "alien invasion" of the U.S. and warning of a national security and "health and safety concern."

"It is a sad state of affairs for those kids," one protester said. "But it's not our job to take care of them."

Throngs of Americans are participating in a so-called "National Day of Protesting Against Immigration Reform, Amnesty & Border Surge."  An announcement lists events in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia over the two days.

On Friday in Kansas City, Missouri, protesters held aloft signs that read: "Stop Illegal Alien Invasion" and "Strengthen our Borders."

"They need to clean our country up and get back to the original version of what our country was," one man told a KMBC reporter. Elsewhere in the city, a woman said to a KCTV reporter: "We cannot be…babysitters of the world."

In Birmingham, Alabama, protesters decried "amnesty," as one of them warned about the dangers of allowing illegal immigrants into the U.S.

"Other countries seem to be able to close their borders, but we aren't," she told a WBMA reporter. "It's a national security [problem] and it's also a health and safety concern as well."

And in Rockwall, Texas – a Dallas suburb – the woman who said it's not America's job to care for the unaccompanied minors also told the WFAA reporter: "They need to be sent back to the countries they came from."

In a written announcement, organizers claimed the protests would amount to "the largest coordinated protest against all forms of amnesty, comprehensive immigration reform, and the government's failure to enforce immigration laws and secure our borders." There is no way to confirm the size and breadth of the protests.  While some protests will likely be large gatherings, many observed rallies appeared to have only a handful of protesters.  On its Facebook page, about 4,000 said they would be "going."

All of this amid the ongoing political debate over the humanitarian crisis. Most of the close to 60,000 children who've come to the U.S. since the beginning of this year are from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.  Many have fled violence, including rape, gang activity and drug wars.  The U.S. government has undertaken highly controversial efforts to place them in holding facilities across the country.

President Barack Obama seeks to reduce a backlog of cases overwhelming the immigration system by speeding up hearings to determine who stays and who goes.  He has asked Congress for $3.7 billion - an amount Republicans have blasted as excessive - in emergency funds to help deal with the crisis.

On Friday, the White House announced that Obama will meet with the leaders of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador next week to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, some focused on the plight of the children. Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colorado, said he sympathized with the nightmarish situations from which they fled and the lives they could have in the United States.

"Of any parent who would send their 7-, 8-, 10-year-old, how desperate they must be, and how dangerous it must be in terms of cartels and gang warfare, that they're sending their kids ahead to try to make a new life and try to get out of harm's way in our great country," Polis said in a Friday interview with WPTV.

When asked if he'd like to see some of the children in his district, Polis said: "I can tell you they are good kids.  They look like regular schoolkids - wanting to know what comes next, curious, excited about the adventure of it all. But at the same time you can imagine how hard it must be to be apart from your family."

Not everyone is buying that.

"Everybody's saying that they're all children. No, they're not," a woman protester told a KNXV reporter in Phoenix.

"Plus we don't know how many terrorists are coming over that border right now, either.  As a result, if we don't take action and close those borders, we are going to have many more incidents. Plus, the cost for supporting all these people."

That rascal Bush signed a law that everyone was OK with in 2008. Now the wingnuts are upset because the people coming to the border are children instead of fertilized eggs.

People protesting are waving American Flags instead of those from the counties we fought in World War II.

Where's the Pope on this? Surprisingly qjiet on this issue considering that Catholic restrictions on birth control have led to this crisis. Birth control is wrong according to the Catholic faith, but it appears that the church could care less about the results of overpopulation such as poverty leading to neglected children. Birth control is labeled as wrong, but poor unwed Hispanic mothers with three or more different baby daddies seems to be a Catholic virtue. All future aid the USA provides to these and any other countries needs to be tied to BIrth control measures. Think it is bad now, imagine what another 10 or 20 years of unbridled reproduction will bring. Of course the RWNJs holding these protests would disagree and just howl for a higher fence. SAVE A FETUS, STARVE THE CHILD remains their motto afterall.

So sad that some Americans are so far from the teachings of their religions, the traditional values of America, are now so selfish and so easily whipped up into hate. These idiots talk their petty "revolution" and make their silly threats while they are terrified by 10 year olds. If this is TEA Party America, one hopes it is short lived.

I totaly agree with first comment. Its NOT just from south of border that there is a INUNDATION of illegals comming here. And it IS a huge problem. American jobs.. Homes.. And medical care is suffering greatly. I see America in same condition as Israiel now with the gaza strip in future. With almost the same results.. And it WONT be that long in future unless its STOPPED NOW! Do YOU want a cartell drug war going on every day in YOUR BACK YARD?? If this is not stopped it will happen. Whats NOT being reported is the HUGE increase of crimes of theft. Breakins.. Essentialy anything not nailed to floor being STOLEN by the illegals as they cross the border. People being injured and killed by them to steal anything they can.. Law enforcement is being overwhelmed fast going from one call to another of residents having homes invaded by them.. Go look at reports yourself.. So yes. AMERICANS are getting fed up with it.. And its JUST STARTING TO SHOW THE PROBLEMS that are growing fast..

This is just a movement from Republican, because they know the end of their supremacy is close to die. I lived in Belize for about 10 years. When I arrived there, the hate and discrimination from black Belizean was horrible, today 20 years later the latino community is the most powerful when is about economic and politic. Now for more then 10 years I have seen republicans fighting again our community, the community that put roof on top of their house, my people that harvest the fruit and vegetable that they eat every single day. I am not going to die without seen their extinction.

This is a nation of laws, everyone is required to follow the law without exception. So it is a simple matter of accept ion the current law, changing it or enforcing, there is no confusion. We live in a democracy, let the citizens decide not a handful of politicians who have forgotten that leadership starts with serving the law abiding members of society.

I bet these folks call themselves 'christians.' wonder if they ever encountered the phrase, 'whatsoever you do unto the least of these, you do unto ME!' guess not. how shameful that, in a country of immigrants, these 'Americans' are being so cruel to children fleeing violence. and this country's voracious drug habit is what's fueling most of the violence they are fleeing.. bet these folks don't feel the least bit of responsibility toward these kids. disgusting! how low can these 'good christians' sink?

My wife is half Cherokee and one quarter Shawnee and she is sickened by these idiots who wrap themselves in the american flag and call themselves patriots...! This nation was built by immigrants legal and illegal. I'm of Irish descent and these very same arguments and accusations were used against us back in the early 1800's. The chinese were also treated as less than human but they earned their freedom and the right to be americans. Everyone is crying about our american heritage but look at it good and hard and you will see that this is our heritage, a nation of immigrants from all countries.
